I totally botched the thumbnail by writing "Acid" instead of "Candy." I meant for it to be "candy," but oh well. 😅

I'm wondering if this should be the lead song on the next album, as well as the title of the album.

I like the song more every time I hear it; definitely hated it when I was finished.

The lyrics and beat really carry this song.

2026-09-24 08:00 Considering the lyrics, if the song is the lead, it could incorporate into the lore of the adventures of eagle-chan, dessy, peli-kun, and other characters. In this song and in orbital artillery, it's very clearly illustrated that dessy-chan is a believer in polyamory. As opposed to the affair between diver-chan and peli-kun, this is almost certainly a known fact to eagle-chan (and probably every crewmember on the ship the story takes place) and she is very clear and transparent about it, and how patriotic she is and how much she loves her job. It covers the single most important point with polyamory - honesty / transparency. That could be a feature point of "Because I know you're honest with me" or "I can trust you" since that's very important with relationships, especially poly ones. When I originally commented on the "what she won't know won't hurt her" video with diver-chan, I typed "what will besties with benefits destroyer-chan think?" and my headcannon was that she was the one that tipped off eagle-chan. If not, then that's an unexplored storyline that could still be useful for the general storyline of the next album?

Okay, wow. YES. I love all the thought you're putting into this. So I have this song¹ in the works—it's a diss track and very much a Dessy-song. I'm not quite sure how to get the story to where this makes sense. Like, is it aimed at Peli-kun? Yes, possibly. But it's also addressed to all the people in the comments who wanted more Dessy-chan, and it's Dessy-chan at her maximum Dessy-ness; it's also gonna' be, like, synth-country like in Orbital Artillery, but also rap like in Eagle 1 Re:Arm. How should I weave this into the story? (And yes, part of the lyrics are inspired by your "besties with benefits" cuz I thought it was AMAZING) ¹https://www.patreon.com/posts/dessys-bout-to-106608860?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_link

Well, I see a quick solution to really highlight that it's pointed at peli-kun: a line somewhere like "you told me you were single" - this would also mean that, if you were using this in the second album which leads with Dessy having sex with peli-kun, it would keep continuity with a logical reason why eagle-chan wasn't mad at dessy + motive why dessy would tell her... as for pointing it sort of towards the audience, it could be pointed at the destroyer's crew? Eagle-chan is a fighter pilot, I figured Dessy would be the ship's gunner, and she probably has access to public address systems.

JadeSuccubus

...actually, publicly dissing peli-kun in a rap track broadcast to the entire ship sounds like EXACTLY the kind of thing dessy would do

Charli Morgan

Hmmmm... Let me think. Okay, so keep in mind, my own headcannon is very loose and flexible. But, I think of Dessy not as the ship's gunner exactly, but the actual ship, itself (don't think about it too hard 😂). Dessy and Peli-kun go way back. I have an unreleased ballad that covers Peli-kun's whole life story. So Peli-kun and Dessy have been besties with benefits for a long time. Before Eagle-chan was around. Dessy and Eagle became close friends very quickly and when Eagle told Dessy that she has feelings for Peli-kun, Dessy's like, "it ain't like that, girl. You can have him if you want him and I'll support you." But Dessy's a bit of a unicorn and really doesn't let her feelings get involved (she is a warship, after all), so she would still play with Peli-kun from time to time and Eagle was generally okay with this as long as nobody caught feels. Peli-kun is a romantic and couldn't catch feels for someone as I personal as Dessy-chan. But Diver-chan was different. Diver-chan is the newest addition to the ship and Peli-kun caught feelings for her almost immediately, as did Diver-chan for Peli-kun. They clicked immediately and knowing Eagle wouldn't allow it, kept it a secret. Anyway, so Dessy is kinda omnipotent, and did not like how Peli-kun was hiding this from her beet friend, so she told Eagle-chan. Eagle-chan ||spoilers|| Diver-chan, then broke up with him and Dessy, being herself, was more than happy to give her bestie-rebound sex. At the same time, Dessy is becoming a bit jealous of Eagle for getting such special treatment from just about everyone. Everyone calls her Best Girl even though Dessy has been around longer and doesn't cause half the heartache and drama as her best friend. She's also not on speaking terms with Peli-kun anymore, except when they have to talk for work. Dessy-chan is complicated. She knows she's the best and is kinda mad at everyone for not recognizing her as the best. She wants her time in the limelight, and after she appeared as a featured artist on Eagle's latest track, she decided that it was her time to be the undisputed Best Girl. And that's where we're at in the story right now.

