Chapter 11 - Filler
~ Nicholas POV ~
What was up with me getting attacked wherever I went? I’m pretty sure my luck is supposed to be my greatest asset. Now I’m starting to doubt the fact whether or not my stats are actually true or not.
Dodging another energy blast from the now known, Cleria Belial, a member of the Belial Clan and overseer of this town, I contemplated my next course of action. I could of course take care of things here and simply leave, but then coming back here might become a little more difficult and I still have a contract to fulfil.
Plus, now that she has seen me, I can’t let her run off back to the Underworld council. If she gives them an accurate description of mine, which shouldn’t be hard for any high-class devil, I will have people looking for me. My eyes draw attention and it’s not the good kind of attention.
“Fight, you damn thing!” the devil lady screamed as she unleashed a particularly strong blast of lightning that I could have easily avoided but chose not to. I did not wish to waste any more time on this matter. I had better things to do in the lab. I also needed to check on Natasha. Leaving her alone with Kuroka or Vali might not have been such a good idea. Especially if grandmother wasn’t there to supervise them.
“Thing? I thought a devil from a noble family was supposed to be ladylike and graceful?” I said, smirking at the clear irritation at her face. Taunting people mid fight was supposed to be a bad habit, but I couldn’t help but enjoy the way I annoyed people. It must be a family thing.
Jumping back, I decided to move first this time and pushed my hand outward, a miniature magic circle on the surface of my palm, unleashing a blazing torrent of red, hot flames. It was a pretty basic attack that any high-class devil could withstand, but I wanted to discern her abilities. Till now, she had only used basic magic against me and as someone from pillar clan, she must have inherited some kind of ability. I wanted to figure out what it was.
Wait… what was the Belial Clan’s power?
I got my answer a few seconds later when the attack I had fired upon her, pun intended, fizzled out of existence. Poof. Disappeared in thin air.
The fuck was that?
‘Aura, you saw that right? This isn’t some kind of illusion?’ I confirmed with my assistant, sending out a pulse of magic to break any kind of spell that might have trapped me in an illusion.
‘No Master, it’s as real as it can be. Since you have forgotten the lessons, Lady Lilith instilled in your head allow me to remind you. The Belial clan’s ability is called Worthless. Worthless is a demonic power exclusive to those carrying the blood of the Belial clan. It allows the user to invalidate things, such as special abilities, properties or effects. Depending on how much they understand the characteristics of the particular ability, they might be able to negate them completely or partially.’
‘Hmm, how troublesome,’ I thought, dodging another lightning strike from the smug looking lady in front of me.
“Where is that sass now, asshole?” she asked, blasting multiple bolts of lightning towards me at once.
Well, I guess since normal magic doesn’t work against her, let’s go for a more… primal fighting style.
Getting into stance, I steadied my body as I squared against my opponent. Since this lady could erase my forms of magic and I did not wish to reveal my true lineage, I decided to go for a simplistic approach to this problem. Let’s see how my physical stats come up against her.
I flexed my fists, grounding myself in the certainty that this would be a clash of good, old’ brawn against magic.
Her eyes gleamed with the luminance of her magical prowess, and I braced myself as lightning crackled around her. She made the first move, once again shooting lightning bolts towards me. This time however, the number of bolts were much higher than our previous entanglements and the power behind them had reached borderline ultimate-class in strength. It seems like she was finally taking this seriously. I dodged with amazing agility, relying on my speed and flexibility to evade the magical onslaught.
Ygris had drilled the importance of speed in my mind during our lessons. Lucifer, while amazing at using magic, could not be called the greatest physical fighter in the supernatural world and that had proved to be fatal for him. I was not going to make that same mistake.
With a swift motion, I lunged forward, propelled by the sheer force of my legs. My opponent responded in kind, conjuring a massive magical circle to meet my charge, which acted as a barrier against my attack. As my fists collided with the mystical shield, I felt a shockwave reverberate through my bones.
Undeterred, I pivoted, unleashing a barrage of punches. Each blow full of my brute strength, a testament to the sheer force and muscle that had been honed through relentless training. Cracks had formed on the surface of the barrier and with a final punch, it shattered in front of my eyes. Cleria however, had not stayed idle during my onslaught. Another magical circle came to life in front of her, blasting me with a dangerous amount of fire magic.
