Really love how you react and that you liked this episode as much as i did the first time i've watched it. In this episode you can see how Deku is a born hero, careing so much for winnig and becomeing the best, but when it's time to help or save others that become the priority no matter what. Also i can feel you about the Todoroki's mother situation, her action was awfull but the fact is that she completely lost it. His father put her in an hospital (wich is absolutly horrible) because she became mental ill after all the thing that she hai to go trougth. Fuck Endavour man

100% not excusing the horrific scar/pain the mother gave to Shoto but I definitely think its less she doesn't like how he looks and more his looks is invoking a trauma she can't help but react to. You can tell she loved and raised him with morals but the look was causing pure pain from the abuse she suffered that she could no longer suppress sadly. So sad all around. He literally didn't say that. He just said all those animes have those crazy action/animation scenes too, never said they were pure action and animation. In fact, he's stated the opposite thing multiple times over the past years. Just because he didn't praise AoT and HxH (like he always does) doesn't mean he sees those as basic action animes, literally never said that. If you've been following him for a while, you'd know those are a top 3 for him BECAUSE they're not just pure action and the actions scenes are always justified.

Another episode that made me cry. 🥹 I think also it wasn't just about Deku trying to get Todoroki to use his full power. He could see the bitterness and resentment he had toward his father, and he knew if Shoto kept focusing solely on that, it would lead to a darker path for him. Or at least a worse life. Who knew we'd get an epic match AND a therapy session? 😛

As someone whose mother/abuser projected her hatred of her ex husband onto me, I get what you mean but that's not at all equivalent to what happened here. She was in the middle of a breakdown about her physically and emotionally abusive husband, when she hears a voice and turns around and sees only shoto's left side of his face, the blue eye and the red hair, and of course that would trigger her fight or flight, she didn't attack him on purpose because it was him, she panicked and tried to defend herself from a nonexistent threat with whatever she happened to have there. She did not know who was actually there. this was not a moment of anything close to rational thinking. she is a victim of her husband's abuse and sadly so was shoto indirectly as well

Also, about Shoto's mom, I've already seen people explain it to you in the comments, so I'll just reiterate what's already been said: at the moment of the kettle incident, she was pretty much insane, or at the very least had severely diminished sanity, caused by long-term abuse at the hands of Endeavor, and because she saw Endeavor in Shoto due to him inheriting Endeavor's fire powers, she snapped.

This is one of my favourite episodes ever, I love how Deku isn't fighting to "win" he's fighting to save someone. Even if he has to give more than everything, to do it. it's such a beautiful exhibition of who Deku is as a person and as a hero.

The situation with Shoto's mom is so complicated. We've been told about forced quirk marriages, we know Endeavor wants to create the 'ultimate hero' so it's pretty clearly implied she was forced into this marriage by her family. Endeavor is abusive, she probably was forced to have kids with him against her will, and it's clear that even if she's venting to her own mother, she's still been in this situation for years and nothing has changed. No one outside the family is going to believe her either, since Endeavor is the number 2 hero, so surely he's a "good guy". We see Shoto's memories of her are pretty much exclusively memories of her being positive and supportive and loving, so she clearly tried to be a good mom to her kids. Yet that phone call shows she is tormented, that she looks at her kids and just recalls her own physical and sexual abuse, and with no support system, I can see why that'd be so suffocating and horrible to deal with. What she did was not okay at all, but I can understand why she'd have a mental breakdown, and why seeing Shoto during that mental break would lead to her just reacting and lashing out. A part of me wants to hate her for doing that to Shoto, but more of me understands and pities her, and feels empathy for her situation.

Luke, you do have to keep in mind that while Deku DOES do a lot more physical training than most other students, a lot of quirks enhance physical abilities beyond the average base human as a side effect. So while its definitely true that he's done more physical training... that doesn't necessarily mean he has a physical edge over other students without activating One for All. He did over Shinso, but Shinso's quirk was purely mental. Most of the students/heroes with more physical abilities also have some level of physical enhancement as well.

I wouldn't say "as much" a victim, I'd just say she's ALSO a victim. Todoroki did absolutely nothing wrong and got serious injuries and trauma from it (at like, 5?); his mom is mentally ill and traumatized and her actions are understandable in that light, but like, she still threw scalding water on her child. She's also an adult. They're not equally innocent.

Honestly, she needed to be hospitalized. Its Endeavor's fault that she's in the mental state she's in (mostly; probably also fair to blame her family for the arranged marriage, etc), but hospitalizing her after she badly injured her own child during a mental break is the *right* choice. Also worth pointing out its not like he threw her in a pit and forgot about her; she's getting the best treatment at a quality mental care facility. Endeavor is a horrible father/husband, but he's not without nuance.

Still one of the greatest MHA episodes and anime episodes to me. Horikoshi was really on something with this whole fight. The stakes of the fight being emotional AND physical with specifics to the characters and story is just...chef's kiss. My heart still trembles when I watch it.

Yep, even Eraserhead said that Deku scored really low on those physical tests they did. He was strong enough to beat Shinso but he's definitely behind the rest of Class 1-A. He's got a lot of catching up to do at this point.

