While his decimation of every god who’d tricked him began, a different instance of Ben opened his eyes in another realm, seeing who waited there.

Sitting on the floor, not moving at all, was Myriad. He gave no signs, how could someone without a face do so if they weren’t going to speak or move, but it was clear enough he was inconsolable while Helori sat by the cube’s side, gently rubbing him and trying to provide whatever comfort she could, neither of them noticing him until he cleared his throat.

“Gosh, what’s with the atmosphere up here? You’d think someone went and died.”

“Ben?” Myriad perked up with Helori, his god rising in the air with his apostle’s voice and shot towards it, sounding like he’d be crying tears of joy if he were able. “Ben! You’re alive!”

“Of course I’m alive. You think anything in reality has the power to take me out?”

“That’s beginning to seem less and less likely every single day,” Helori laughed as she joined them. “You really are alive, though? This isn’t just your ascended form, with your flesh rotting in hell?”

“Of course he’s alive,” Myriad said, indignant on his behalf. “Look at him! With the twisted, freakish, warped soul he has, do you really think his divine form would look the same as when he was human?”

“A good point.”

“A hurtful point. Goddamn, I literally only just got back and you’re already trying to murder me again?”

“So, how did you do it?” Helori wanted to know, ignoring his complaint. “How’d you escape hell?”

“Did your failsafe actually work?” Myriad asked as well, knowing that Ben had that emergency backup prepared in his church but had lost faith when it hadn’t immediately activated.

“Ugh, no and yes. Going up from hell is apparently a fair bit harder than going down to it, so my key wouldn’t work. Long story short, I managed to exploit its fractal properties with the skills I have to break through reality enough to get out. Honestly, aside from the pain and the general sense of betrayal I went through getting shoved down there, it was actually a really interesting experience. It let me exploit my alien sense in a really unique way and seems like it helped awaken it too, so if I go back at some point I could see just how much more powerful the exploit would be now, which would be cool-”

“In all that’s good, don’t start planning a trip to hell when you only just got out!” Myriad yelled at him, all thoughts and depression over what Ben had to have gone through out of his head now that he was once more faced with his apostle’s madness.

“I mean, I’ve proven I can get out, and another awakening I got is probably going to make it a fair bit easier too. I’ll have to look into what planar manipulation does later-”

“What did it grow from?” Helori asked him, the name of the skill driving her own curiosity as Ben answered.

“Condemnation and realm access, and I can at least already tell what it did for the latter. Not only did it grow my realm to something bigger than any other I’ve seen up here, it seems like I can now forcefully grow it myself, even if that seems like a bit of a slow process. Still, it’s going to be handy for all of my future experiments-”

“I hate the way you experiment in your realm,” Myriad grumbled.

“I’m literally giving your old biology a head start so you won’t have to grow things from single cells and wait for natural evolution to take its course. If you ever stop by, I can show you all the different terraforming trees I’ve designed using what you’ve given me alone. Let me drop some on an iron-rich planet and you’ll have it looking so full of life, no other gods would ever guess how it was all made.”

“Dare I even ask how many different quote-unquote trees you have?”

“Currently? I hit three thousand designs I’m happy with and decided to take a break from there. I’ll get back to it later.”

“Trees spitting out three thousand different horrors based on the life of my dead world…”

“Hmm? Ah, I see where you made the mistake. Myriad, just because the one you saw me fighting with could only produce one type of creature, there’s no way the ones I’d made you would be so simple. It varies a bit, but as things stand, each one can spit out roughly a hundred different types of creature, so the grand total is going to be closer to three hundred thousand. Of course, I’m going to keep improving them and pumping those numbers up, and I’ll need to confirm that if I ensoul the initial seed that all of the creatures the trees’ birth will be ensouled too, but so long as that all works, there’s no need to worry. We’ll make you a planet as rich with variety as any other.”

“As interesting as all that is, you can go back to making Myriad sick later,” Helori told him. “About the infinite hells-”

“More like 1,864,592 hells. No matter how I moved down there, it didn’t split me more or less than that. There was technically more area beyond where I was being fragmented, but the place definitely doesn’t just split you infinitely.”

“And as interesting as that is, and as much as I look forward to probing you on your experience there later, that’s not the point. Now that you’re back, what are you going to do?”

“Ah, yeah, I guess we haven’t touched on that yet, have we? Well, I’m already doing it.”