Fortunately for me, and unfortunately for her, my durability was beyond the strength her attack carried allowing me to easily move through the flames and surprise her with a kick to her midsection, sending her flying back into the woods.
Steadying herself with her wings, she came back with a vengeance, forming multiple magic circles around her, this time releasing multiple forms of magic at once. Elemental magic of all kind, made its way towards me.
I grunted, channelling the strength from deep within. With a powerful sweep of my arms, I generated a massive, focused explosion of pure mana that dispersed her magical defences. For a moment, she staggered, the weave of her spells momentarily disrupted. It was my opening, a brief window to exploit her vulnerability.
Closing the distance between us, I delivered a thunderous uppercut. The impact reverberated through the air, and I felt the resistance of her magical shield shatter like glass. She staggered backward, taking a knee as her entire body felt the shock of my punch. I was holding back since I did not wish to destroy the area and alert the other devils about my location, but not so much that I would lose.
Conjuring chains using DRoM (Demonic Radiance of the Morningstar), I bound her to the surface, sucking away at her magic, leaving her defenceless against me. I know for a fact that no matter how skilled she might be with her 'Worthless' ability, she would not be able to tackle this.
"Now, let's talk like civil, educated devils," I said, conjuring a seat for myself as I stared down at the bound lady in front of me giving me the stink eye.
"I have nothing to say to a stray. If you are going to kill me, do it now. Or is this part of some sick fantasy of yours," she said, putting on a brave face but the fear and hesitation was quite clear in her eyes.
"First off, I am not a stray. My name is Nicholas and like you, I am a devil. Born and raised in the Underworld. I was here for a contract when you decided to attack me for no reason," I said, revealing the truth of why I was here. It didn't matter if she knew or not. If i felt like she was going to tattle, I will just erase her memory after this.
“And why should I believe anything you say? I don’t see a magic circle or a family crest on you, and everyone knows no noble heir leaves the Underworld without it so please try your weak excuses on some other dumb devil,” she says, with a very unladylike snort.
Sighing, I decided to speed this along and hit her with a mind-altering charm. Nothing to drastic just one to cause enough confusion in her mind to let me leave here and come back whenever I please. Oh and to not inform any higher ups.
“Ms Belial, I do belong to a noble family and it seems this evidence should suffice. Now, I am expected elsewhere so I will be taking my leave. I shall see you next time when I am here to fulfil my contract,” I said and decided to excuse myself from here. Not before leaving a few tracking charms and alerts on her. You never know when someone could be needed as an ally or a scapegoat.
And with that I left.
…
Why did it feel like I was forgetting something?
Eh, it’s probably nothing. If I forgot it then maybe it wasn’t important.
~ Third Person POV, After Nicholas Left ~
Cleria felt weak. Maybe the cuffs that the devil in front of her had used were sapping her strength but she felt strangely disoriented and found it damn hard to stay focused.
She heard him say that he’ll be back and it seems like he really was a noble devil, before he disappeared in a magic circle. She couldn’t see the crest on it but that was due to the blinding light emanating from it and the fact her eyes were drooping. A sleeping spell perhaps. Anyways, she couldn’t let the fact she was taken down so easily by a devil so young get out of here. Her brother was becoming a top figure in the rating games. This could damage the family reputation.
So, she would stay quiet. But she would beat him next time.
Wait, he forgot to untie her. How was she supposed to leave now?
Crap!
~ Time skip, Lucifer Estate ~
The arena buzzed with the energy of anticipation as Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, prepared to spar with Ygris, the magical automation knight. Ygris, stood menacingly in his blood red armour, wielding a greatsword with an otherworldly gleam. Natasha tightened her grip on her sacred gear, the guns being ready at her sides to blast holes through the estate guard.
"Alright, I have restricted Ygris' strength to Mid-Class levels. We'll continue this type of training till you get to the upper ranks of High-Class," Nicholas said, standing at the side watching the spar. He decided to do this to get an idea of Nat's strength levels and how to improve the guns he had given to her.
