VAM2 BETA1 OVERVIEW (Patreon)
Content
The virtamate 2 beta was released a few of hours ago on the meshedvr patreon. I took a quick look. Sharing with you guys my thoughts on it.
USER INTERFACE
The UI is completely different from VAM1. There's 2 sidebars. On the left, the sidebar has 2 panels:
1 - an inspector of all the objects in the scene
2 - the options for the selected item in the inspector
The right sidebar is by default empty, and it serves as a place where you can drag and drop some of the options/widgets from the panel #2, to keep them open as you navigate around in the inspector. You can also drag and drop the widgets anywhere on the screen:
SKIN & BODY
The models skin shaders look very realistic. There's translucency:
to make body parts, especially fingers & ears, look better when close to lights. The skin is also very detailed:
There are a few options to change the skin:
And a couple of examples for tattos and makeup:
Models also have 3 level of details (LOD) bodies and these can be changed:
By default these change automatically based on distance to them. But it's possible also to force a specific body, like the low quality one for example to improve performance.
OBJECTS
There's few basic shapes, lights and furniture items that can be added to the scenes. These are the objects available:
It's possible to save and load scenes:
MORPHS
There are a few morphs included and it's possible to customize the models quite a bit.
POSING
By default you don't see any controller when posing. If you select a hand for example, you don't get a gizmo to move around like in VAM1 (the red green blue arrows) . Controllers have to be activated from the menu (part of he inspector list, at the bottom):
And then they'll look like this:
Overall, the posing system seems more complicated to use that it is in vam1, at least for me. It will probably take some time for people to get used to it.
