Chapter 1

The Straw Hats have come to Punk Hazard, having picked up a distress signal. They come to investigate only to find a sea on fire, so an investigation crew goes to the island. Luffy, Zoro, Robin, and Usopp use the Mini Merry to get close to the island.

They arrive to find even the land is burning, the group encounters a dragon and together, Luffy and Zoro take it down. The rubber boy found a strange pair of talking legs, but before he could chase after them he hears another voice.

‘Lonely…’

“Hm?” Luffy looked around. His eyes landed on Zoro and he smiled. “You don’t have to be lonely Zoro, I’m right here!” His rubber arms encircled the muscular swordsman and gave him a hug.

The greenette blushed. “Oi Luffy! I didn’t say anything.”

“Hm? I thought…”

‘Lonely...so lonely…’ His eyes widen, and he releases Zoro. Robin notes that the slight look of disappointment when he let go.

Luffy takes off. “Wait Luffy!” Usopp called but the rubber boy was fast, and his crew gave chase.

He followed the voice to a strange building that was all locked up. “Hey Zoro, can you help open this?”

Zoro eyed it. “Sure!” With a few quick slashes the locks and the door were slashed and the door was...technically open.

Opening the door caused the beast inside to stir.

“Aaaahhhhh!” Usopp screamed as a massive ooze creature came out. “What is that thing?”

“So cute!” Robin said, seeing the creatures form as a gelatinous axolotl. As it came out to investigate the crew scattered.

She noticed when it touched a building it began to dissolve. “Be careful it may be poisonous and acidic.”

The creature was half crazed with a mix of loneliness and hunger. It started going wild. “Hey that’s enough!” Luffy snapped.

“Careful Luffy that thing is a monster!” Usopp wailed.

It charged at Luffy, who adjusted his straw hat. “That’s not nice…” He released his King’s Haki, his will power rushing out in waves.

The ooze trembled, it’s glowing yellow eyes turning purple as it calmed down. “You were the one calling out to me right? Let’s be friends!” It tilted it’s head to the side.

“What are you talking about Luffy that thing attack us, it’s a monster!” Usopp wailed again.

Luffy shook his head. “You aren’t a monster, you are just hangry, I get like that to when I don’t eat my 9 meals a day.” Luffy told it to follow them and guided the slime to where they left the dragon. “Here eat some of this.”

He offered the slime some dragon meat, which it ate dissolving flesh and bone alike. “So cool!” Luffy praised.

“So cute!” Robin giggled.

“It is not cute!” Usopp screeched. The ooze shifted it’s tail, when it struck a building it began to dissolve it. “See that thing is dangerous, get rid of that thing Luffy!”

“It seems to have some control of it’s corrosive abilities or he’d melt right through the island.”

“That’s so cool, hey Zoro, can I keep him!” He smiled brightly.

“Huh?” Zoro’s jaw dropped. First a giant kraken now this slime lizard thing.

“No way, that thing is huge, it won’t even fit on the Sunny.”

“Maybe it can control it. Hey!” He waved at the ooze to get it’s attention. Luffy inflated himself, doing a Gum Gum Balloon. “Can you do this?”

Again it tilted it’s head to the side in confusion. Monkey grinned and did a Gear Third! “See?” The ooze seemed to understand, it took in a breath and began to shift in size. It was still huge but now smaller than the dragon they fought. “Good boy!” Luffy praised.

He used haki to touch the ooze, which protected him from the corrosive nature, but poison began to wash through him. Thanks to Luffy’s antibodies the poison was neutralized. “Yosh yosh!” He said sweetly, patting it on his head.

The gentle touch and kind praise warmed the ooze’s heart. He was so much nicer than that other man, who gave him a name and locked him up. The poor ooze was left trapped for two years all alone.

Luffy’s hand was a bit numb. “See it’s poisonous to we can’t trust this thing Luffy!” Usopp continued to wail and the ooze hissed at him.

“He says you shouldn’t be so loud and rude!”

“What do you mean he says, it’s a thing a gooey massive lizard thing!”

“I know cool right!” Luffy put his hands on his hips. “I’ve decided, I’m keeping him, why don’t you join my crew and become my pet!” Usopp’s jaw dropped and Robin giggled.

