With arrangements made, an emergency meeting was called, bringing all of the gods together soon again after their last one concluded, much to the confusion of the majority who weren’t aware of the purpose behind it. No matter how anyone felt about what had happened, they’d already reached a conclusion but, given the level of priority it was being marked with, none of them avoided it, all of them expecting some new detail of Ben’s damnation to come to light.

“What’s this about, then?” One asked Phixth, the god who’d sent the word, given the respect he had among them and the work he would do ensured the rest were liable to listen, even as the stone god shrugged.

“Myriad wanted it called and said it was important.”

“Seriously? But-”

“If you’re all going to insist on ignoring the murder of his apostle, you can at least have enough respect to sit there and listen to his grievances,” Phixth said with cold finality, his own opinions of his fellow gods at an all time low and drove the rest of the crowd to silence. “If he wants to curse out every single one of us, then the very least we can do is sit here and take it. It’s far less than what’s deserved.”

“Maybe we should be talking about the terrorism one of us is allowing to take place across the world instead,” another said as eyes were cast to Anailia. “All of this anger over the loss of one mortal, yet now dozens are being held hostage.”

“A hostage implies my daughter wants something in exchange for them,” Anailia responded, wearing a thin smile. “What she’s actually doing is deciding if they should live or die.”

“And you’re just allowing that?”

“Of course. If we now have the freedom to kill one another’s believers with impunity, then how could I possibly stop someone who isn’t even among my core three, let alone everyone she commands who gives me no faith.”

“The girl’s completely snapped. No matter how you feel, as her goddess, you need to step in-”

“You’d demand a widow to tell her child to forgive her lover's murder?” Anailia asked, her eyes flashing with rage. “No, Thera can work out her anger in whatever manner suits her best, and I will support her in it until she’s done, and if anyone else here objects or interferes, then I will fight you to the last and be more than happy myself to show why we had our rules about not laying hands on one another’s followers in the first place.”

Weaker gods flinched back while stronger ones grimaced. They all knew they couldn’t afford to fight Anailia, and as a love goddess, she was taking matters more seriously than most. If it came to it, she’d have no qualms about carrying out those threats, for all the damage it would do, leaving the issue settled no matter how any of them felt about it. Perhaps if they had a consensus, they could force her hand, but too many were happy to let Thera act how she would, given what happened, and considering that the damage was exclusively held by the people directly related to the twenty who’d driven her to her current madness, the fact that she was containing her rage lowered the priority for others still. So what if she was destroying their churches and monuments? Plenty there believed the gods responsible deserved far worse, and while many viewed taking their core believers to decide whether or not they should live or die as going too far, no one was equipped to stop her.

Still, it seemed like some among them wanted to say more, to try to convince Anailia to stop the madness of her believer, but lost the chance to. Among the crowd, Myriad rose, pulling all attention to himself.

“If you could all ignore what my apostle’s partner has been up to for at least a few minutes, there’s a different matter I’d like to give our attention,” Myriad told them, with only some among them noticing that he seemed far too composed, given how he’d been only a little while earlier, beginning to feel a worry of their own about just what the cube would do after what had happened. From their perspective, Myriad had lost the person who’d changed his life for the better, and while still not among the most powerful there, had to have stored a decent supply of faith. At least enough to cause a small disaster of his own, be it down on the world or the heavens above, but that wasn’t what they got. Instead, before them, another appeared, grinning broadly and sinking stomachs across the room.

“‘Sup, fuckers. Miss me?”

Immediately the crowd erupted into chaos, both excitement and fear as they all tried to talk over each other in reaction. Ben had escaped from hell. No matter what else they thought, that fact was plain before them, along with all it implied as more among them began to accept the truth. There was nothing they could do to stop the boy.

But Ben wasn’t feeling so patient. They could discuss his survival all they wanted later; he still had his grievances, and he wasn’t going to let them go so casually, leaving a single word to leave his lips.

“Silence.”

Instantly, all of them stopped talking, and all of them felt the horror behind it. That hadn’t been an act of their own wills, but of Ben’s, suppressing them all with his sacrilege and his mind as he stared, making sure that none would start again before he went on.

“Let’s make things clear first, shall we? I’m going to give you all a chance.”

