Here before the title change and/or update. 😅 hehe Good movie

Cyber

SAME LMAO

Sarah✨️

The part when Grandma's soul enters the water makes me tear up every time, and I've seen this movie probably 50 times. I love the soundtrack too. I am a soundtrack junkie

DrA

You should react to 'A million Amelias - Skyebrows' MV. Context makes it better, but it's their best one yet.

Rachael

The singing voice of Moana's dad is Christopher Jackson, who played George Washington in "Hamilton!" One of my favorite and original movie musicals is "Across the Universe." It tells it's story using the music of The Beatles. I saw it in theaters 4 times! Not sure if you are a Beatles fan, but I think the way the film depicts some of the history of 1960s America is truly genius.

FaerieRose

Hairspray (2007), please.

Ms. Chuck Terry

Moana is a fabulous movie and I enjoyed watching it with you. 💚💚💚💚💚 In the spirit of exploration and group singing, I hope you check out the recent HomeFree and Seàn Dagher collab on “Northwest Passage” https://youtu.be/OdIiDu_8IP0 Dagher (Day grr) is best known for singing shanties on the Assassins Creed IV : Black Flag game. Stan Rogers iconic 1981 song “Northwest Passage” is not a shanty, but compares his journeys to pursue his singing career to the British explorers from the 1700’s and 1800’s trying to navigate a route by sail through Canada’s north. ⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️ This song is lovely because of the harmonies. And I promise, it’s not sad. Somber, but not sad. It’s been a while since you reacted to HomeFree. Their Challenge the Sea album is all NAUTICALLY inspired. And includes a full version of “Santiana” from their Sea Shanty medley. Really easy to enjoy. You’re welcome!!! 😉 😆

Lisa - Marie

Would love little mermaid reaction - there are 2 movies and live action movie if not seen any of them

Ms. Chuck Terry

Have you seen the Cirque du Soleil show “Love”? It’s a joyous use of Beatles music.

Emonty

Hands down one of my favorite Disney movies of all time

MortalCity

Auliʻi Cravalho was *14* when she was cast as Moana, just an insanely talented kid. Not sure where you would have heard her voice before but she's done a few things that would have been on Disney Channel that your boys might have been watching? She also was in a couple episodes of 'The Mighty Nein' recently if you watched that.

Regarding the Coconut question, they grow with a green husk around them, the coconuts we normally can buy in stores has had the green husk removed. The surface then dries leaving only the hard, furry, shell we think of with coconuts. They do this because of logistics, the green husk is inedible and would only take up unnecessary space when transporting. Edit: Looking more into it the green husk also means it's a younger fruit that's still growing. As it finishes growing the husk also dries and become brown. In both cases the husk is usually removed before transportation.

15:25 i agree, hands down. The best way to raise a kid isn't to shield them from the world, it's to teach them how to stay safe in the world. By shielding a kid, you're creating potential victims and putting them in danger for when they're an adult :(

Nate Ming

TIME TO FEEL LIKE A PROUD ISLAND SON

m

okay frozen next!!

Shaunie Girl

I'm gonna say Frozen next since you've already started listening to Frozen 2.... you'll love it

Neo

This is a fun journey. I would vote for Tangled or Frozen next, unless you haven't seen Mulan.

Clarissa

Anastasia Road to el dorado Prince of Egypt Brave Also have you seen rise of the guardians and the how to train your dragon films? Cause if no, please add them to the list

Shaunie Girl

Hei Hei is my spirit animal lol

Amy Bedster

oh man you need to see in the heights if you love lin manuel mirandas work!

Emily Jewett

Moana 2 isn’t as good in my opinion but very happy to watch it with you and see what you think. Tangled is definitely one to add to your watch list

LoneWolf

Can't you do the Intro/Outro of the songs after the movie? It kills the flow if you do it like you do it...

m

I don’t think he will unfortunately because many people have asked but he doesn’t so I would just skip it

m

I don’t really care for Moana 2 tbh

Brian Cooper

You absolutely need to watch "The Wild Robot"

Damien Frost

tangled frozen 1&2 sing Hercules live action Aladdin also I don’t know if you have been told this but the songwriter plays Amy’s brother in Brooklyn nine nine

Hodge House

My daughter made me love this movie! The part 2 sucked though lol. Next movie? Definitely Tangled, then Princess and the Frog

Bj Howe

Honestly up there with Lion King as my favorite Disney film ever. Just awesome from beginning to end.

