"Mr. Mediocre..." I love that lady so much.

Emanuel dos Anjos

Hey Luke, I'm a classical musician and a teacher. You were wondering if musicians can play only by muscle memory if they're not hearing the notes, and yes, they can, but it isn't the same thing, they would simply be playing the notes like a robot, just like kousei was known for some time. You can't show the meaning, purpose or emotions of your music properly if u can't hear it, cause u believe it or not, for someone who studied well the techniques of their instrument, the interpretation of the music sometimes is much more mental than physical.

Leonardo Postacchini

Luke... Where is the rest, my man!!! And where is Haikyuu? I am suffering with withdrawal here...

Nikkelz

Haikyuu returns this sunday on rumble, vod will hit patreon monday

Rem is best waifu

Well if you want anime with emotions YLIA is definitely one that will hit you every episode. I have to watch this anime once a year along with Anohona, Angel Beats, Clannad and Plastic Memories. I love my emotion roller coaster animes.

Airtiger

oh yea, I remember all of those being like the big "heavy hitters" of emotions. Didnt watch the other two, but loved Anohana and plastic memories

Payton Preo

Is Tick Tick Boom coming today as the weekly schedule said, or has it been delayed again?

Daniel Thunberg

Emi want the human emotional playing Kosei back, the one she heard the first time he played.

Vicente Machuca

i think the reason why he can't play isn't just because he can't hear his how notes, it's for the same reason he can't hear, he is deep in a mental block, bet he would play better if he just was deaf

Tysado

I always picture the muscle memory not working like when your foot falls asleep and you try walking

TheElementalerWars

That shot of Arima at the piano with a cherry blossom behind him is my GMail bavkground. Has been since I first watched the series

Sarah Landauer

Another big emotions anime that always wrecks me is Violet Evergarden. That got me ugly crying quite a few times.

Krolliox

To those who watch Luke's streams, has he said anything about when the tournament to replace Naruto going to be, been waiting to see whether One Piece finally wins or get disappointed it doesn't.

Mad Kangaroo

I really like your comment. I used to play the violin, basically since I was 3 or 4 until I was 16ish. I had a couple experiences when I was very young and I had a competition or a concert kind of event, I was petrified when playing in front of crowds, and I played and basically was waiting my performance away, playing until it was done and I could get off the stage, and I would play too fast but just to get it over with, going through the motions like a choreography, even though I would practice and know pieces by heart, I would play too fast but in autopilot. I think I can compare it to the feeling of holding your breath or doing a plank exercise without looking at a stopwatch and stop when you think it's been a minute, counting the seconds in your head, you tend to speed up the count and when you are done, you check the time and it's only been 45 seconds!

Cirqque

This anime knows how to aim right for the feels and always crits. I think a big part of it is how well they manage to portray the character's emotions. While I've grown up with a dad who loves opera and classical music (and who had to be heavily vetoed by my mom when he wanted to name me something like Rusulka or Brunhilde), I don't know much about creating music. Still, even without the added visuals and underwater sound effects, you can hear the sheer panic and desperation in the way Arima plays, then the resignation when he starts to give up, amd the beauty and peace when he finally finds the space where he's happy and comfortable with his playing.

Nikkelz

sadly said during the avatar stream bumped again to next week hes behind catching up still

Nikkelz

he's already confirmed the vote is being skipped, he'll be doing one piece after haikyuu

Spudnick2010

His reaction to the lady at the end. “Have I seen her before”… Well kinda sorta…

Anubis

Thank you for these reaction videos, Luke! About the beginning of the episode, Arima playing so poorly despite muscle memory and practicing the piece as much as he could, I just think he's overwhelmed with frustration when it happens. That's also why he hits the notes way harder, the same way he did when accompanying Kaori. It's not about what he plays anymore, he just wants to hear. He's still young too, so managing the frustration must be even harder, and the anime shows it pretty well in my opinion. But from that second part of the episode, maybe we can hope he's finally over it. Looking forward to the next episodes reactions!