“To do what? Phixth asked, taking on the role of dealing with Ben like it was second nature to him at that point, even as he felt his own bit of genuine fear at the mortal’s wrath.

“To convince me I should let them live,” he said, snapping and bringing forth the twenty gods who’d damned him, knives stabbing through their flesh and their bodies broken, the once incredibly proud deities left crying and begging for mercy at his feet in a way that left the others there feeling sick, while copies of Ben stood at each one's side, ready to slay them. “And to convince me not to do the same to every god here who thought they should be treated with kid gloves for my murder.”

“You can’t be serious,” another god said before screaming, a new Ben appearing at that one’s back with a knife in hand and sliced off an ear, the other deities there left to watch in horror as it was placed in Ben’s mouth and slid down his throat.

“I’ve never been more serious. You’re dealing with a mind reader. I know who was on my side and I know who isn’t, and if you think I’ll have troubles dealing with a couple hundred more gods when these ones were nothing to me then you’re all far too optimistic. So, convince me or try your luck now, because I’ll be happy enough to see this world without anyone here who would accept my murder.”

Two there started to get up but, seeing no one else move, quickly sat down again. All of them could see the state of the gods at his feet, blubbering and screaming for help and mercy, and even if they believed enough of them would be able to take him on, without all of them willing to move, it was plain enough that they didn’t stand a chance.

“Alright,” Phixth said, nodding his way. “You’ve made your point well enough, Ben. We’re willing to negotiate with you-”

“Wrong,” Ben told him. “Phixth, you’ve always tried to treat me fairly, and I respect that. You’re in the group that has nothing to fear from me, but if you’re going to be speaking for the ones who are, you need to be aware of this. This isn’t a negotiation. We are long past the point where anyone has the chance to bargain with me in good faith. These are terms of surrender. You want these twenty to live, along with the rest that were secretly cheering them on? Then I’m outlining my terms, and you can all either agree to them or not.”

“I don’t actually care much about whether the ones who attacked you live or die,” Phixth said with a shocking level of honesty, leaving looks of betrayal on their beaten faces. “But as for the others… unless any object, I will speak on their behalf.”

“Excellent. In that case, let’s make it clear just who we’re talking about first,” Ben said, actualizing marks above every guilty party’s head, leaving nearly half of the gods there who’d actively tried to lower the punishment of his attackers or celebrated his death revealed to the rest of them. “There we are, every god who means nothing to me and every god this world would be better off without. If you’re not marked, then congratulations; that means you still have the right to negotiate with me in good faith.”

“And what you’d want for the rest’s safety?” Phixth asked.

“Oh, you know how I am. My greed knows no end. But, if you aren’t going to speak for the ones that directly attacked me, let’s start with them first,” Ben said, hoisting them up in the air and repairing just enough of the mental damage he’d caused to keep them coherent. “All of you, decide now. Either live, giving every drop of faith you gain to Myriad for the next ten thousand years, along with all of your church’s current funds, while also giving me and Thera your complete blessings, or die. The choice is yours.”

Ben could simply take their blessings if he wanted, and if they chose death, then he’d be more than willing to rip apart their souls to benefit as many people as they could, but, surprisingly to him, that wasn’t the point of contention among them as Eneth screamed.

“Take all of the faith we have? Do you see what he’s trying to do? We warned you what he was like, WE WARNED YOU ALL ALONG AND STILL-”

A knife shoved through his jaw silenced him as the other gods flinched at his brutality, but Ben ignored it, focusing on Myriad instead.

“What’s so bad about taking all of their faith? You live without any for thousands of years.”

“I actually shared a minimum amount of faith that naturally generated from the world and gained some from the casual and occasional prayer from people who’d see my statues at the communal churches, and with nothing to do, given how weak I was, it was easy enough to let it pile up a bit to keep me from getting too uncomfortable,” his god explained.

“So what? Will a lack of faith kill them?”

“... Hard to say for certain, but what it will undeniably do is trap them. Without faith, they won’t be able to interact with the lower realm at all, which would stop them from claiming any future faith as well. They’ll be confined to their realms, potentially forever.”

“Is that all? That’s fine then. If it seems like they’re dying, then someone up here is free to share a drop or two to keep them going, and if it won’t kill them, then they have nothing to complain about.”