Vicente Machuca

i saw moana before i watched hamilton but now, i can really see how much lin-manuel miranda learned from it to do moana's songs

Jujo online

omg luke you should watch Zootopia or Merida next!

Rachael

I did! My dad took my family when it first opened and I went a couple more times while it was in residency. Like a religious experience for me!

fluffqueen91

Absolutely love this movie and am so glad you reacted to it! I don't own many of the more modern Disney films, but this one was a must-have as soon as I first saw it. The story is unique while still having some classic tropes, and ofc the music is phenomenal.

Vitero27

In The Heights! You would love it

TheKnightwatchOfficial

"Scar's don't heal, they fade." If you know, you know. As for how there's a Moana 2, Disney wanted more money. Simple as that.

Astoria

Brave Sing 1&2 Tangled Up (the theme song breaking me every time)

mykanike

I’d love if he watched Princess and the frog

Astoria

Fun fact: the island shaped like a sleeping female silhouette really exists and is simply Tahiti. Which fits with the goddess name, Te Fiti.

Astoria

It's not like killing the flow for us, the bigger problem is, he's also completely taken out of the mood of the film and does not experience the film as he should. Because he is too preoccupied with wondering whether it is a real song or just music for the scene. Which I think is a real shame.

Astoria

You can feel it was planned to be a series not a film.

SidekickSteph

George Washington from Hamilton is Moana’s Dad. The singing monster crab is a famous actor too, Jermaine Clement? I’m close I think 😂 very funny guy, loved his show Flight of the Concords. Lin actually joined pretty late in the game with Moana, but he did still have a heavy hand in the music. He was there from the beginning with Encanto.

TheFrenchieReact

Well, I was today years old when I found out there is a post credit scene in Moana 1 XD

SidekickSteph

I honestly can’t wait for Tangled, you will love every single thing about that movie. Some of the best Disney characters ever!

GreyScale

I've actually never seen Moana 2, but I'd be happy to watch it for the first time with you next week! :]

SidekickSteph

Fun fact: the song where she’s learning about her ancestors, and they’re on the boats, when you see the dolphins racing the boats, that’s very realistic. When I road a Catamaran in the waters outside of Honduras, dolphins actually raced our boat, it was so cool!! They were in the front and the side, I still have the video to this day, one of my favorite moments of life so far 😊

TheWhiteWolves

Would love to see you watch Brave and Brother Bear

GreyScale

You should check out Tangled or the Frozen movies next! They both have some really good songs, and the stories are brilliant as well!

m

plsss yess

SidekickSteph

And just got to the part where you recognized his voice in Shiny 😂 great job!

Stina A

Did he take the Sebastian referance? The Little Mermaid was my favorite growing up <3 I see many people suggest Brave, which is one of my favorites, but it's not a musical, the characters never brake out in song, so it doesn't really fit into the musical theme. I hope to see Tangled, perhaps the Little Mermaid if he doesn't know it. Oliver & Company. And I'll probably watch the reaction to the Frozen-movies too. This was fun. Thank you for the reaction.

m

I know Lin Manuel did the music but I never realized till just now he was singing in we know the way his voice is so prominent how did I not notice lol

SidekickSteph

One day you really need to watch Avatar the Last Airbender, I hope it’s voted for one day. If you like the Gran, you’d like Uncle Iroh. Plus that show is perfection.