“... Meaning?”

“So, I kind of lied earlier. I didn’t just get back. Sorry I didn’t let you guys know sooner, but it’s been a bit over an hour. I didn’t want to risk any of the assholes who dropped me down there getting a heads-up.”

“Should I even bother asking what you’ve done with them?” Myriad said, in that regard willing to accept anything Ben decided. Those gods had attempted to murder his apostle, his friend, and that left them meaningless to the cube, even beyond whatever minor value they might have been able to contribute to the war.

“Well, not done, but actively doing, and they just got me to the ninth level of evil god of sacrilege,” Ben said, letting different parts of himself worry about the notifications he was gaining. “Which I guess makes me a… I wanna say super-contender, but that sounds dumb. We really should come up with a better name for it.”

“There’s no point,” Helori told him. “Give us another billion years and we won’t see anyone else get there.”

“The great spirits are having more kids, and half-spirits live a long time, never say never,” Ben shrugged. “If Bloom hasn’t been careful since I last saw him, he might even have a few dozen on the way.”

“Not the point,” Myriad told him. “You’re now a contender for the fourth tier. I can’t imagine… how do you feel?”

“When it comes to the gods of this world? Unstoppable. At this point, even if all of you teamed up against me together, I don’t think you could beat me.”

“Horrify.”

“Yet true,” Ben said. Even just appraising the two before him, he knew they couldn’t affect him in any way that would be meaningful, while he had endless options. If he wanted to, he could take them apart with a thought or merge the effects of his sacrilege with any other skill he held and, if he were being truthful, he’d been at that point for a while. Even so, he couldn’t let himself get conceited over it. Even with all of the power he held, he’d still been tricked into falling into hell. There would always be ways to beat him; all he could do was prepare the best he could.

“And what about gods not on this world?” Helori asked, her point clear enough.

“Still abysmal, I’m going to focus on getting more awakenings and trying not to think about it,” he groaned. “At least, once I’m done with everything else I have to do today.”

“What else could you possibly be doing?”

“Oh, loads. Like I was saying, I’m currently torturing and testing out my new sacrilege level on the twenty who thought killing me would be a good idea, I’m having a fun little talk with Lehie and father Yan, two I know from when I first came to this universe because I needed a communal church to track down the realms of the assholes who attacked me, and who apparently thought I was insane this whole time-”

“They would be correct.”

“And, when I’m done that, I’m going to have to race home to Stonewall to hopefully meet up with Thera, because now that I’m back, she should be able to feel it with bind-”

“She’s taken what happened to you very poorly,” Myriad mentioned.

“I know, she’s great.”

“She’s destroyed every church and monument dedicated to the gods who attacked you, cursed the lands they were built on, and kidnapped their core believers. Anailia won’t let anyone talk to her or even poke around in her head, so none of us know what she’s planning on doing with them.”

“You don’t have to try and sell me on my girlfriend, Myriad. I’m already crazy about her.”

“The issue is that she’s a very well-adjusted person, right up until it seems like you’re dead. I can only dread what’s going to happen if anything ever does kill you off in a way you can’t come back from.”

“I’m sure it will be fine. Anyway, that’s not all I need to do.”

“Alright, what else then?”

“Set up a meeting with the other gods so I can announce my return. I’m already aware that, even if they didn’t directly participate with the ones I’m currently dealing with, plenty tried to let them off the hook. I’m done negotiating with the divine in good faith. It’s time we make things clear. Whether anyone likes it or not, the pecking order of this reality has changed.”

The gods don't like Godking Ben, and Ben Heph doesn't like Godking Ben either; but unfortunately the gods can't undo their actions or unspeak their words.

Silverraider05

It is after the main story. Ben is one of the strongest beings known to anything, and has infinite faith being generated for him. He finally decides to create his own tower. Supposing it has 5 floors like the standard towers, what do you think his trials would be? Especially as they couldn't be something that would kill, or inflict unnecessary torture, and with his way of thinking, would have safety on top of safety to prevent it,based on things he has said about other trials.

Kallisti _

“She’s destroyed every church and monument dedicated to the gods who attacked you, cursed the lands they were built on, and kidnapped their core believers. ... “You don’t have to try and sell me on my girlfriend, Myriad. I’m already crazy about her.” I loved Thera's reaction so much. Glad Ben agrees!