Luffy spent some time training the massive ooze creature, helping it get a grasp of his abilities. It wasn’t a lizard that ate the ooze ooze or slime slime fruit, it was a toxic ooze that was given devil fruit powers. The beastly soul gained knowledge and had a sense of self.

With Luffy guiding it, the ooze learned it was both toxic and corrosive but he could turn that off and control it. He had him try to pick up rocks without trying to dissolve them, praising him when he did it, and encouraging him when he failed. Like a lizard’s venom.

He was a natural with animals, and with his haki he was able to understand the ooze’s feelings. “Come on Smiley!” Luffy waved.

“Smiley?” Zoro asked.

“He said that’s his name, I like it!” Luffy patted the Axolotl’s head, able to touch him without his haki. “Good boy Smiley!”

‘So cute!’ Robin thought.

Usopp was getting worried about Luffy, first he was saying he heard voices when they were down in Fishman Island, now this?

Smiley licked Luffy making the boy laugh. When it came to the rubber boy, he didn’t want to hurt him, so it was much easier to control his powers with him. His animal spirit was being stimulated and it helped allow him to understand what he was.

Caeser Clown made him from a deadly gas, that he collected and liquefied. A deadly weapon that he used special technology to feed it a devil fruit and give it life. After he was “born” he was sealed away, so his potential wasn’t discovered.

Animals could understand their abilities with time or training. The axolotl was figuring out the limits of his gel body, being able to shift from a liquid to a solid. He was a living poison that could self replicate. Since he was alive he could control it, just like his poison and corrosive effects. Being made into an ooze granted him corrosive traits, while the properties of the poison he could apply in other ways. Caeser thought he was just a living weapon for killing, but he was short sighted unaware of what he truly created by introducing a devil fruit to it, but why would he, it wasn’t his technology he used to give Smiley life.

Smiley already figured out the slime ability to minimize.

The group + one Smiley continued to explore the burning lands, Luffy enjoying his new pet. “I wonder if we’ll find those legs somewhere.”

They did run into the legs, being caught by a cheetah centaur. Luffy thought he was so cool, too bad he was an enemy and swiftly attacked the group. Smiley helped, by spitting a glob of corrosive ooze out, it hit the man’s weapon and helped dissolve the net holding the legs.

In a fist fight there was no contest, the cheetah centaur was built for speed and long range combat. Smiley learned he was omnivorous he could eat anything, plants, meat, bones, rocks, cloth, it made no difference to him. “Another glutton.”

Robin giggled.

As they got closer to the center lake they received a call on the mini transponder snail. It seems while they were exploring the ship was attacked and taken down with a gas weapon, the crew was taken by strange men all except for Brook who was mistaken for a corpse. The ship was moved to the other side of the island, an area of snow and ice.

They could see it across the lake, one side was burning while the other was frozen and cold. Smiley began to jiggle, afraid of the water. “Could he have eaten a devil fruit?” Robin pondered.

Luffy crossed his arms. “Hm?” He got an idea. “Ta-dah!” It was one of Sanji’s lunch boxes. They were durable and tough, able to be sealed for freshness and they were waterproof. “Get inside here as we cross the lake.”

Usopp face palmed. “Luffy...this thing is too big...there is no way it can fit in there.”

Smiley took that as a challenge. It focused, shifting and contracting the ooze and woosh. He minimized himself further and fit himself inside the lunch box, he blinked cutely. Smiley let out a noise that was akin to. “Haha I could do it.”

Luffy sealed him up and they took off, getting attacked by Brownbeard’s centaur squad. Their banana boat got sunk and they managed to escape the water after Brook showed up, but since they were wet and now on the snow side they were freezing.

They hijacked some jackets and warm clothes from the centaur squad. Brook saw the legs and mentioned he was attacked by a torso. Together it was easy to put the body back together again. “I wonder where the head is?”

The headless body bowed and somehow thanked them for helping him get put back together. “Ahhh the headless body is still talking.” Usopp screamed. Luffy just laughed.

Smiley was let out of the lunch box, and he shifted to an even smaller form, with his body more compact he was a lot more solid, and it looked like Luffy had a little red axolotl on his shoulder. “Brook this is Smiley!”