Audrey Gianelli

A suggestions of musical movies to watch : Moulin Rouge ! Chicago Rocketman (Elton John biopic) Wicked (part 1 & 2) Tick tick boom (biopic ) LaLaLand

Mary Hatch

Musical recommends 1. Les miserables 2. Newsies (there is the original more traditional movie, or the stage play that’s filmed like Hamilton) 3. In the heights 4. Wicked 5. Hairspray 6. Mama Mia (1&2) Disney favs 1. Frozen 1 & 2 (2 has some of my fav songs) 2. Tangled 3. Enchanted 4. Wish

Mary Hatch

Moana 2 was a bit of a let down, I’m not sure why but Lin Manuel Miranda wasn’t involved with the music the way he was in the first one.

Brian Le

DREAMGIRLS NEXT PLEASE PLEASE

zenting

After all that effort to save the island, they abandoned it and set out to find a new one? I don't get it. Also - how old must that chicken and pig be? Fun movie though :-)

YorHaDen VT

I still remember the time I went to see this movie in a cinema when it first came out. I actually didn't want to see it, but had to accompany my younger siblings who wanted to see it. I ended up enjoying it even more than they did. It is, hands down, my favourite Disney movie ever. The story, the songs, the cinematography, everything in this is just absolutely incredible.

Laurasr618

I think Luke would love tangled!

Vitero27

I forgot all about newsies, I loved that movie growing up and I’m sure Luke would too. Also I haven’t seen anyone mention it but I think he would love “Dear Evan Hansen” as well.

Mary Hatch

Yes! I loved newsies growing up too! It’s one of my all time favorites. The broadway play film one is great too, and it has more songs! I thought about dear Evan Hansen too, I’ve heard the movie isn’t as good as the play tho.

Laura W.

I literally just had the same discovery 😂

Laura W.

Yes, agreed!

blorbothefrog

well i mean it wasn't about saving the island, it was about saving the state of life itself - the island was only at risk because the entire ocean was. it was more about saving their way of life, and sure that changes by the end of the movie but it makes sense

Max

oh 1000% !!!

Evelin

Yessss!

Jessica

If you watch Tangled, I hope you'll watch the series for it as well. It's a continuation of the movie and it has the original voice actors of the main characters from the film.

Jessica

I NEED TO SEE YOUR REACTION TO FROZEN

Ara Araragi

1:42:04 "But you can't expect a demigod to beat a decapod (look it up)" Crabs and many other crustaceans are decapods, meaning they have 10 feet (or 9 in Tamatoa's case, since Maui ripped one of them off...)

Jace Dulohery

During the song "we know the way" Lin Manuel miranda sings the English portion as a cameo, and further, moana's mother is voiced by Renee Elise Goldsberry, who originated the role of Angelica in Hamilton. She's phenomenal!

Robert Dirk H.

You probably already watched it, but I really want a Reaction to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, even so it just would be a Rewatch Reaction.

Ashleigh

The parent trap Remember the titans Hairspray

Leigh-Sherri Hays

Chicago Interstellar (as a parent you will love this! Can be patreon exclusive if you like 😉 Vivo (another Lin Manuel cartoon musical) Definitely Frozen and Frozen 2.. Tangled

Leigh-Sherri Hays

Omg I can't believe I forgot this one!! Absolutely classic!

Spidergirls Mama

Such fun reactions! Some of my suggestions: Hairspray, Shrek the Musical Tangled Frozen 1, 2 Newsies Wicked Wicked: for good

dartcp

Into the Woods /// rock of ages

dartcp

Regarding the topic of grandparents vs. parents: I think it's simply that parents are overly cautious about everything concerning their child, while grandparents have had these experiences with the child and know that such extreme caution isn't always necessary.

Felicia Brown

How far I’ll go makes me cry too 😭 idk what it is lol

blorbothefrog

it is a COMPLETELY different vibe to everything else you've been doing lmao but since you've started doing movie musicals, i cannot more highly recommend bo burnham's inside if you've not seen it already. you could do it the same style as this - breaking up the songs for youtube but watching the movie itself in entirety

misswtfrenchtoast

Hey... I watch Moana without my kids way more often than I should admit 😂🤣 it's too good to wait for them to go through all their phases.

madison alexander

Yes do frozen, and tangled if you haven’t seen that

HesGravity

I can't wait for your reaction to Moana 2, and I'll be even more excited when it's released next week. But just to mention one thing: Moana 2 has a post-credits scene you shouldn't miss, so I'm writing it here now.

