In reality, that mini-gun had to be stripped down for Ventura to even lift it. It also had to be mechanically slowed down in firing rate, or it would go out of his control. If you look closely in one scene, he is trailing the cables that linked the gun to the batteries needed to fire it out of camera view.

Bill Duke said in an interview about the "Contact!" scene that holding down the trigger on the mini gun was insane because even though it was stripped, slowed, & shot blanks, it almost knocked him on his ass because of the kickback. Bill Duke is a huge guy too.

The reason why the predator was collecting the skulls were for two reasons one was to be used as a trophy and the other reason was for the dna of the skull to create a better version of the predator species