“You’d be destroying our churches!” Olensia screamed. “Our followers would disappear-”

That god’s mouth was silenced with a knife as well, holding it shut as Ben stared at them all. “Who gives a shit? You’ll be alive, and if you've done a good enough job with your believers, then who knows? Maybe some of the descendants of the ones who currently exist will still remember you and think to give you a prayer in that time. The other option is death. Now choose. You have three seconds.”

Even if they wanted to maintain some dignity, they were far past the point of pride. No matter what it meant for them, they didn’t want to know what else he might do to them before he would let them die, leaving the group begging at his feet.

“WE’LL DO IT! We’ll do it, so please let us be!” they cried while Ben stared down at them.

“Good. In that case, don’t clutter up my status while you’re doing it. You’re each giving me and my partner your full blessings, but wrap them all together into… let's call it the defeated pantheon’s blessing. I think that would suit you all to a t.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, he could feel every god in that space react, and a quick look in their surrounding minds had revealed why. Gods could be grouped in different ways. Gods who hailed from the same world could immediately be seen as belonging to the same group by others among the divine, but on that shared world, it had seemed that deities would naturally form pantheons with others who shared their same nature. A curious discovery, but one that had lacked meaning until then. Ben’s meaningless words had just changed that though. As soon as he said it, the ones he addressed had become the defeated pantheon in a way that the rest there could immediately understand, adding a new dimension to their fears.

Are they really worried I might name them something stupid and they’ll be forced to live with whatever moniker I pick forever… Okay, that actually does sound like it would be kind of funny.

Still, he held himself back, at least for the time, and motioned for them to continue, leaving notifications to ring out in his head as he claimed the equivalent of two tower blessings.

“There, are you satisfied?” Eneth asked once the weapons covering him were ripped away, the god well and truly defeated as he stared at the ground, only forced to look up as Ben gripped his face and pulled the lizard’s eyes to meet his own.

“No. You tried to murder me. I’ll never be satisfied as long as you’re all alive, still able to look forward to the future. Even if I’m letting you live, I’ll see your faiths destroyed and your worshipers all turning their backs on you. I’ll leave every one of you with nothing.”

“Why?” Plyzar cried, the very god who’d sacrifice one of his churches for the trick they’d pulled. “You’ve won! Why can’t you just stop?”

“Because every one of you is my enemy, and I’m willing to show as much mercy as I receive in turn.”

<ACQUIRED TITLE- DEFEATED PANTHEON’S ENEMY>

With that extra bonus on top of everything else, a grin came to his face that left others in terror, not knowing its source. All it did was make them wonder, if Ben was willing to go that far on the gods who’d tried to harm him, what would his limits be on the ones who had stood in the way of proper punishment themselves.

“Alright,” he said, letting his focus turn back to the rest of the crowd. “I’ll make this simple. As of now, I have the rights of both mortals and gods. Whenever those rights conflict, I’ll be taking the more beneficial one for me.”

“Acceptable,” Phixth said, and how could it not be? None could deny that Ben had turned himself into the strongest being on the planet. The boy had surpassed any normal understanding of godhood. If that was what he wanted, then he was in the position to get it, with no other gods trying to argue, forced to accept that new reality.

“Two,” Ben went on. “I always try to pick fair prices for my work. If the collective gods of this world ever want anything from me again, you’ll pay what I ask for without argument. As for the gods here who were willing to treat my death seriously and who have acted with me in good faith in the past, all of you will individually be allowed to properly negotiate my terms, if you would ever like to hire me again.”

“Very well,” Phixth went on, not expecting to have to strike too many more deals with the mortal in the little time they had left before the third wave, but was willing to pay the price if it came up and saw others agree, whether thinking they could handle the cost or else assuming they could just avoid hiring him altogether. “But I doubt that’s all.”

“Right you are, Phixth! That’s why I like you; you’re easy to work with. And probably why others keep dumping you with annoying tasks, like dealing with little old me.”

“So, what else then?”

“Simple. The first two demands involved all of the gods, and they were really just there to ensure my best treatment. Now we get to the meat of things. The others, why don’t we call you the coward pantheon for simplicity's sake, who tried to let these other pieces of shit off the hook,” Ben said, copies of him kicking the twenty at his feet for good measure. “I’m going to make this simple. Bend the knee, kiss the ring.”

“... What exactly is that supposed to mean?”