"And go!" The sparring match began with a measured exchange. Ygris advanced with calculated strikes, his greatsword dancing through the air. Natasha, agile and elusive, dodged his attacks with feline grace. Her sacred gear responded to her every command, firing bursts of magical energy that Ygris skilfully deflected. The arena witnessed a dance of combat styles—traditional swordsmanship against a blend of magical prowess and hand-to-hand combat. Ygris, a master swordsman, adapted to Natasha's unpredictable movements, making Nicholas note that Ygris had the ability to adapt to combat styles at a very high speed. Maybe he had a mechanism built in that he could replicate for a scouter style sacred gear. As the sparring match continued, Ygris gradually gained the upper hand. Which wasn't unexpected. Natasha had only been a devil for a week at most and was still getting adapted to the lifestyle and the magical reserves he had forcefully opened up after he turned her into a devil. It was simple. He just had to get Lilith to push Celestial energy in her body and then he had to drain it out carefully.
His greatsword, guided by precision and strength, began to overpower Natasha's defences. Sparks flew as steel clashed with the ground with Natasha once again dodging the massive swing of the sword while retaliating with her own moves. She was trying to use the guns as much as possible as that was the main goal of the spar. To find places to improve in the sacred gear. Ygris unleashed a flurry of strikes, each blow pushing Natasha further back as she continued dodging. Even though the guns needed only a split second to charge up and fire, the speed of the knight was too great for her at the moment.
In a strategic move, Ygris infused his greatsword with his innate magic, embers of magic licking along the blade, extending the length of the blade. The added challenge forced Natasha to adapt, evading not only the steel but the new found reach of Ygris' enchanted attacks. Natasha, recognizing the need for a shift in strategy, transitioned seamlessly. Waiting for the right moment, she put her plan into action. She decided to jump right on top of Ygris' blade when it struck the ground in front of her, before loading her guns up and firing a massive magical blast right into the knight's face.
While Ygris did successfully avoid the major chunk of blast, he couldn't entirely get out of the way and was sent sprawling to his right, but experience does play a part and he quickly got his bearing. Now, something Natasha didn't know was that Ygris could summon his sword back into his hands, like another god she knew, and ended up falling of the might sword as it found its way back to its owner. Ygris, seeing an opening, capitalized on Natasha's momentary vulnerability. He swung his sword horizontally and a massive energy blast followed the trajectory of the blade. Natasha, seeing the attack rapidly making its way towards her tried to dodge, but her endurance was at its limit and she realized she would def get hit by it. Fortunately for her, the attack disappeared before it could reach her and she knew the reason why,
Nicholas stood with his hand outstretched, a few wisps of his magic still flickering around his palm and fingers.
"That's enough for now," Nicholas said, walking towards her as he dictated Ygris to stop, who dutifully followed his command. He stood in front of her and picked her up in his arms as he began leading her towards where Kuroka was. She was the one in charge of healing everyone after spars. Nicholas wanted her to work on her healing prowess, something Youkai had a natural affinity for.
"Well, you can definitely take on a Mid-Class devil with those guns. From my assessment, you need more variety when it comes to your Sacred Gear so I am thinking I'll put in a transform feature in it. That way you can turn it into a shield or whatever weapon you want when necessary. Other than that, I guess congratulations are in order, you did far better than what anyone could have expected," Nicholas said as he reached Kuroka's room while Nat listened to him. She had to admit, he was ridiculously handsome and quite smart as well.
No wonder Lucifer was the embodiment of temptation.
"Here's your patient for the night," Nicholas said as he laid Nat down on the couch in front of Kuroka.
"Hmm, why do you always exhaust the people you set up spars for, nya~?" Kuroka said with a pout. "The machine is never getting tired and always ends up with some kind of accident."
"Well, there were no accidents today. I just pushed her to her limits which she didn't mind, right Nat?" Nicholas said with a smile to which Natasha simply shrugged. She was a Black Widow. This wasn't the first time she had been trained to exhaustion. It was her first as a devil but still.
"Now, I have work to do, I will see you at dinner," and with that he marched right out to go diddle in his lab.
"You know if you want to seduce him Lilith can help you, nya," Kuroka said as her palm glowed gold and Natasha felt more relaxed than ever before.
Startled, Nat looked at the catgirl and saw her smirk while wiggling her eyebrows.
"All of us can see it’s been a while for you and instead of rubbing one out why don't you just go for it, nya! All of us do it too. No reason you can't. You're devil now. Sin is your lifestyle, nya~"
Caught in a rock and hard place, Nat just decided to say, “I’ll think about it,” so the cat would shut up.
“Ohhh, I will take you shopping, nya! Nic loves lingerie. Especially when its lace or leather and you know he does this thing where…”
Which of course, she didn’t. This was going to be a long healing session for the former Avenger.