Blueberry Wolf

Anastasia and wicked would be awesome

madison alexander

The hook is his power it’s connect to his tattoos. It used to be just a regular hook

Animedevil

I loved you're reactions and Moana is my favourite disney movie. Hope you do Frozen and Tangled too.

kldoss89

I'm sorry. Did you just say you've NEVER seen The Little Mermaid??

LPEndrik

I so exited for you Moana 2 watch next week hopefully. But another Movie you coud watch is the Illumination Movie Sing. It's a Movie about singing Animals its pritty good. I love watchig thesse Movies with you. Thank you so much <3

2026-09-07 01:00 Honestly surprised everyone does want Moana 2 because I disliked it, it felt like an old school "straight to DVD" sequel, I think the fact Lin Manuel Miranda wasn't on the second definitely affected the music. I agree heavy with the other guy who recommended Tangled and Frozen, Tangled might be my favourite Disney animated film

Mamma Mia!

Izzy

Omg yes.. that's such a good one

Seraphina Stardust - Fantasy Writer/creationist/Theorist/Analyst

15:41 you know I have 4 kids myself. But I'm the one always asking why to my kids. My kids never ask me why 🤣🤣🤣 I learned as growing up I detested not being explained stuff, so my kids get the real world kid appropriate explanations. Just my kids haven't learned that asking me for something after I gave them an answer also doesn't wear me down. It just makes me stop explaining and justifying to child logic. I have to be a weird adult/parent now that you brought child logic v parent logic and all that.🤔

Carys2468

You should do the live little mermaid!!!

Jennifer Cash

If you’re looking at Lin Manuel Miranda movies another obvious choice is In The Heights BUT I would recommend Tick, Tick, BOOM! It’s incredible and beautiful and emotional and done very very well. I’d LOVE to see your reaction to it.

Seraphina Stardust - Fantasy Writer/creationist/Theorist/Analyst

1:54:35 mythology itself is extremely dark. It's usually the glorified happy dark stuff we latch to. Especially when you look at how we depic ancieng greeks gods and the epics that survived to now. I don't know specially the Hawaiian culture Moana is derived from, I know Dwaynes family origin come from this culture. But I do appreciate Disney giving us the Darker parts mythology, pretty sure they learned a lesson from their 90s Hercules attempt since that's highly not mythologically accurate I've learned in recent years. Oooooh, I wonder is disney will do a remake of Hercules and go into his 12 trials and how much Hera hated him 🤔 I would eat that up now that I think on it.

Caroline Vitanza

One of the best! Lin Manuel Miranda does not miss. You're right, the entire soundtrack is INCREDIBLY done. The musical numbers, the score and how it's masterfully mixed with Polynesian chants and singing in the language. It's just one of those bullseyes you don't see often. Every time watching this, I get full body chills and just involuntarily sob during I Am Moana and You Know Who You Are...that scene where the ocean splits and she's walking beside this huge wall of ocean....it is unbelievably beautiful. Better than MANY films I've seen. Luke I just love these journeys you're on and I have SO many recs I just hope you see them and people concur with me! Musicals: Mamma Mia! Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again Newsies (live Broadway show) La La Land Hairspray Into the Woods Phantom of the Opera (25th anniversary performance with sierra boggess at royal albert hall) Disney/Pixar (if haven't already seen): Finding Nemo Finding Dory Tangled Frozen Frozen 2 Monsters Inc. Monsters University Turning Red Ratatouille Onward Luca Soul Inside Out Inside Out 2 Up The Incredibles Big Hero 6 Wreck it Ralph Ralph Breaks the Internet Bolt Will comment these on every Disney or musical vid!