“A proper offering,” Ben laughed. “Since they weren’t directly involved in what happened, I won’t give them the exact same treatment, but there's no doubt they weren’t taking what happened to me seriously. For as long as I live, give twenty percent of your faith to Myriad, including whatever you currently hold-”

Faces immediately dropped among those who’d just been bundled into the coward pantheon, but that wasn’t the complaint that drove tempers to explode and left him cut off compared to the rest he asked for.

“Twenty percent is outrageous!” One yelled at him. “Our faith is for the good of the world-”

The complaint ended in another scream, the god losing their snout to Ben’s actualized blade, only for it to be snacked on by an instance of Ben while a different one answered.

“Don’t worry. For as long as the war goes on, Myriad will simply pay the faith cost using whatever he gains from you all during it, and this is fairly obviously for the sake of handling the invasion as well. How could I possibly trust any of you to be responsible for what you have when you were each so accepting of the defeated gods spending what they’d saved to not only get rid of me, but release even more evil ghosts onto the world than what we already had to deal with the last time someone opened a portal to hell? Faith that should have been spent to defend the world instead went to making it worse. No, I’m judging you by the company you keep, and what I’ve seen is that you all shouldn’t be trusted to manage your faith accordingly. Now, as I was saying before being so rudely interrupted, all of the coward gods will contribute the same fractions of your souls that you would have spent toward a normal tower blessing each, for me and Thera as well. Come on now, first act as a new pantheon, isn’t that just grand?”

Fragments of that many divine souls shaped to strengthen him would be worth around five tower blessings, added on to the equivalent of two he’d just gotten from the defeated gods to bring him ever closer to even more of his goals, and he felt the gods who’d have to pay the price react.

As strong as he’d become, more than a few wanted to believe he was still just an upstart mortal, despite the evidence he’d already shown to the contrary, and with looks exchanged between a few of them, he could feel the idea going around that, even if twenty hadn’t been enough, nearly half of the gods of that world would be, leaving him to break them of that notion.

Instantly, all of them felt points at the back of their necks where more Ben’s now stood, one for each of them, with more just as easy to send, and all at once, the feeling of defiance vanished. There were only so many ways to show he outclassed them, but none more meaningful than showing just how easy it would be for him to attack before any of them could react and, forced to accept their new pantheon and their broader faith, did as he commanded, leaving yet more notifications to ring out in his head.

“That’s what I thought,” Ben told them, indifferent to their feelings, as some were lost in fear and others ground their teeth in defeat, before giving them all a wide smile. “But hey, you can all take comfort. As long as you stay on my good side and treat the mortals of this world with love and respect equal to what you’d expect them to give any god, then I’ll let you all keep pretending that you’re the real rulers of this world.”

Having gotten everything he’d wanted and impressed upon the divine that the pecking order of that planet had just changed, he bought the meeting to a close, once more showing the power he had over all of them by sending them each back to their realms, cementing the proper level of fear he wanted in his power as he did.

As always, delicious turnip, thank you Side note: wasn't Abomination Source already at Contender level?

MiroScavenger

Ben officially ownes the world. Nice

Vorquel

Ruthless, but also cathartic.

Tiarnaria

Fuck yeah, that's what I needed

TheCrazyDuck

Nice, evil god Ben has taken his rightful place at the top.

SirReality

Daaaamn, that was a long time coming and satisfying. I wonder how long it takes him to bargain for blessings from any remaining good-faith gods, and just get the full suite of multiple worlds' worth of pantheons' blessings.

Riana Felblade

Tftc! I was genuinely refreshing my notifications today waiting for it lol

Einheit

Thank Myriad I was reading this in my room and not in public. I was cackling like a Ben that finally snapped

Kallisti _

Better even than what I anticipated!

Damn soul expansion didn't awaken

ShyviaAngel

Mmmmmhhh all the dramatic and flairr

Lucas

I hope Thera's perspective is next so we can see her react to those 2 blessings. And they also better reunite

Kedar

Would it be possible to get a updated character sheet in it own post maybe? would just like to see it after all these additions

demure

Yes!

ZaA

This payoff is tremendous

TBONEMAN

He should get a world conqueror title. Maybe divine conqueror.

funktorial

lol it's pretty great that the unimaginable horror he's delivering unto them is just "you pay taxes now"

Enxes

He doesn't even need to buy a continent anymore lol

Mr R

"" Is this another third tier skill?