Kallisti _

I can see him doing an infinite variety of puzzles and creative thinking exercises.

Ben Cox

Poor Phixth is finally going to get a break now that negotiations are unnecessary I'm sure after he gets over the horror of this coming meeting he'll be overjoyed. Tyftc

Einheit

Whatever the first 4 floors end up being we all know the 5th floor would have whoever got there gain at least 2-3 levels of sacrilege

Justin Aether

Good, go start demanding blessings and stealing them when they're not given. Same with skills, every skill the gods can give should be given immediately

InkDevil

All hail the new overlord Ben! The whole world will be so much better off with Ben in charge.

demure

So good.

demure

I would hope he shows off and makes a 100+ floor tower with clear level requirements/scaling, and exits and retries permited at all floors.

Luboš Hemala

New managemet, yay! I want to see Ben really deciding what to do about the invasion and anything of import really.

Gaxlii

I'm amazed that this universe seems to not have the concept of self fulfilling prophecy beaten into the heads of every sentient entity. I feel like it's VERY common. For those that have not been beaten in the head with it, it's basically the concept of: by trying to stop a certain perceived event from happening, you make the event happen yourself. Your actions lead to the event you were trying to avoid. Or even make the event even worse. Cuz in some stories, simply by perceiving the future and acting on it, the future changes. The butterfly effect as it were. And don't even get me STARTED on diverging timelines. That about sums it up. Gods feared Ben would be all powerful, uncontrollable god, Gods try to kill Ben, Ben comes back as the powerful uncontrollable god they feared and beats the crap out of them. Self fulfilling. Prophecy. Fuck 😂

Skrublorde

I think he would start off by making the Mind Tower he's already been considering in the story. Perhaps it's purpose would be to welcome smart individuals without mind skills, and spit them out with mid-T2 mind skills.

Michael Hughes

Pecking order! Dear gods, he is ascending. When he reaches the level of super god he will become Mr. Popo. Then all who oppose him will know that they are below the worms in the dirt. I will never be able to look at the words pecking order without thinking about Team Four Star's Dragon Ball Z Abridged.

Claire Anno

It is going to be a video game. Possibly a roguelike. You have to develop an entirely new skillset from scratch, and then use that to beat the tower. It tests your willpower and talent beyond your inborn skills. Just like the talent Ben himself has. It will be legendary for all the geniuses It trounces and all the humble ones who thrive.

Seagull

Well I’m probably just blind but could not find the discord

Matt H

It would have a, functionally, undefined number of floors. Ben would create challenges on the spot tailored to the person or groups that enter, their initial goals, and what he would like to teach them.

Napalm078

'“Hmm? Ah, I see where you made the mistake. Myriad, just because the one you saw me fighting with could only produce one type of creature, there’s no way the ones I’d made you would be so simple.' >:) 'and who apparently thought I was insane this whole time-” “They would be correct.”' XD Thank you for the chapter :D

Vorquel

Recreate the infinite hells, but without the pain aspect and upgrading the minds of challengers to cope with it. Everyone is taking every floor at once, and it's just a matter of waiting for the slowest instance. Adds an extra safety margin as well, as there is no reason that every instance must survive, or really any instance. Ben can just recreate their bodies or do the entire thing in their heads.

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter! I look forward to the meeting lol!

Nathan

Well Anailia certainly backed the right horse. She and a couple dozen other gods have nothing to fear from Ben... the rest may end getting Ben to the fourth tier...

IdolTrust

Yup. A meeting to lay down the LAW. He just nonchalantly stated that all the gods together can’t stop him now. Once he gets tier 4, he would officially become a greater god. The reaction for the gods was kind of lackluster. Thera is doing good and I hope she gets evil goddess tier 3. Maybe to create spirits of evil and destruction.

IdolTrust

He doesn’t have to demand anymore. He can just take them.