Clarissa

Thank you. I thought the second one was horrendous. I've only seen it once but couldn't remember any of the songs after watching it. I don't think it's worth watching

MortalCity

I'd vote the old recording of the stage show over the semi-recent film adaptation but yes, Into the Woods could be a lot of fun

Audrey Gianelli

More suggestions : Sweeney Todd (very dark, the darkest Tim Burton movie) The color purple (2023) Matilda (2022) Enchanted (Disney movie) Better man (Robbie Williams biopic)

Laura Reacts

As a person who loves musicals here's a few of my favorites that i definetly think you should take a look at In the heights: Lin manuel's first musical and one that is extremely personal to him. The musical was adapted into a movie in 2021 by the same director as wicked. Tick Tick Boom: First movie directed by Lin and gave an Oscar nomination to Andrew Garfield I would also check out the Mamma Mia movies because they're just too much fun and for Disney I would do Tangled, The Princess and The Frog and both Frozen Movies

Alison L

Hairspray - the John Travolta version (2007)

Dawn Stafford

Did you notice Lin Manuel's voice during We Know the Way?

Dawn Stafford

Yes!! Flight of the Concords. You nailed it right away.

Samantha Moose

You should definitely watch The Little Mermaid and The Little Mermaid 2.

Jae Right

My goodness! You’ve had an extraordinary journey. We casually discover that you’re an attorney and now a maritime professional. Amazing!

Sarah_M

💜💜💜💜

Stacey A.

Please react to Cadillac records with Beyoncé movie.

Hodge House

Oh Luke would LOVE the "Sing" movie! Both of them are awesome, but the first one has my heart.

Sarah

I cry at the end of Moana every time! Great reaction!!

Hodge House

My friend, Elijah, is in it! He's Amanda Bynes's love interest. That would be cool if he does watch it!

Godzy Lasserre

Tangled !!!! The princess and the frog !!! Frozen 1 & 2 !!!

Godzy Lasserre

Lin Manuel did the ost for Moana and Encanto. By the way, just so you know, Moana means ocean or big water plan in Polynesian languages

Godzy Lasserre

Among the biggest classics of Disney. Amazing songs

Erik Dobbs

Yes! I absolutely agree! It is a big time commit, but it is well worth it. It is one of the most fan loved animated series of all time. It is a must watch. Everyone needs an Uncle Iroh in their life. The world would be a much better place.

Stacia Kilpatrick

I highly recommend Tick Tick Boom! Lin Manuel Miranda directed the movie adaptation! It’s my favorite musical.

Eric Bogerd

This is truly an amazing film. Sadly, while I did enjoy it, Moana 2 is just not on the same level. Disney messed it up by starting the project as a planned mini-series for Disney+, with different songwriters who are just not able to keep up with Lin Manuel (but who really could?) They later claimed that they thought it was too good to 'limit' to streaming, but to be honest they were panicking after a series of mistakes in theatrical releases that each lost money. It shows in the quality and pacing of the movie that it was meant to be a 6 episode series, and cutting it for the big screen stripped away much of the character development for the new characters introduced making it hard to care about their stories or dangers. No spoilers, but they did introduce some interesting new plotlines (ok, minor spoiler, if you know the mythology that Moana is based on they aren't 100% surprising), but I feel like Moana 2 didn't do well enough that we'll ever get to see where they go, and that makes me very sad. Yet another potentially good IP cut short by a short-sighted cash-grab. My big concern for the news that they're developing a Frozen 3 is that they might push too hard, too quickly after managing to make lightning strike twice and really drop the quality, but I hope they've learned enough from Moana 2 to realize the danger in doing that.

Aslaug Sofie Ogilvie

If you’re ever in Thailand on holiday, tattoo by bamboo is still the most common way to do it there

SuSa Ackles

This is sooooo cool that u worked on shipppppps Cooool 🤩 Always wanted to study marine biology cause i ADOOOOORE the sea/ocean. Ive mustve been a mermaid at some point haha Big love

SuSa Ackles

1:28:57 and your companion would be like: „I can‘t carry this heart for you luke. But I can carry you.“ Cue the lotr music HAHA

Leslie Albrecht

And Moana's dad was voiced by the man who played George Washington in Hamilton.