Nobody seems to talk about how crazy the move todoroki did here. The air was superchilled from his ice. The audience was talking about it. But when he used his fire, he superheated it up in an instant so much, the air expanded due to molecule movement and exploded. EXPLODED. Without any extra pressure or container. Giving him the assumption that the air is humid due to the ice melting and frost everywhere on the arena, that expansion of air would mean he had to heat the air somewhere between 500-1000 degrees Celsius in an instant. This would mean the heat he produced as flames would be much MUCH higher due to how heat transfers in a temperature gradient. I'm not a physicist or anything but id estimate 3000-6000 degrees celsius, maybe more? If he used that fire directly on a person, they would instantly vaporize...

Mha is all peak idec. If we didn't have the "slow parts" then the show wouldn't pay off the way it does in the "peak" seasons. It's all needed to form a collectively well thought out story. Plus I appreciate when the show slows down and has worldbuiling and slice of life. It gives the show a breath of fresh air and a gives a more realistic feel to it.

You can see Luke Clearly understand that. I think the point is despite understanding that trauma, she still hurt her own child. One who suffered just like her. It definitely all leads back to Endevour making her go crazy. But the entire family is a mess and full of their own demons.

This was my most favorite fight until 3rd season with all that build up. I stored all your episode reaction since episode 2 to build up for this single episode to watch them in one go because I absolutely hate waiting as I did back then and I would hate see your reaction splitted apart. This series would be amazing as a streaming to be honest. I never forget your legendary streaming of Danmachi 4th season. That season worked only because of all previous build up and our understanding of characters. That was a peak and you are in one right now and even more amazing fights are waiting for you in this anime. Just enjoy the ride ... just maeby speed it up a little :) Im dying here forced to wait. At least add those two weekly episodes together into duble episode Luke. It would be better then splitted apart to be honest. BY THE WAY: You would love: Tsue to Tsurugi no Wistoria ( Wistoria's Wand and Sword ) anime what is just in second season now releasing this season ... absolute peak!

So, I know there is no real justification for what Shoto’s mom did. But also consider that she was broken by that point. Physically and mentally beaten down and abused. You can tell that, in reality, she loved her son (and children), but she genuinely broke and lost her faculties. It’s incredibly tragic.

So, I will avoid spoilers here but I will say this, she was not sexually abused. She did consent to the birth (and creation) of all her children. There is some extra details involved in that, but again, I want to avoid spoilers. Endeavor is a bad guy here, but be careful not to assume the worst of him. In fact, in the beginning Endeavor was a little pushy and their relationship was never one of love, but he wasn't a BAD husband, at first. Then..... y'know..... plot.

That's probably how its meant to be viewed. I think they kinda muddied the waters with how superhuman some of the moments in Deku's initial training arc to prepare for One for All were (like dragging a huge refrigerator with Allmight sitting on it in hero form across sand), only to follow it up with very standard human scores/times for most of the kids when their quirk didn't really apply to the particular test a few episodes later. Deku's "Cleaning up the Beach" moments are probably more for dramatic effect than world-building, but it does make it a little hard to be sure just where the limits/norms for unenhanced physical performance are supposed to be in this setting.

She needed a therapist (and probably a divorce lawyer, honestly) badly BEFORE she assaulted Shoto. After that point, she needed to be hospitalized. Anyone who is mentally unwell enough to attack a 5 year old unprovoked cannot be left unattended with children. It's for her sake just as much as the kids; she loves them and hurting Shoto was probably even more devastating to her mental state than Endeavor's abuse.

Season 5 was pretty garbage and Season 6 was alright but still had its Issues that really bugged me. I dropped it after that since I heard Things not going too well after that, so yesn't. That's enough for me to at least give Input why People may talk negatively about the Show when it's so good early on. Season 3 is the absolute Peak in my Eyes. By now I've at least heard more mixed Stuff about the Ending, so I'm gonna finish it after all sooner or later, but I'm not one to blindly praise something and just blame Haters for its mixed Reputation.

Don't conflate "slow" with "presumed bad". If that's all the Depth you can find in judging Storytelling then I have nothing to even add here. Slow Pacing, Character Growth and Plot Buildup are all wonderful Things if done correctly. But Season 5 especially was just painful to watch.

One of the things I love about this episode is how it shows just how big an impact All Might had on EVERYONE. Deku, Kacchan, and Shoto are kinda the main three of MHA, and all of them trace their inspiration to be the next best hero to All Might and his philosophy/attitude. ... Not even Endeavor's son was inspired by him. Enough said.

Also, there more family backstory to come to fully understand the mother [I forget her name all the time] and Endeavor. But her eyes in that flashback show a woman terrified seeing her husband, because her husband has a one track mind. But this whole family is honestly tragic in my honest opinion. Show casing obsession to the ultimate degress. And I feel like the fire attribute influences or eggs that on constantly. And the mother being ice based on hair coloration alone, show cases how easily ice can snap so close to heat. [Weird metaphor but accurate]
