Still Wing

Dick Grayson is adopted by Bruce Wayne aka Batman, he’s trained as Robin and ends up meeting other Sidekicks. He reaches the position of getting the Tibetan Monk training. During this training when he meditates he gets contacted by one of the Forces of the universe, the Still Force. Robin becomes the vessel of the Still Force giving him powers. Thanks to Batman’s training he uses the power as a tool rather than relying on it. Wally feels a weird connection to Dick now, the boy wonder helps him connect to his Speed Force in a different way through the monk training. Grayson/Kid Flash/Harem

Chapter 1 Still Force

Dick Grayson was taken in by Batman/Bruce Wayne. He was given a home, family, and training. He ends up becoming Robin, forming a dynamic duo. Alfred even admits that Batman is better with Robin, and Bruce is better with Master Dick.

As a “sidekick” he ends up meeting other sidekicks on hero missions. Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Speedy. He was taken on more and more dangerous missions. Flash, Aquaman and Green Arrow noticed that Batman was treating him as a partner than a sidekick. This brought up the discussion of the future and their wards joining the League when they were ready.

Wanting to protect him, Bruce set up Robin’s next phase of training, working with the Tibetan Monks. Batman had learned a lot of different techniques from his brief time there. He felt it prepared him for many battles he’s had. He did, and part of the training was meditation, connecting to the universe. There were a lot of different forces in the universe, besides the Gods of Order and the Chaos Lords, there was also the Red, the Green, the Blue, and even the Speed Force.

While meditating Richard Grayson made a connection to another force in the cosmos. The Still Force, in relation to the Speed Force it speaks to Grayson and offers him to be his vessel. This force was nothing if not patient and while the other forces were busy, he made a connection with the boy.

Dick sees the power as a potential tool he can use to help people, no different than his training or the gadgets Batman prepares for him.

After embracing the power, the monks continue to train him in controlling his new found abilities. Giving him a deeper understanding of the universe and it’s balance. In theory Dick could use this power to travel back in time, the Still Force is a bit different than the Speed Force, but he could project his consciousness back in time to his past self. This could still be a problem, but Grayson understood changing the past could cause serious consequences. If he prevented his parent’s death, someone else could die instead, he wouldn’t be adopted by Bruce, become Robin, and the many people he helped wouldn’t be helped. He focused on protecting the present and benefiting the future.

Grayson harnessed the Still Force and he could freeze someone in place for a bit, he could even fire beams of Slowness, slowing something down for a few seconds, 30 seconds at his current ability. The monks even gave Grayson a bladeless sword, which he could channel the Still Force into to form a sword of energy.

He trained hard, hoping Bruce would be happy when he came back. When Batman came to check on Grayson he wasn’t. The monks tried to explain that Meditation was a key to the cosmos, they saw Grayson as blessed for being connected with a cosmic force.

Dick didn’t understand, Bruce wanted him to get stronger for his safety and protection but apparently these powers were crossing a line. When he trained with Zatara he once considered learning magic, but Zatara said certain powers have a price, a weight on the soul that can draw someone to the dark side. Bruce saw a lot of himself in Grayson so he was worried about the boy going dark.

He returned as Robin, but Bruce had put his walls up. He gained an excuse as Batman crossed paths with Jason Todd, taking in the boy as his new ward. Bruce saw potential in him and Dick welcomed him as his little brother.

Batman was focusing on training Jason and Batgirl. He kept sidelining Dick even though the boy was helpful and they had been partners. His excuses piled up but Dick just accepted it, and focused on his own training and helping Jason. The two bonded even though Batman and Robin drifted further apart.

Grayson noticed, Alfred noticed and didn’t approve.

They started having more fights, even when they did work together Batman had issues when Dick used his powers. Even when he was helpful. Despite the boy proving he was being responsible with this gift.

Bruce even called in the Flash duo, Barry Allen and Wally West, they also had a unique force responsible for their powers. They sat him down and essentially had an intervention with him on how his abilities could be dangerous. Wally was equally blind sided he thought he was just coming to see Dick, when this went the way it did he looked embarrassed to be here.

Wally and Dick were friends dealing with the juggle of; long distance, busy school and hero life. He’d heard about Dick’s new powers, but they hadn’t seen each other. This wasn’t how he wanted to reconnect.

For Grayson this was like having a Priest, a Rabi, and a Nun coming to talk to him about having sex. It was insulting and humiliating. He still sat through it, letting Barry grill him on how he used his powers, getting scenarios on how he’d handle a situation, basically giving him meta human therapy to see if he was a danger to himself and others. ‘I hope this shows I’m not a problem.