Erin Steele

Please do Coco!! Its just as heartwarming!

Bubbles

Please do Brother Bear sometime if u haven't already seen it

火

he already did

Aaren YASS

He did Coco and Encantó already. Rightfully, a mess afterwards.

Aaren YASS

Its very unlikely he hasn't seen the classic movies. Though, I think he did say he'd watch them if it's been a long while and he doesn't remember it well. He'd let us know if it's a rewatch.

Aaren YASS

I feel he didn't, I'm surprised considering how into Hamilton he was and it wasn't long ago he saw it.

Aaren YASS

Nahhh, let's stick to the better animated counterparts 😂 he has a lot of animated movies to catch up on before we even touch live action.

Aaren YASS

Has Luke seen Zooptopia? That'd be a great next series of movies. We should get some dreamworks into the mix too.

Elevnovs

What about reacting to the song How Far I'll Go in multiple languages, its really awesome

Carys2468

Better is subjective... Though he should watch the animated version first. He should watch the animated then live action right after, rather than waiting till the very end.

RandomTitanGuy

I did scroll but I didn't see anyone mention about the coconuts. Yes the 2 things are the same the round brown furry part is inside the green oval shaped part. The round part is what contains the coconut water and the coconut "meat" and oils. It can also be used to make bowls when it's cleaned an dried. The outer part is a thin, tough "hide" but is very fiberous on the inside and that can be used to make a plethora of things

Ashley Elliott

Brother Bear is a veryyyyy good movie and also very heartwarming <3 Well...devastating in some parts, but very very heartwarming :) There is a Brother Bear 2 as well

Lucas Prestes

Idk, the live action produced by the Rock might revive interest in the series if well done

turner husak family

The dad is George Washington from Hamilton and mom is eliza

Dogsteeves

Imagine at the end he said missy your grounded

BookishWitch

no they're not. Moana's father was voiced by Temuera Morrison and her mother was voiced by Nicole Scherzinger. Washington was played by Christopher Jackson and Eliza was played by Phillipa Soo

turner husak family

Look up who does the singing voice its Christopher Jackson you are right about the mom though

ruffboiMags

idk if no one cleared it up, but Moana is not chief yet - that's still her father, she's basically apprenticing to him and practicing what she'll need to do once she IS chief, but with him there to take over if it gets too much or she makes a bad misstep.

ruffboiMags

"How would a hawk have helped?" well, he is a very LARGE hawk, like still Maui-sized, so in theory he could've fought with Tamatoa, but I think honestly his plan was "grab Moana and fly away".

ruffboiMags

also the line you asked about looking up: "You could try, try, try/But you can't expect a demigod/To beat a decapod (Look it up)" decapod means ten-footed and is what we call members of the crustacean order "decapoda" which includes crabs, lobsters, and shrimp. That said, since Maui ripped off one of his legs, technically he'd be better described as a nonapod. ;)

Demon Saya

Heeeeey, That frickin chicken is voiced by Juliard Trained actor Alan Tudyk.

PurelyWhiimsy

yesssss please watch Dreamgirls the music is sooo good and Beyonce really does showcase her skills as an actor

Shonia Ray

Where the crawdads sing is a good movie…. T. Swift has a song in the movie

Ana

I’ve seen Moana a couple of times before but have not enjoyed it half as much as I did watching you react to it!!! I love your response to every surprise, song, emotional moment! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. You are a very genuine and caring person and I look forward to seeing your reaction to more movies!

Kaylee Smeaton

Maui is an actual mythological figure from Polynesian mythology, namely the Maori peoples I believe. There are a lot of references in this film. Interestingly Moana actually means ocean in the Maori language.

Jamaal

How far I'll go is one of my fav Disney songs.

Deborah Hall

..If you want a great 😊 story told with Music 🎼... PLEASE 🙏 WATCH ... Spirit of the Cimmeron