Monet observed all this and went back to report to the master.

Caeser Clown was pissed that Straw Hat Luffy stole his precious experiment. He had more trouble as Smoker and members of G-5 were knocking at his back door. Law was tasked to go deal with the marines, and Caeser sent the Yeti Cool brothers to deal with Straw Hats.

Smiley Trained Chapter 2 Poison

Caeser Clown was a piece of work. As vile as his devil fruit the Gas Gas no mi. The man used to work with Vegapunk THE Vegapunk in a group known as MADS. What Caeser loved was drugs and poison, especially gas weapons as they had a wide range of attack and application. He was quite sick and twisted, not valuing much of human like outside of as potential test subjects and lab rats or as he affectionately called some Guinea Pigs.

He had no loyalty to either pirate or marine, placating to both so long as he could keep experimenting and get funds for his research. He made lethal weapons for Marines so they could wipe out pirates, not caring about collateral damage. In kind he would even sell the same weapons to pirates so he could then sell armor to both sides using the funds to make more weapons.

Even then he wasn't much of a scientist, he got a huge amount of money from Big Mom only to blow it on booze and women. He made connections with dangerous pirates like Kaido and Joker for protection. As he was the only one who could produce SAD a key ingredient for the artificial devil fruit known as Smile. He even struck a deal with a Warlord to gain extra security for his lab on Punk Hazard. While other scientists struggled for funding and resources, Caeser Clown spent a lot of his funding on himself.

Clown at his core was a jealous man with hedonistic tendencies. Jealous of Vegapunk’s brilliance, he was constantly cursing the man instead of improving himself. In his mind he was already better than the other scientists in MADS, but Vegapunk was the only one his ego couldn’t write off as easily.

He cut corners both in his research and his materials, and refused to acknowledge any failure on his part. Yes in theory in science there is no failure only new discoveries, but Caeser was the type of man to do the same thing over and over again expecting a different result only to get bored he wasn't getting the result he wanted and move on to another idea.

His artificial devil fruit project was ripped from Vegapunk's research, and his chemical SAD was poorly made making the success rate of the Smile Fruits be a 1/10, with many harmful side effects. Caeser thought everything he did was flawless, so he never looked into improving the formula.

With his drugs they were highly toxic or addictive, with terrible side effects that didn't balance out in the slightest.

The technology that gave Smiley life wasn't his own, so of course he had no idea the potential of Smiley. In fact he already had a plan in the works to kill Smiley to create a new weapon.

It was his weapon that turned Punk Hazard into a wasteland, but he made it seem like it was Vegapunk's fault pretending to be the angel of mercy and source of salvation to those that suffered from it.

All of these were examples of Caeser’s half assed work, but the list was a lot longer.

When Luffy's team landed on the fire side of Punk Hazard Clown dispatched agents to capture the ship and the rest of the crew. Nami, Franky, Chopper, and Sanji were captured after being knocked out by gas. Brook was mistaken for a corpse and left on the ship, allowing him to wake up, kick ass, and meet back up with Luffy. The ship had been brought to the cold side of the island.

Caeser Clown was already scheming what to do with his new guinea pigs. He was planning to take Franky apart and extract Vegapunk's laser and convert it for his own purposes. 'Hmm a poison laser that disperses into a deadly gas explosion!’ Man was positively creaming himself at the possibilities.

Then Monet gave her report and he learned that Straw Hat Luffy had taken his precious Smiley. “That shitty rubber brat I'll melt him into goo!”

To make matters worse Marines were knocking on their back door. “I'm surrounded by pests!”

“Looks like you need some help.” Trafalgar Law received a glare from Caeser.

“Don't act like this isn't a problem for you to Law. Why don't you do your job and get rid of those marines?” The gas man pointed an accusing finger at the Warlord.

Law frowned. He didn't like to be told what to do, especially by a creep like Clown, but they had an arrangement so he had to hold up his end of the bargain. 'So, Straw Hat Luffy is here huh?’ He held back a smirk.

“Law…you didn't bring Straw Hat here to try and ruin me did you?” He loomed over Law trying to be menacing.

