New Lyrics

Better lyrics, now, I think. What I did was kind of, idk, make it more of a protest song. Like I used science and shit. More call and response, more memes, and I made some language more accessible while making sure that you won't really get the song without learning more about the 1920s, the Gilded Age, the Robber Barons, and Hobo culture.

I remember getting a comment on LGL that was like "this is kind of a protest song," and I didn't get that at all, which is funny, considering that my genre—as self-identified—is "hyperpunk," and all classic punk [UK/USA 1974–1984] is necessarily a protest. Thus, this is necessarily the most authentically punk song I will have ever made, per my own judgement.

Anyway, I'll leave ya'll with one of my favorite punk songs to listen to. To, like, set the tone before reading the lyrics. White Riot by The Clash.

[Verse]In the deadfall’s place, where the yeggs all bunch,Mi Auntie storms in with a haymaker punch. An' she'll raise wire—“Hey, guns, ropers, hooks!Mob up the push; it's the Devil we'll book!”

[Chorus]"Kick ’em, crack ’em, split the dull bean!"Boot to the knob till the red runs clean!"Push for the push," United We Stand—Smash the graft-house with the serf's right hand!

[Verse]From stew to the dive, all the office burns hot (hey!)Sap in the mitt with persuaders we've got (ho!)No lone stall drifts when the pack hits the pave;We bunch—we are wolves!—on an ice-cold grave.

[Chorus]"Kick ’em, crack ’em, split the dull bean!" (hey!)It's "Boot to the knob" till the red runs clean! (ho!)"Push for the push," United We Stand—We service the list cuz they poisoned our land.

[Bridge 1]“Hold the deadfall!” she pipes in gun-moll,“Keep the kids clear of the Mad King's claw.Set a good kick in the gutter’s raw law—They don't talk so tough with no tooth in the jaw.”

[Bridge 2]The bulls git the shiddz and the badges turn coat,Domes stove in, put their brains in a croak. An' Auntie, she laughs, "'Been time comin';The law of the land is the order of dozens!"

[Chorus]Kick ’em, crack ’em, split the dull bean!Put boot to the knob till the rivers run clean!Push for the push, United We Stand—Auntie forever—this is our land.

[Outro]Kick ’em, crack ’em, split the dull bean! (hey!)It's "boot to the knob till the red runs clean!" (ho!)Push for the push, United We Stand—Auntie forever—this is our land.

Honestly, posting this was a bit nerve-wracking, so any positive comments at all would be deeply appreciated because I am a brown woman and there could be real physical consequences for me because of this.

RitalinGamer

Unspeakably based. Our generation needs its Joan Baez. This could get some traction and be an anthem.

💜💜💜 Now is not the time for fear. Now is the time for punk rock!

pitterpatter

A call to action in a time of need is never wrong. This is good stuff.

Speaking of CTAS, 52,000 seats are up for election on the 4th. I expect each and every one of you to show up and vote for not detaining people for being brown. Sincerely, Brown Woman Who Values Her Citizenship And Freedom

Ben Welch

This I great, no notes. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Excellent stuff.

There is a very loud pop that, obviously, only I can hear for some reason, and I have it on good authority that none of ya'll would notice or care, anyway, so here we go. Draft 1. :)

You are and have been a real punk rocker 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ This song is something special though, and you've definitely taken it to the next level with it. It's been playing on repeat so far while I work ok things. Its such a vibe and you did fucking amazing on it Charli, can't wait to see how it progresses. 💚🤍

Laughingskull

Lighter on the vocals than I was expecting but solid, def keen to hear you cut loose on the fury sometime with lyrics like this

Laughingskull

In genre i can't think of one but there is i hate rich cunts by mudrat.

Tho if you want some inspiration on a more bitchy (complementary) style there is the bandy leggz songs from mad world and max anarchy

Dazlarus

Harmonica is just *chef's kiss* an excellent way to tie punk to folk. Both the mediums of resistance

Dazlarus

The entire song for sure! I instantly picked up on the 20's and 30's vibe in the vocals and general instrumentation. The clapping, stomping, and harmonica is big Appalachian folk to me, another major center of resistance in the labor movement. Also feels inspired by the pre-punk anthems from European labor struggles. Overall excellent resistance song and perfect for the times we are living in

Charli Morgan

Yes! You're picking up on just about everything! It kind of started out very Irish-sounding, but I need something uniquely Americana. The concept, here, is that this is nothing new. We have been doing this for generations. I want peoe to stop thinking of what's happening as a second Nazi Germany, but as a second American Revolution—the one that should have happened in the Progressive Era, but didn't.

Ben Welch

I was curious what it was going to sound like to music, Perfection. No notes.

trem_low

This goes hard. Injustice anywhere is a threat to equality everywhere.

Tildorath

This might be my new big jam at the moment

Charli Morgan

and here I was, nervous about getting political 😅

Artemis Blackwell

I never thought punk and harmonica could go that hard. Absolute Banger
