Paint me pastel black and I will

Scurry up the veil

Parched amid a summer creek and

Born amidst the hail

Mary and the mother and

The piper pied as I

Paint it pastel black because

Nothing grey can die

Gorgeous in the way that she

Cried of white wolf murder

Crows pecking beats and

Bleats of sheep, they

Only drive me further

Grey is slower, tar and snowy

Side of the road when winter’s

Done being rozy

Grey is Pastel Black and we

Do best singing of posies

In the hours before dawn does the

Moonlight compel sinners as do

Men of handsome will¹ break through

My beautiful and bitter, when my

Somber mourning dress concedes my

Summer morning best, nothing

Grey can ever wither

Because pastel black is best²

_

¹ This can be a bit unclear, but my intention is that "will" is a noun, not a verb in this instance.

²I'm really having trouble with the last line. Either "bc pastel black is best" or "bc all that's black does shimmer". what about "because nothing black can glimmer"?

Fixed it.

I'm getting fairytale vibes, and by that i mean the original, dark, brutal cautionary tale versions. Love the 3rd option best for the last line, "nothing black can glimmer". I like the way it sounds.