Emily Gurnavage

"It’s time we make things clear. Whether anyone likes it or not, the pecking order of this reality has changed.” OOOOOOOOOOooooOooOooOoooh shit! I honestly wasn't super sure if he was "just" going to get revenge on those 20 and then treat the rest largely like normal or go this route and actualy take charge but this is definitely the more exciting route. My biggest question now is just HOW MUCH will Ben take control? Is he "just" making it abundantly clear he can't be fucked with, or is he actually taking over??? Will he let the Gods keep leading the world how they see fit, but just knowing they have no chance against him? Will he set himself up as someone who needs to approve every decision related to the war before any Gods can pass instructions down to mortals? Will he join them in their planning meetings and actively approve or veto decisions? Will be completely bar the Gods from any further war planning and take full control himself dictator style? Will the Gods become just more soldiers in the war, forced to go where Ben says and do what Ben says? Perhaps barred from doing any war stuff and relegated to purely religious actions? Theres so many ways this can go!!! Omgggggg EDIT:: Will he finally force the issue of religious relics being in the wrong hands, perhaps? I know there are multiple examples, but the main one we were given is that Mythic tier staff of light being in the hands of unawakened level 7 or 8 mages simply because their church has no awakened light magic users when it should definitely be in someone elses hands for the duration of the war.

Emily Gurnavage

With his wide range of knowledge, mind powers, actualization, enchanting, etc, Id imagine it being personalized somehow. As in, its a solo tower, and every person experiences a completely different tower suited to them and furthering their deepest goals and desires. Not a single person *ever* experiences exactly the same tower. Infinite permutations. Also it lets you out any time you want, no matter how far in you are or what challenge is currently being faced. You want out, and your out.

bioplants

Had it been stated why ben doesn't ask the great space mage to teleport mega-biobombs to the known demon infested worlds? I feel like that would help with all the faith the demon god is getting.

bioplants

Great space spirit*

Justin Aether

Well he has to know how to make them to steal them I believe, but he can demand they do it by "give me the skills or I'm just gonna take a blessing with all your faith

Sammot

So his kind of spatial sense he has from condemnation didnt grow? Since he didnt say he could immediately tell it was bigger?

Kallisti _

Maybe he'll just do oversight, where once a day/week/month/whatever, every god shows up to a meeting for 5 seconds so Ben can read everything they've been doing and then respond accordingly.

Kevin1245

Well the God's have never once been shown to be intelligent or useful. They're all weaponized incompetence personified.

Kallisti _

If the god knows how to make the skill, he can just lift it from their minds and do it himself.

Kallisti _

Ben needs to get Phixth a big fruit basket.

copperspike

it's probably negligible compared to the alien senses tier up

Dustin Friend

When Myriad says “Horrify.” I belive that it was meant to be "Horrifying."

copperspike

i'm thinking he'll permanently keep a ben in every divine realm

Mare Matthews

🥰 I also like Myriad’s accurate assessment that she’s “perfectly well adjusted” until something happens to Ben. As terrifying as Ben is, him being safe and alive is an undeniable blessing for the world at large. 😈

copperspike

looking forwards to king of the gods ben heph edit suggestions: half-spirits live a long time > half-spirits ought to live a long time Horrify > Horrifying

Mare Matthews

Him and Cecelee should have their own “I survived the Mad Apostle” brunches when Thera and Myriad aren’t using the room.

Dustin Friend

Yeah just a tower that is an endless playground for personal advancement where talking about the challenges doesn't matter because they are just really hard and not cruel. Not to mention probably just a great place to practice. Like oh the 5th floor is a forge where you can make whatever you want with an infinite supply of mirhril or other magical metals, but don't rush through the 4th floor because that one is an in depth saftey course on handling the more dangerous materials you can encounter and teaches you how to properly handle them. If you make a mistake on the 5th floor you don't die but it hurts really bad and forces you to repeat the 4th floor again.

Mare Matthews

I really really wish people would understand the escalation is a sign of what Ben was NOT doing, and therefore a measure of how reasonable he was trying to be. Idiots going to idiot, so no luck there, but it’s still true.

Mare Matthews

Just adding and additional vote that a Rogue Like repeatable Mind based Tower is both perfect and sounds fun. 😊

funktorial

honestly yeah having a ben instance (benstance) around in the upper realms overseeing everything is wise those bozos are just too incompetent. it's well past time for a reality check. the lack of a real war strategy is dooming them all

funktorial

a purely mental dungeon that trains mind skills

Emily Gurnavage

Both reasonable theories, given what we know of Ben. He doesn't seem like the Big Brother type really, but he also could frame it like giving them a taste of their own medicine almost and he issss petty like that.

