JESSE!

Martin

To me in breaking bad Pink means innocence, and Purple means status and ambition (but mostly marie). It suits marie because she feels herself to be high status

s0l0 !

walt has mentioned or alluded to multiple times that if Gus kills Jesse, then he won't have walt so that one big reason Gus wouldn't kill Jesse. also, I personally think the show wouldn't have been the same without the iconic walt and Jesse duo, like y'all said before that's what the show is really about. I just find it interesting that y'all don't at least feel a little bad about Jesse's situation and aren't intrigued at all to how his storyline will progress.

Sean Carroll

when i first watched this show, i imagined the show was written in a way that Walter was the good man who became evil and jesse was the bad man who became good. As I mentioned yesterday season 4 has a slow start, I felt that too, but it is all building towards something fantastic in its second half and season 5 is a masterpiece

Tentomushi

It was nice seeing Walter en Skylar being likeminded for once

Theo Sebuliba

Jesse’s story is very complicated, i think killing him off now would hurt the story going forward. I think they’re cooking something up for Jesse going forward. I do like how Jesse hasn’t gotten over killing gale. It’s messed with him psychologically and it’s going to take time for him to get back on his feet

Tia

Yes, I think it shows the goodness in Jesse. After Walt’s first kill, he got over it quickly. Jesse is mentally damaged from it and although it’s because he did something very wrong, it shows his humanity. That’s important for his character. Someone said before Walt is a bad guy pretending to be good, Jesse is a good guy pretending to be bad. We gotta remember Jesse was blackmailed into joining Walt in the first place. Lol

Mark

It's 100 percent organic to the storyline to keep Jesse and you'll see why. Let the story unfold. I think you guys will understand better once the story goes forward. As someone who has been around addicts my entire life I guess I understand and relate more to their mindset. It's frustrating but they aren't bad people. I think yall underestimate the hold Walter has on Jesse and how badly killing Gale hurt him.

Theo Sebuliba

Right Jesse isn’t a killer like Walt is, he didn’t even want to kill those 2 junkies in season 2 when they stole the meth from him, so it makes sense that he’s mentally damaged from killing gale

Michael Maneese

To your point about Jesse still being alive, I think Gus would have already killed him irl, even before the Gale incident. Yeah Walt says he wont cook without Jesse, but that's just a bluff. As long as Walt has a family, he can be leveraged, so Jesse isn't really the bulletproof bargaining chip he's made out to be.

Tia

Yes exactly. I have much sympathy for that. Addiction is a disease. It does NOT make a person bad. I read the actor Matthew Perry’s book about his addiction struggles before he died and it was so hard on him. Addiction hasn’t personally affected me, but I understand those who are.

Cathy Sullivan

I read that Jesse was supposed to be killed off earlier in the series but the dynamic between Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston was so good that the writers made him a permanent character. I also think that Gus respected Jesse for speaking up about the use of kids to sell drugs. There are some slower episodes this season but they’re all necessary to building a powerful story. Will you be watching Better Call Saul eventually? It’s a slower series but brilliant in character development and writing.

Ravi

When I was watching the show, I thought it would have been organic for Walt to simply dump Jesse back in Season 3. And yes, it is annoying to see his story going in circles sometimes. But as I watched more of the show, I realized why Heisenberg/Walt kept him around. Walt knows that without Jesse he probably can't survive in the drug world. No matter how friendly Gus and Gale seemed at the start, they can get rid of Walt at a moment's notice. Jesse has massive problems, but he is someone Walt can trust (and even manipulate) in a world where nobody else can be trusted.

Dalton

Don’t worry, things pick up with Jesse. Totally out of left field but he ends up getting abducted by blue aliens that want the blue product. It takes time but he convinces Walt that he’s not lying. Walt refuses to bow to the aliens so he and Gus mend fences to fight a common enemy. Jesse unfortunately gets caught up in the middle of this mess. I won’t say any more as to not spoil it for you but it gets CRAZY. Oh and the aliens end up hiring Saul to represent them in intergalactic court. You won’t believe what happens next!

Really enjoyed both of your points of view on YouTube, so I decided to join here. 👍 You made a statement about them being good with the money until they bought a new house. But buying the house was a flashback with Walt & Skylar. They were not spending any of the money. It was just to show background about the house purchase back when they were planning the beginning of the family. :) The show does do flashbacks often, so it is important to pay attention to if Walt has hair or not. That gives away a flashback most of the time. 👍 Keep these BrBa reactions coming! My fav series of all-time too!

Jordan

Jesse definitely has a good arc through the entire show. He's a complicated character but I think one of the reasons for having Jesse is to have a character that is going through addiction. With a show that focuses so much on drugs, it's good to have a main character who is struggling with addiction. His storyline might be a little repetitive at times but I think that's accurate when compared to the life of an addict trying to break their addiction. Every bad thing that happens to Jesse only sends him back further and he becomes even more addicted.