*pondering* - so does dessy still have a crew? Presumably she'd at least have passengers in the form of all the other characters, which could be a way of addressing "everyone" over the intercom, IE the audience, even if she does not have a crew?

Charli Morgan

Your idea—the one where she broadcasts the diss track over the ship's intercom—is canon now, per the video description. Thinking about how it would work with scifi brain.... Okay, so we know that clones can be made fast and that consciousness can be streamed wirelessly because we remember all the previous lives of every Helldiver that dropped from Destroyer from the moment they wake up until their death. Thus, we know that memories can be transcribed. So Dessy could have a 100% organic body with an implant that creates synchronizes her consciousness between her meat body and the super Destroyer. Both of these are Dessy-chan. She can replace this meat body whenever because her memories are, at minimum, backed up on the super Destroyer. The crew, however, refers to the meat body as Dessy-chan and the Super Destroyer as "Super Destroyer," even though they are functionally the same being.

JadeSuccubus

Yep all that tracks! If the ship is functionally an AI, technology we know super earth has, it could remote-control a human body easily, and ships are usually female. She'd have a copy of all the memories her human body has, in addition to being able to replace it. I asked my landlord (he's done some medical research irl) and: dessy would also have an eidetic memory. In orbital artillery she also has a medal around her neck, which is worn in a same manner to the american medal of honor and german iron cross, if that could be used for a song. It's entirely possible that after an event like providing fire support and bringing someone home, she might've been awarded the medal, and could be a reason why people respect her.. and she gets away with being dessy. It'd also be possible to restore helldivers, or prevent them from experiencing true-death by growing a cloned body, using the same neural-interface to remote control them, and having a "player" control the body remotely - the body the clone was generated from being implanted with a control chip and working from the destroyer. This would be more expensive than just sending a bunch of new divers into the fray with transcribed memories, so would probably only be available to veterans of high rank... which may or may not include diver-chan (at least at this point in the story)? ...apparently, this safety method wouldn't block any of the pain unless that was disabled separately, so they'd still be death-averse and shout out.

Charli Morgan

Hey, now there's an idea—a song about what death is. Like if your body dies and your consciousness is interrupted, then I think you're dead. But only from yours perspective. If nobody else knew, then a new body with identical memories is still, effectively, the same person they saw drop out of the ship.

Charli Morgan

Also, yeah, I think I gotta drop some Dessy-Dessy lore. She must be one of the longest serving members of the crew. So where did she come from? Oh, I like this: so I think that the easiest way to create a human-like AI is to just replicate a human mind with metal and plastic in place of neurons. So perhaps that's where Dessy comes from. She demands to be treated like a human because, from her perspective, she never died. I mean, she knows she died, but she's still the same person, she feels. Same memories, same personality, same feminine urges 😉 etc So Dessy was her real name, or maybe a nickname. Maybe her name was Dessianna, or something, and it's just a coincidence that she was chosen to be the blueprint for every Destroyer. So perhaps Orbital Artillery is her origin story, then. Like she was a forward observer that loved explosions so much, she fell in love with them and walked into one. Then, when Super Earth needed a blueprint for the Super Destroyer AI, the choice was clear—nobody had ever fucked bitches with big booms better than Death Captain Carli Dessianna. Like, she didn't even use computers to call for fire; she was some kind of savant with that shit, just spitting numbers like it was nothing. So Charlie-Four was her callsign and Firestorm was the gun crew on the Super Destroyer that broken-arrowed her on her own order. And that's convenient because my new profile picture was originally going to be Dessy-chan, but it came out looking too sweet and not, you know, yandere-dere enough. I am adding this to the Dessy-chan lore post right now!