Barry felt the force inside of Dick, and felt it was similar to the Speed Force but different. “I don’t think he’s in any danger.” Barry said to Bruce after the meeting.

“Can you be sure?”

“Batman, I think you are worrying too much, I know you care but he’s a good kid.”

“Hmm.”

“What’s the deal, I know you care about him but this feels more…”

“I just need to be sure he’s safe, if anything happens it’ll be my fault.” Batman blamed himself for bringing Grayson into the fight, the mission. He had his reasons but he felt Dick had crossed a line that he couldn’t go back from.

“Ugh I don’t believe this!” Grayson hit his bed and groaned in frustration.

“Dude I’m so sorry, Flash said we were visiting he didn’t tell me we were doing that.” Wally had also been in trouble. He had simulated Barry’s experiment to tap into the speed force as well, he got a huge lecture how dangerous that was. His ability in using the Speed Force wasn’t as strong as Barry for different reasons, it bugged him at times.

“It’s not your fault, but I need some air.”

“Air huh?” In a flash he was suited up. “Air Kid Flash at your service, know any good ice cream shops?”

Grayson smiled. “Yeah.” He got changed and Kid Flash drank in his friend, he hadn’t seen him in so long. Dick had gone through a growth spurt. They were now the same height, Grayson’s body was honed by training, intense training! The boy had an amazing ass, something Kid Flash noticed and tried not to stare at. When he tried to pull up his pants he struggled with his crotch, Wally got a peek at Grayson’s bulge, without the cup and padding the hero suits provided.

Robin got changed into his civies. “Alright let’s do this.”

“Princess carry or piggyback?” He asked with a shrug.

Robin sighed. “Princess carry.”

Wally scooped him up. “Whoa dude you’ve gotten heavier.”

“Maybe you’ve just gotten weaker.” He pinched Wally’s cheek. “Have you been working out at all?”

“I’ve been busy!” They left a note.

Went to get ice cream be back later, Robin & Kid Flash.

Wally zipped off, and he felt faster than he’d ever felt before. They didn’t know it yet, but the forces could power each other up. Robin being in contact with Wally gave him a boost. The two walked around, holding hands, not wanting to let go of each other. There was a cosmic pull between them, something that always existed between them surged. “So uh tell me about your training trip.” Kid Flash changed into his civies, getting naked and redressed in a flash.

They walked around town, holding hands and talking. The two looked like a couple the ice cream man gave them two extra scoops in honor of love. They didn’t correct him, they just blushed and didn’t release each other’s hand if enything they squeezed it tighter.

Flash and Kid Flash left, but Batman didn’t stop the parade of wellness checks. Dick had to sit down with Black Canary and Martian Manhunter. Again he did it, hoping this would show Bruce he was okay and that he could trust him again. It felt like he was punished for getting stronger. Like he’d broken some forbidden rule he was never told existed.

Nothing helped. Batman continued to act without Robin. He even got mad at Dick for capturing a villain he’d wanted to scare into following a lead. Robin was confused because he hadn’t even used his powers, he’d only used Bruce’s training, Bruce didn’t tell him the plan. “I’m not a mind reader.”

“You’ve always been able to follow my lead before.”

“We were in sync before!” Robin snapped.

“Ho ho, trouble in paradise?” The criminal Robin had caught spoke up. Robin froze him in time.

“Robin!” Batman snapped.

“He’s fine!” He crossed his arms. “I thought you’d be proud of me, I trained, I worked hard, I thought long and hard before accepting this gift, believing I could use them and you’d be proud of me, but you’ve been pushing me away, it’s like you are scared of me.”

“I’m scared for you.”

“Why?!” Batman didn’t answer. “I thought we were a team, partners Batman and Robin. I was happy being by your side, I was even hoping…” He stopped himself.

“Robin...I…” He reached for him and Dick stepped back.

“I think it’s time we part ways.” He removed his mask and Batman saw the tears. “I think I need to walk my own path without you.”

“But I…” Robin took a step back.

“You’ve been training Jason, he’s ready and you have Batgirl, you don’t need me.” He walked off. The criminal unfroze and was confused as Robin was missing.

That night he went home and packed. Alfred was furious at Master Bruce, he knew immediately that he was wrong. Jason felt terrible. “You aren’t leaving because of me right, I won’t become Robin if…”

Dick stopped him and looked him in the eye. “I want you to become Robin, Batman needs Robin Jason.”

“Then why are you leaving us!”

“Because I’m not Robin anymore, I don’t know who I am as a hero. I’m growing and I need to find myself.” He pulled Jason into a hug. “I’ll always be your big brother and if you ever need to talk call me. If you need me I’ll be there.”