Airtiger

Kirameki, the ED song that was playing, is one my favorite ED songs in all of anime

Krolliox

Why after Haikyuu? Didn't he said it would be after Naruto, so another year or more of waiting, since the last Haikyuu video was in March 16th, more than 2 months ago.

Nikkelz

Haikyuu returns to stream tomorrow. more options may open up but the last stated plan is after haikyuu which will end sometime in sept

Malik Ford

Can we get another upload 🥹

ZeroShonen

I'm not a professional musician; in fact, I haven't played in almost 10 years now, and I will never be able to play again (injuries on both hands). But I used to play classical music as a pianist (one of the reasons why I love this anime so much, of course), but I can share an experience of mine: There was a time when I hated to play. What began as a new hobby became like a job. I was forced to learn on my own, to practice before doing anything else (recreational), etc. (That on top of being a high-performance athlete of TKD), so there was a point where I could say I felt like Arima in some way. I didn't stop listening to the music, but I lost all sensation of rhythm. All of a sudden, Mozart, Bach, Rachmaninoff, instead of being like "teachers," they became "bosses" which I hated, and lost the rhythm, everything that I played sounded... off. Wrong tempo, wrong feeling, etc. My favorite piece to play was what we commonly know as Rondo alla Turca or Turkish March, I loved playing that until one day I stopped getting the feeling of doing it right, and it sounded off. Up until this day, I struggle really hard to find rhythm while doing things, like dancing, "playing", rhythm games, etc. I don't know if I will ever be able to get that rhythm again, but it's one of the reasons why I love this anime so much, besides the story and everything else, I feel it's more personal than what it might look to other people. So if I suffered from a situation like this, I do 100% beleive that something like what Arima is going through is actually real for someone. And I know that even if you played by muscle memory, it will never be the same as playing with "your soul" for one way to put it.

Japania

They actually walk like that in japan. I don't know for friends, but i saw an interview where the japanese girls were jealous of couples coming from america, europe etc. Because they too wish they could walk side by side with their lovers. Guys walks in front of girls in japan, that's why we see that so much in anime.

Earl Preston

thank you! plastic memories is dare i say a hidden gem. man that gets you. plus if i remember right very particular art style that stands out. he's already done angle beats so thats a given. has he done clannad? Oh i was just going to mention that one object that was so special in the series, good thing i caught myself.

Earl Preston

i havent read every comment but im thinking a common take on the mother smiling is most likely him letting go of his regret/loss/suffering and playing for himself. the clear motif youve already noticed of the color exploding whenever he kind of "sees the light" so to speak. very moving. I'm also thinking, not a pianist but have played guitar (badly but enjoyed the process) and im thinking the piano trilling in the end of the episode for the soundtrack would likely be ascending major chords. very bright. very moving to a destination. not sure if htere were key changes or not. but anytime you keep riding up a scale your lookign for that anticipation of reaching even higher just like the character is in the story. at least thats how i take the soundtrack to be building towards. a very common technique for hero themes. not sure im describing it technically correct but that buidling momentum for the ah yes crescendo that is the word i think best describes the aha moment for the music.

Rem is best waifu

Only one he has seen is Angel Beats sadly, No Clannad or after story yet. I doubt we see Plastic Memories with how under appreciated it is but I own both Japanese and German versions bc I love it so much. My mother is German so I first watched the German version but I have learned to appreciate the Japanese version alot more after years of watching anime.

Earl Preston

maybe theres a cliff notes version?? I guess not. maybe the show opening at least. plastic memories definitly deserves more attention.

Hitsters

I'd add Charlotte on this list as well, it hit me a few times Clannad tho, not so much. I felt it was trying a bit too hard to make us cry and it kinda ruined it for me. It got me one time in After Story, but that was my dumbass brain overthinking, it didn't reach the scenario I had in mind at all

Rem is best waifu

Charlotte is definitely good but it isn't an emotional roller coaster like some of the others in my opinion. I think I only cried when episode 7 aired. And Clannad I always include After story as one.

Kenneth Hoerz

It is rare for me to find any one episode in this wonderful anime that I don't catch myself tearing up with some emotional connection.