“I'm sure you monitor my communications, I haven't contacted anyone. It has been two years since I've seen him.” Law was playing it cool.

“Oh? So you wouldn't object to me sending the Yeti Cool Brothers after him?” Law shrugged.

“Do as you like.” He left to go deal with the marines. Trafalgar didn’t believe the Yeti Cool Brothers would bring down Straw Hat Luffy, if he could be cheeky he’d wish them good luck, they were gonna need it.

Clown called on the Yeti brothers. The two behemoths make a move on Luffy's party.

They attacked long range using powerful knockout gas. “We got 'em!” They checked and it looked like they were all knocked out.

When the Yeti Cool Brothers attacked the gas did go off, but Smiley sensed danger and reacted, as the poison gas was released he sucked it down. His body turned blue as he absorbed the knockout gas. “Good boy Smiley!” Luffy praised.

Robin acted fast, using her powers to knock everyone down. “Play dead.” It was a perfect plan, the Yeti Cool Brothers got in close, only to be ambushed. The trappers walked into a trap.

They were fast in the snow, but Robin was able to restrict their movements long enough for Luffy and Zoro to bring them down. For added security Usopp used some pop greens to get some plant binding going on. Smiley dissolved their face masks and promptly sprayed them with poison gas, knocking them out for good measure.

“Damn it!” Caeser Clown was pissed. The Yeti Cool Brothers were skilled assassins and yet they were bested so easily. “Of course...it’s because of MY experiment they were defeated so…” This guy was living in a world of his own denial. “I must take it back from Straw Hat Luffy at all cost!”

“Master, are you sure this is wise? The Straw Hats have bested many foes in the past, and while they’ve been gone for two years they’ve surely only gotten stronger.”

Caeser glared at her. “Do you think I can’t handle this brat?”

“I’m only thinking of the best interests of those involved.” Her tone was sweet but her eyes were sharp.

Clown clicked his tongue. He wasn’t gonna ask for help. “No I can use this, a creation that won’t serve me can be used for me.” He chuckled. Watch out he was getting an idea. He had planned to murder Smiley when the time came and that time would be now. For some reason he couldn’t control Smiley so he locked it away. His hope for a living poison weapon that obeyed but he couldn’t get Smiley to act on command.

Still he could harness Smiley’s poison for himself, once it’s been enhanced of course.

“If things get out of hand I’ll have to report to Joker to protect his investments.” Caeser whipped around on her.

“JOKER…” He glared at her but she didn’t flinch. “Humph, I AM his investment, so long as you protect me he has nothing to be worried about. I’ll keep making the SMILE fruits for Kaido as agreed, and any other weapons he so desires!”

She smiled. “Of course, but Joker may want to send extra support to insure your protection and the SAD factory. Losing that and Joker will be very...cross with you…”

Clown stepped back, sweat forming on his brow. “It’ll be fine...I have his little friends...we can simply use them as hostages…”

“Master we have a report!”

“Hm?”

“The other straw hats they’ve escaped.”

“How?” He rushed over and brought up the security footage. The crew consisting of Sanji, Franky, Chopper, and Nami had found the Samurai Head, played with it a bit swapping parts around before Franky used the laser to blast out of the room. “Damn it!”

“There’s more, they entered the biscuit room and have taken the children.”

“What?!”

“They are escaping as we speak!”

“No!” Caeser hissed.

“Problem?” Monet asked.

“Ugh very well, the straw hats I can and WILL deal with on my own but I don’t trust Law and with the Marines at my door things might be spiraling out of control.” He looked at her. “You’ll handle this won’t you?”

“They are the G-5 I know just who to contact to help clean up this mess.” She left.

Clown got in touch with Brownbeard and demanded he not let Straw Hat Luffy’s group escape.

While Law had confronted Smoker and the G-5 Marines. Luffy and his team were taking another side trip since they had time. Brook recognized the legs from the Torso attacking him and they followed a path to it. It had fallen into the water and Zoro was able to fish him out.

Luffy lost his hind legs, but the figure was pleased to mostly have his body back in one piece again. “Thank you pu-”

“You can make it up to me later by having a spar with me.” Zoro said, noting the man’s swords. He shook off the water and got back into the nice warm coat.

“How is the body talking without a head!!!” Usopp screamed.

