Luke, I've been watching One Piece to get caught up for an entire year. I'm finally on Egghead which is just behind this opening/arc. Without spoiling anything, just be prepared to cry many many times. I have sobbed to both one piece and MHA throughout the journey. So just be prepared for even more tears. Love your reactions! the live action is good but you get spoiled on the first 80+ episodes. I'd say it's 80% as good as the anime Recommended for those who dislike old animation or anime in general.

the thing with the One Piece Live action is that it's meant for both types of audience: the new fans will love the characters, the story, the comedy and the action but veteran fans will notice the insane amount of easter eggs that are hidden throughout the series so it's not that the series spoils things it's that it reveals them a lot sooner than with the manga/anime like you can see a random wanted poster of a characters that was revealed in 400's episodes on the second episode, for a new watcher it will go over his head but for a veteran it will pop in an instance

While the Live Action is really good it sadly does work on the knowledge the viewer has seen the the anime already by making references and to events and characters that a new person would have no idea about. The first season covers about 44 episodes of the anime but it will include things that the anime didn’t explain until like 300+. It would be like if a live action Naruto was made and you’d get Danzo’s appearance and his resentment toward the Third as well as the existence of root pre-time skip. While it wouldn’t be a spoiler like “Jiraya is Naruto’s godfather” it’s more like “Jiraya shows up to help Naruto because the viewer knows he’s his godfather and should have been more present earlier in the story”. The One Piece live action won’t just give you clear cut answers the anime but it will include things that would have existed outside of the MCs POV

Definitely avoid the live action if you're going to watch the anime. They made heavy modifications to the story to make it work for live action, and that does mean a lot of reveals and info drops a lot earlier than in the source material. Part of that is because they don't intend to cover the full series in live action, so it doesn't matter as much, and part of it is just them using manga knowledge to add in stuff for existing fans to spot and enjoy, but it's definitely got spoilers and will skew your perception as a first time viewer.

Absolutely not gonna wait for the wit studio version. It would take decades for them to finish it. One piece will probably end in the next few years, so he's gonna watch the original. It'll be a vote as to whether or not to watch an arc in One Pace. Some arcs will be original. My guess is that the shorter arcs will be original and the longer ones or worse ones, like dressrosa or fishman, will be One Pace.

100% watch the anime! I think it captures emotions and displays impactful moments far better than the LA. The LA is good, but pays homage to information that anime watchers already have knowledge about from 100s of episodes deep in the series. For a first consumption of One Piece, it just won’t have the same effect

Why would a reactor ever watch One Pace. They're reacting, not trying to speed through the story. Not trying to cut out the rough bits. Watch the rough bits, consume One Piece, pacing warts and all. It's great, it's a long haul, it's worth it.

yeah no, one pace cuts out almost all comedic moments and leaves only important ones, plus pre time skip which is 500 or so episodes there is no need for that, only maybe from dressrossa but again one pace cuts out a lot of funny moments

Personally i would recommend watching bleach before one piece because the final arc for the series is airing next season. So you ca watch and complete that of your check list and then do one piece as it is not finished and it can give you more eps stacked up while you are watching bleach. I am excited for you to watch it just for me i think that order would be better is all.

Holy cow, learning that you are planning to watch One Piece from the start made my entire week! I'm all for that journey! Edit: if you wanna describe One Piece openings, I feel like you clued into the actual meaning. Every One Piece opening forces a feeling that you don't really need to understand to feel. If you know though? YOU KNOW Live Action specific edit: Watching live action spoils the anime, obviously, but it's not like watching the entire live action will spoil the story that the live action hasn't adapted yet.

I'm all for Luke watching anime only One Piece, but saying that it has spoilers isn't really factual. If he watches the first season of OP live action then of course he is getting spoiled for the first 35 or so episodes. Bottom line, if Luke watches the Live Action One Piece (which has a pretty good season 1 honestly) and decides to continue on, anything that he has missed can be explained without anything being lost.

@Kosumi There are actually a few things that are dropped in S1 of the Live Action that we dont find out until around episode 350. S2 does this too. Its not huge in my opinion but to say that is has no spoilers outside of the section it is supposed to cover, is wrong.

Absolutely not. I am not here to watch Luke react to the highlight reel of the show, I want to see him react to the show as intended. One Pace is good if you have already seen the show and have all the emotional context behind everything.. because it skips that. It skips whimsy-which is what One Piece is about. If you watched One Pace as your first experience, even to just skip something you thought was dragging on, you missed out.

One Pace is a bad recommendation for someone who has never watched the show all of the way through. It skips too much. If he wanted to wait for a condensed version he should wait for Wit to be done with theirs, since he is not doing that I hope that he never touches One Pace, I don't care how long it takes.

I've already been hyped this month from you starting My Hero Academia and Avatar, but when you finally start One Piece it's going to put me over the moon. I'd definitely recommend that you watch the anime first, and maybe the live action only once you're a really good way in. The live action seems to realize they probably won't get to every arc, so they pepper in references and reveals WAY earlier than they happen in the anime.

I still think you should watch Bleach first, it’s going to be a completed series by the end of summer and the hype around it will be big. But also just the fact it’s so much shorter than OP (even more than Naruto) means OP can still be started before the end of 2027

I agree, but the way OP is talked about by his viewers, it seems most already see OP as the shoo-in. Even Luke has said a couple of times phrases like, "when we watch One Piece next." So I've pretty much given up hope for Bleach.