Michael

I'm now imagining a time dilation effect so that people of the world can go in, become T3s, and then have an entire world army of T3s before the third wave

Mare Matthews

Anailia is one of the few gods we’ve had a lot of time with who shows the ability to recognize cause and effect. There’s a way to help her people overcome their passive ability stigmatization? Actively have members of her faith convert to Myriad, it’s more important than the faith! She earned all my respect with that move.

Mare Matthews

“Don’t mind me, just a fly on the wall!” *insert grotesque image from the 1986 Cronenberg movie The Fly*

Luboš Hemala

Not directly, but what Ben stated was that even if they win 3rd wave, he thinks Oaun can destroy them and has enough power to just destroy the whole planet.

Luboš Hemala

This starts to feel like a premise of another whole novel, where the MC fights his way through the inner worlds of the tower, layer by layer.

Hellophi

Tyftc, at this point he should bring Thera to help torture the gods, see how high she can get her sacrilege.

Hellophi

Benstance XD

Gwendolyn Simmons-LaRose

I feel like Ben would make a tower that has at least one level that lets you experience being a god, right before the sacrilege level on floor 5. A tower of heights, showing where power can take you, and then proving why you should be more humane and reasonable.

Kallisti _

Actually, it's 100+ gods that are definitely safe. And good on them for being able to recognize actions+consequences. ....now that the number of gods have come up, I'm wondering how many there are in total. At minimum, there're 120 (100 supporters + 20 assholes). Did we ever get a percentage estimate on the neutrals? I could've sworn that at some point, Phixth mentally assigned percentages but I don't remember when. Just like it would be inconvenient to kill those twenty for their acts, it would be impossible to stop well over a hundred who were going to share word of what happened, regardless of the consequences and the greater good be damned

Rage Vanes

When it comes to the gods of this world? Unstoppable. At this point, even if all of you teamed up against me together, I don’t think you could beat me.” “Horrify.” ( fix it to Horrifying) “Yet true,”

Kallisti _

Thank you, Matias. I'm on the Discord and have no idea how to share the..link? Channel? Idk what it's called. But I'm saving your comment for future people.

Arusalan

Man, this has got me real curious about what Ben's ascended form will look like

Mare Matthews

I don’t remember the percentages for pro, neutral, and anti, but in Chapter 3 Lehie tells Ben there are “a few thousand” gods in the world. So the hundred+ active supporters of Ben are a small percentage of the total, but the fact that only 20 were willing to risk taking on Ben directly is also telling.

Mare Matthews

It sounds like Faith is a bankable resource - the gods have been “storing” faith until they got the prophecy about when the war would start, from the believers they had before. So while evaporating every single demon-infested planet WOULD prevent Ouan from getting NEW Faith, it’s not going to damage any stockpile he has. Which, even if he’s megalomaniacally spending is still got to be substantial given the volume and fanaticism of the demons.

Mare Matthews

Exactly how Ben wants to look. Which is both a promise and a threat. 😈

Matías Rojas

If you go to #general-info there's an invite link you can copy and paste

Niffe

Can we all petition for Cecelee and those like her that always have to deal with the clean up of Ben's insanity to get a special title like "survivor of the mad-apostle" (or something along those lines) and have it give skills like insanity resistance and a skill that gives all holders of the title a conected small realm that they can help console each other

Mare Matthews

When Thera Awakens Stress Resistance to T3 she’s allowed to grant “Survived my Husband” Titles freely. Which, definitely, includes access to the realm Ben made her and Myriad so they could have brunch, drink alcohol, and cry over him. 😂

Arusalan

Godking Ben or Godking myriad? I'm betting all the work falls in myriads lap

Kallisti _

Y'all, I've got the best news. Our next two chapters should be 1) Ben reuniting with Thera and 2) Ben chastising the gods. Now, we don't know which will come first; Turnip likes to hop perspective, so we might get Thera before the god meeting. BUT!!! Today is Wednesday, which means we'll get a chapter for the next two days! So by Friday, we'll get both!! ......eyah, I know, I'm a bit too excited. Blame Turnip for ramping up the story.

Alik9999

WHERE IS IT, I'M AT MY FUCKING LIMIT!!!!!

Kallisti _

!!!!!!! You and me both!!!!! I keep refreshing Patreon, just in case my notifications have randomly gotten turned off.

RageScholar

"Horrify" should really be "Horrific" or "Horrifying". It really feels out of place.