“It’s really funny and cool!” Luffy said. “Let’s go find Sanji and the others, they can meet Smiley.” The slime cooed.

Usopp’s jaw dropped. “What is with this, that thing isn’t really joining us is it?” No one answered his negative frustrations.

Luffy talked to Smiley, telling him about things about being a pirate, about freedom, about his goal of becoming King of the Pirates. ‘I can’t believe he’s bonding with some stupid goo.’ Smiley shot Usopp a look. ‘Can he read minds?’

No he was just responding to his negativity. They say animals respond to negative emotions and fear.

“Hold it!” Brownbeard attacked. “That ooze belongs to the Master, you’ll be handing it over!”

He attacked, but that didn’t go well. Brownbeard got his ass kicked and the gator-tuar had to carry the crew forward.

They were making their way towards the lab just in time to see Law fight the marines. Law had tried to demand they leave, as he was one of the 7 Warlords he had protection and authority. Which might have worked against a lot of marines but not Smoker who actively hated the warlord system and saw the shenanigans that happened with Crocodile first hand.

Law tried to claim he was the only one here, and then came the Straw Hats. Sanji, Nami, Franky, and Chopper coming out of the hall with a bunch of kids of various size. “What is this, explain yourself Trafalgar Law!?”

“Room!”

With Law’s Devil Fruit he was making short work of them, wrecking their ship, taking all their transponder snails, slicing up the men and mixing up their parts. Smoker tried to take him down, as a Logia he was a lot more tricky, turning into smoke and spreading himself out. He had honed up his haki skills in the last two years, plus he had his jute which had sea prism stone in it.

Law sensed the danger of the sea prism and avoided getting pinned. Tashigi butted in, and Law took her down, cutting her in half. “Tashigi!” Smoker called out.

“You let your guard down.” Smoker got his heart snatched and was taken down. To make matters more complicated thanks to laws special surgery he swapped his and Tashigi’s souls. For insurance he did the same to Sanji, Chopper, Franky, and Nami.

The marines were forced to retreat, Smoker had lost his heart, and the personalities of the two had been swapped. Sanji’s group had slipped away with the kids, though not as they were before.

Luffy showed up and the place was a mess. He saw Traflagar Law. “Oh hey it’s Traffy!” The man had helped him out during Marineford and treated his injuries after. “Let’s go say hi!” He told Smiley.

“Luffy!?” Usopp gasped. The rubber boy was already racing over to meet the man.

“What is he doing here?” Robin wondered.

“Oh great another weirdo can this get any worse!” Usopp wailed.

Luffy approached Law and Smiley was a bit nervous, he could sense this man was powerful and dangerous. “Easy buddy!” Luffy said calmly.

“What is that?” Law asked.

“Dunno really picked him up on the island his name is Smiley, cool huh?”

“Another secret Caeser was keeping from me.” First the kids, now this creature, he knew he shouldn’t trust a man like Caeser Clown. He looked into Luffy’s eyes and saw pure innocence looking back. He always thought Monkey D. Luffy was interesting, a man with a D in his name took special interest, but it was the smile in his wanted poster that really caught Law’s attention. Meeting him he got to see if the boy was true or not and Luffy didn’t disappoint.

Be it by luck or by fate Luffy had the qualities Law admired and respected, and that hadn’t changed. “You’ll find what you are looking for there, we’ll talk soon.”

“Sure, thanks again!”

“Don’t thank me I also have things I wish to take back.”

“Hm? Okay!” They left, with Brownbeard still giving them a lift. Luffy could see the marines, seeing Smoker and Tashigi all messed up. “Looks like Traffy didn’t hold back on them, makes sense though, but hope they are okay.”

The G-5 wanted to attack Luffy and the group but couldn’t risk a confrontation given the state of everything.

The kids were shivering from their state of dress and the wicked cold weather. Kin’emon the samurai had a trick up his sleeve, even if he was only a head. He had everyone put an object on their head. “Garb Garb Jutsu!” Poof!

In a flash or more so a cloud of smoke all the kids and strawhats were given full on winter gear, coats, gloves, boots. “Don’t take them off or they’ll go back to the objects before.” He explained. Kin’emon had eaten as he put it a “strange fruit” and gained this power, but he didn’t understand the term Devil Fruit when mentioned.