Tia

It’s lowkey disappointing but I understand everyone won’t always have the same opinion

Dccomicfan

The actor who played gale was in the Lincoln movie

Simon

Let’s gooo

Joshua Johnson

You guys have no idea what a ride you’re in for lol you are about to find out why this show is goat status lol

Simon

It’s not that Jesse has so much money he doesn’t know what to do with it, it’s Jessie killed someone and he doesn’t know what to do with himself, he’s devastated and doesn’t wanna be alone

Simon

Great reaction y’all🔥

DKThunder

Hmmm, at this point in the story on my first watch, I was more focused on how killing Gale affected Jesse. (I also personally believed he wouldn't have done it if it would only have saved himself. Saving Walt seems to me to be the driving force). That is to say, I was too distracted with that to think that it's weird Jesse is still alive. Narratively he was in limbo, so I just expected him to have plot relevance soon enough. On a rewatch, I didn't realize this period lasted as many episodes as it did for Jesse.

Martin

"It would hurt the overall big picture if he dies" guys come one, I know you want to talk about what's to come, but please try not to. I know you are not being specific. But now they think Jesse is bulletproof. No tension in any scenes where Jesse is at risk.

Martin

please stop talking about later episodes. Stop saying that character X is important later.

Mark

Think your being a bit tough on them man. They are just trying to broach the subject Vince and Shoshanna brought up. Your responses are worse than the initial comments.

Martin

I added a please. Let's talk about past episodes not future stuff

Martin

Because there are many scenes where characters lives are at stake, so if they've been told that they're important next season, or whatever variation, they know that the character is safe. You've just told them that Jesse is in the entire show.

Jordan

I never said he lived through the whole show. This arc through the entire show could still mean he dies at end of season 4 or halfway thru season 5. That’s his arc though the entire show. I don’t think it’s a spoiler at all saying someone has a good arc.

Martin

You are suggesting there is more to come from Jesse. "Jesse definitely has a good arc through the entire show."

Jordan

that’s not a spoiler at all. Jessie is literally the 2nd main character in the show. That’s like saying “there is more to come from Walt” Of course there’s more to come. I want them to enjoy the show too so I’m always careful not to spoil anything. I really don’t think i am here

Dalton

I wasn’t trying to be tough on them at all. I was just making a silly comment lol.

Neville L

I think most would agree that this show does not have any forced plots--Jesse is here for a reason. What we're meant to see in these early S4 episodes is how profoundly killing Gale affected Jesse, though I can see how you'd think he's going in circles, which is sort of the point. That's what addiction and grief are: going in circles. Addicts are not bad people, and this show offers a realistic depiction of how grief and trauma can push you back into substance abuse. That's a huge part of Breaking Bad's underlying message when it comes to his character.

Martin

You've changed from "thats not what I said" to "I said it but it's okay". You've changed from "it doesn't mean Jesse will live" to "it's obvious jesse will live anyway". Better just to discuss what has come, rather than make them feel excited about what is to come

Terry

The thing about Jesse is a really great point, I think a good angle to look at it is Walt and Jesse’s relationship. Why is Walt always so desperate and passionate about keeping Jesse as a partner? Their partnership that has lasted pretty much the entire show is one of the more intriguing things about Breaking Bad.

Croix

The first half of the season doesn’t seem great, but they are building up the plot for the rest of the show. Once you get to about episode 8/9 things get crazy good

Tia

I may be one of the few that never had an issue with the pacing of this show, I thought everything was timed and developed nicely

Croix

I don’t have a problem with it personally. I just hope they don’t give up on the show based on how slow it feels right now.

Tia

Yeah I’d hope not, that’s way too quick to give up on a show, especially one that’s considered one of the best of all time

Insert Opinion

Purple ≠ innocence idk who told yall that

Mark

All good man. Were both Breaking Bad brothers ☺

Mitchell Smilie

You're three episodes into a 13-episode season so don't worry about the pacing yet. And Jesse's story is one of addiction. I'm guessing you have never known an addict because, like an addict, spirals are frequent, and frustration is rampant for those that observe and care for the addict. It's scary sometimes how accurate the depictions of drug addiction and drug users are in this show. I was fortunately never an addict, but I knew family and friends that fell into that world, and it's something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

Yess... Cuban B

Sometimes I love Skylar, and sometimes I hate her... In this episode... I DEFINITELY love her.

Yess... Cuban B

The "getting squeezed through the chain-linked fence" discourse is wild though.

TyPan

How? She is a selfish control freak who cannot trust a guy with experience in money laundering to actually do the money laundering. Skyler is the most hated person on this show and this episode is a prime example of why.

ChrnikZ

Bruh where’s the rest of the episodes for both last seasons