Jason wanted to say he needed him now, he loved Grayson, he didn’t want him to go. He’d seen the growing distance between Bruce and Grayson, staying now would just cause problems down the road. He needed space to grow. Plus it didn’t need to be him that said something.

They hugged and parted ways. Grayson hugged Alfred. Bruce and him stared at each other. “Call me if you need me.”

“We’ll be fine.”

Jason wanted to scream at Bruce.

Dick moved to Bludhaven and began to rise as a hero there. He was actually closer to Wally now, a roughly 6-10 hour drive so for a Speedster and a Stillster they could see each other more. Grayson had been holding himself back, out of Bruce’s shadow he was really shining. He could slow time down and make the trip in 6-10 minutes. Wally could make the trip in 15 minutes if he wasn’t trying.

Connecting with Wally, Grayson had been thinking, he passed on the monk training, working with Kid Flash to hone his Speed Force in a different way. He helped West get some much needed combat skills and hone his vessel. The training worked Wally began to harness the Speed Force to create kinetic projectiles, kunai, shuriken, Dick even loaned Wally his sword hilt and Wally was able to channel the Speed force into a sword.

Maybe he couldn’t vibrate through walls like Barry could, but he had other tricks. By training together they felt the sparks of their forces. They could empower each other temporarily, Wally could match Barry’s speed with a boost from the Still Force. Wally could do the same and empower the Still Force, but Grayson didn’t ask for that.

Dick kept his promise with Jason, they talked on the phone, if he wanted training, if he wanted help with homework, Dick showed up. They could spend more time together, Dick could turn his room into a chamber of stillness creating a time dilation, it was short and would break if they left the room or if the room was disturbed. They got close over the weeks and months Grayson’s stillness gave them.

He stayed out of Bruce’s way, with his powers it was easy.

Then came the day that changed everything. Dick’s heart sank when he got a call from Batman. “Joker has Robin…” Batman’s voice came over the comm.

“What?”

“I’m trying to find him, but he’s in trouble I need your help.” He’d called in the whole Justice League, asking a favor.

“I’m on it.” Batman had a plan but Grayson had a plan of his own. He called Wally. “I need your speed force, to make me stronger, Jason needs help!”

Kid Flash did it without hesitation. He passed the speed force into Dick and his power surged.

Jason was found and rescued. Joker’s plan was to try and break Batman, by killing Robin, make him snap. He’d beaten Jason with a crowbar, set explosives, even had worked with the Shadows to distract Batman and Batgirl.

Dick found him, saved him, but Jason had almost died. He used the Still Force to freeze Jason so he wouldn’t suffer from his wounds.

Boom!

Batman arrived as the warehouse blew up but Grayson had already moved them to a safe distance. He was keeping Jason stable they could transport him, he’d make a recovery. “Robin...umm…”

“Still Wing, I sore through the air like a bird, but not a robin anymore.”

“How did you find this place?”

“I walked through the stillness.”

“You used your powers?” Grayson nodded. Bruce was torn wanting to lecture Dick about being so reckless and also wanting to be grateful that Jason was okay. In the end he couldn’t decide, and said nothing. “Hmmm.” A grunt of a noise.

Grayson wanted to yell, but he was still brimming with the Still Force energy.

Jason looked up at him. “You came...for me…” He gave a weak smile. “You’re here...both of you…”

“I’m taking him to the hospital.” Grayson scooped Jason up.

“I’ll drive, it’ll be…” He blinked and Dick was gone. “Damn it.”

There was a secret hospital heroes could be taken to, Batman knew that’s where they’d go. He let everyone know.

The staff took Robin back and Grayson broke down. Kid Flash zipped in and found him on his knees. “Dude!” He rushed over.

“You should have seen him Wally...Joker messed him up bad...he almost died…”

“But he’s gonna be okay, you saved him.”

“I should have been there, I could have been there, I….” His energy crackled as his emotions flared. A part of him wanted to rip the Joker apart, with the Still Force he’d never see him coming. This was a slippery slope, abusing his powers in such a way it’d be wrong.

The thought crossed his mind, dragging Joker back into the warehouse, freezing him there and taking Jason letting him be killed by his own explosives he left for Jason, or Batman, or anyone who showed up.

“Shh, it’s okay…” Wally held him tight. “I’m here!”

He returned the embrace, the storm of his emotions anchored by Wally.

Bruce didn’t have his anchor, he went and found the Joker, beat him so bad he was put in a full body cast. He’d survive but the maniac would be out of commission for months if not years.