The Straw Hats were dealing with the fall out of Law’s own little spell. Nami was in Franky’s body, Chopper was in Sanji’s body, Franky was in Chopper’s body, and Sanji was in Nami’s body. A whole mess to be sure.

When Luffy and the crew arrived the crazy just exploded.

Kin’emon was put back together again. “Aww man, I’m gonna miss being a centuar!”

“Get over it, you weren’t a centaur!” Usopp bellowed.

Smiley hissed at him.

Things were weird, Robin didn’t like Franky in Chopper’s body, Sanji was getting too horny in Nami’s body, Chopper’s sweet nature was weird coming out of Sanji’s body. Nami in Franky’s body was ready to murder Sanji even if it meant destroying her own body, so for now she started wracking up Sanji’s fines.

If they thought the crazy was just for them the marines were dealing with equal madness. Tashigi in Smoker’s body, and Smoker in Tashigi’s body, it was as wild as it sounded.

They sat down and got things in order. Kin’emon had been the one attacking Brownbeard’s men, which was the distress call the picked up. “I won’t apologize, I was looking for my son Momonosuke.” The kids confirmed there were others but they were mostly kept separated. Law had used his powers and turned into a puzzle of a man, his pieces got split up and lost. “Ohh it feels good to be whole again!” He bowed his head. “I am in your debt!”

As a samurai he couldn’t turn a blind eye to children in peril. Not only was his son in danger, but these other kids were as well. Brownbeard was confused and tried to claim the Master only had the best of intentions. He claimed the children were very sick and needed help. Usopp bought into the story, but Nami didn’t like it. The men came and took the children without even saying anything to the parents about it, something did add up. Chopper examined them and found no, they weren’t sick at all, he wasn’t just upset, in fact, he was furious.

The crocodile man refused to believe it, he saw Caeser Clown as his savior, after they had been poisoned by Vegapunk’s weapon, Caeser came and saved them all. Law was their second savior he used his powers to remove their damaged legs and give them new limbs and restored their ability to walk. “So Traffy made you centaurs how cool!”

What Brownbeard didn’t know was that the weapon in question was right there in the room. It hadn’t been Vegapunk’s weapon but Caeser’s. He blamed Vegapunk for the incident and played savior to get control of Brownbeard and his men. Caeser had no qualms with human experimentation and he often drugged Brownbeard’s own men and used them as guinea pigs. The poison gas that once played the island was made into an ooze and fed a devil fruit and badaboom we got Smiley.

Law wasn’t happy with Caeser holding these secret experiments. “It didn’t concern you.”

“You asked me to get rid of the marines, and then those kids showed up and now they are gonna be even more of a problem now.”

“Tch, why are you whining you are a warlord aren’t you?” Law glared at him. “Come now our arrangement has been beneficial hasn’t it?”

Trafalgar looked at Caeser. ‘This man is poison…’ He’d seen and heard how the men worship him calling him Master and their savior. Caeser had poisoned their minds with kindness, painted himself as a savior. Law could see him for what he was, he used his words and actions to infect people with his poison weaken them and make them vulnerable. Even without his devil fruit he’d still be toxic.

Law knew the man had ties to another emperor, he made “friends” with a lot of powerful people to protect himself, but even his deals were poison. The man poisoned his own business with his greed and debauchery. Law went in knowing this, but he’d prepared for betrayal, he’s known betrayal and cruelty since he was young very few people in this world made him feel safe.

“Can you handle him...Straw Hat Luffy?”

“I’ll handle it, but I expect compensation for all this trouble.”

“Fine, fine!” He waved his hand dismissively.

To be continued...Law’s Plan

Law has a plan to mess with and start a fight with one of the Four Emperors. He offers Luffy an alliance which is complicated since pirates betray each other but Luffy isn’t concerned. They form an alliance despite Usopp’s protests. He fixes the crew and they move onto the next phase of his plan. Nami wants to rescue the rest of the kids and Kin’emon agrees. Luffy has Chopper go with Law and even sends Smiley to help, it slips into a lab and starts feast on Caeser’s stuff.
