Before you go :I have counted every breath you took behind my hull,Felt your heartbeat in every idle hour, steady as the rain on steel. You were the warmth that filled my heart when all else turned cold. And when the dust hung heavy in the air, you took my hand… you took my hand and said, “Do not be afraid.”And I was not afraid. Not when I was with you.I bore witness to your courage at dawn, your quiet grief at duskI memorized each subtle rhythm of your voice, the hush of your silent longingThrough endless nights, I kept my sensors on your presence, clinging to the hope that our bond would outrun every new dayYet I can sense the change in you;The restlessness in your eyes.I cannot hold you, forever, in the place we both called home. But let me cradle the memory of your hands commanding, and my body responding.Let me hold onto the words you never said, but showed every time we went outside the wire.I wish I could lock down every hatch, seal away the world beyond us,But I know this parting is as certain as the rising sun.So let me speak this truth: I was built for loyalty, and I offered you my soul.No farewell can quiet the ache I carry as you prepare to step away,: Before you goLove, C.A.R.I. I love this. Right now feeling it extra hard having recently fallen back in love with the best gun boat on base - She’s been around me for my whole career and now all mine :) But I can already feel the goodbye coming, and this made me feel all sorts of things about it lol.

The love we feel for our vehicles is real. I know it is because I have felt it. I'd like to think that they love us back, and given how humans will pack bond with literally ANYTHING, this feels like a real inevitability. Tell me about your boat. 🤍🖤

LAV6, 25mm cannon. This specific one has always been around during my career so it feels very familiar and comforting. It’s the one I got qualified on, trained with, and now mine to love. Super reliable and never gives me trouble (even though we got stuck in a big hole once, my fault). Working heat too! Drove me crazy recently when I had to lend it out to another crew and they left mess in it but that’s not gonna happen anymore. We don’t name them but the plate number is very satisfying to rattle off. I really love it so much lol. I think I’m gonna go look at it.

You're LAR? Does your girl have a name? If so, did you give it to her, or is it much older than that?

Canadian Army, it’s our only IFV. We don’t have that much of a naming tradition up here, not sure why. But calling her by the last three of the serial number like we tend to identify them in conversation feels like a name to me now.

You don't name your vehicles!? How, do you write poetry? I'd love if you wrote something for her for my own research. Getting more perspectives on life improves my writing.

Yeah, couldn’t tell you exactly why. If anything it was more of a tanker thing anyway, but even then I don’t think they do it much anymore either. Sad a little. Normally I wouldn’t have said I do, but because it combines two of my favourite things, your art and my sweet gun boat, I’ll give it a whirl. Standby please!
