Well, the "animator" who said they'll help with one of my songs for a very low price is a scammer, I'm like 90% sure, so that's $500 gone. Better than $3500, but yeah, fucking god damn asshole.And then someone who was supposed to do the Dessy-chan piece definitely disappeared after a sketch, so that's $300 gone.Feels bad, man. 😔Update!PayPal refunded me for the obvious scammer immediately!I have a feeling that the one with $300 is a legit artist, but I also think that I won't get my drawing in a useful timeframe.

I have. I really think they're a real artist and their work is beautiful, but...yeah, I can't just do nothing when there are literally thousands of artists who would kill for this job, you know?

Even legit artists can scam, if they aren't maintaining contact or won't hit the deadline, have them give you a refund, and if they refuse dispute it

Pretty sure scam implies intent to deceive. A legit artist who can’t deliver what they promised isn’t a scammer they are just unreliable. Still should go for a refund or dispute though.

Yeah, I sent a message to the mods of r/commissions asking if they want me to report it or whatever, but I got my money back so I'm happy. 😊

If you like, I can reach out to a few artists I know well, some that I have commissioned recently that delivered in good time, and DM you their discord names or VGen pages. Also consider browsing VGen for artists, you'll find many that focus on assets for streamers and vTubers but most of them do character porttrait/landscape as well.

No, no thank you. I'm very particular with artists; I get like five dozen of applications every time I make a hiring post on reddit and I end up messaging 2–3 max bc most of them don't appeal to me.