Enxes

He has a title for being a God of Destruction but all of his awakenings give him an Evil God skill. This is unjust

Kallisti _

Hey, Ben finally got a level to Stealth! w00t! Oo, and three new awakenings. You go, Ben!

Ben Cox

Ah that Is cathartic as hell after all the shit the gods put him through while not understanding that he could've destroyed them. "Kiss the ring" top class line. Tyftc can't wait to see more especially ben being over the moon that Thera went on a rampage and got nine levels of sacrilege

Kallisti _

You and me both. I'm a bit worried that instead of Thera, we'll see how the friendly gods feel as they hang out in Myriad's realm. The only way I would be happy with that is if Anailia came (along with Nare, Helori, possibly Jagal) and brought Thera up to instantly reunite them.

Nematrec

No title of Just pantheon to those who wanted to punish the defeated pantheon? Pity

Kallisti _

"Cackling like a Ben that finally snapped" ^I love that description

Jon Lomax

tftc, a nice long one.

Luboš Hemala

Poor Thera getting a blessing out of nowhere again XD

Fan Wielder Will it unlock a bunch of new jobs? I mean usually he has Demonic, evil, divine, corrupted, foul, holy and the like as possible prefix.

Emily Gurnavage

Thera's perspective: >AQUIRED DEFEATED PANTHEON'S GREAT BLESSING> *Skills go brrr* >AQUIRED COWARD PANTHEON'S GREAT BLESSING> (fixed it vanishing) *Skills go brrr* "....Where the fuck is Ben?" *Urge to kill rising*

SacredSteel

Damn. Ben is really laying it thick. Still deserved. I was thinking he would have created his own pantheon now that he knows how to name them but I guess there is still time for that.

Nathan

I love this part- "A hostage implies my daughter wants something in exchange for them,” Anailia responded, wearing a thin smile. “What she’s actually doing is deciding if they should live or die.” “And you’re just allowing that?” “Of course. If we now have the freedom to kill one another’s believers with impunity, then how could I possibly stop someone who isn’t even among my core three, let alone everyone she commands who gives me no faith.” “The girl’s completely snapped. Emily Gurnavage

More like a tithe to a King, but also the tithe is sort of their life-force lol. Being forced to give up what powers and sustains your being and strength isssss a pretty horrifying demand. But he does have solid points about them mismanaging their Faith and this being not just revenge but actually good for the world as a whole.

Michael Hughes

Fantastic. I would have wanted him to keep torturing those 20 for the months leading up to the third wave but this is fine. Now if only we had a stat page chapter. This has to open more job options. When he revealed himself I just imagined Dokes from Dexter. Surprise MF. Tftc.

Emily Gurnavage

Im pretty sure the other Gods *can* move at significantly faster speeds so they could have conversations in seconds, just not nearly at Ben speeds. Before Ben was strong they sometimes moved at incomprehensible speeds to him. So if they expend some power, they cooould have it faster. It must take faith or somethin though since they dont do it every meeting or even often at all but they have done it some meetings iirc. All that said - yea, id still prefer a reunion chapter next. Could be from Ben or Thera's perspective, that part is kinda whatever, but the reunion surely must be next. Or a split chapter, since the kids dont even know he was gone. Dont need to involve them here really. Just ben n Thera, then a short finale with Ben goin up to talk to the gods he likes. Edit: Ben could also pull all the friendly gods into his mind and speed everyone up, cept most of them arent comfy with him interacting with their minds. An option, though.

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter! Oh that was satisfying, wonder what Thera thinks of her blessing popping in. Glad the gods have been set straight lol

E.L. Orange

Yooo I just now peeped that😂 even if they start a "Boston tea party" it ain't gonna go far with god-king Ben

BIGLARGEFISH

I mean all he has to do is offer his services right? Hey can you me a minor bless for a church or two to be rebuilt. Honestly given the depths of his power I think the reasonable gods should start trying to make simple deals with him if only to friends tho theyd also get a legendary church out of it.

Emily Gurnavage

Aahhh I can't wait for him to tell his friends from Earth. Or for someone to? I kinda doubt any God is gonna risk displeasing him now, though, so prolly gotta come from him. I doubt they even tell their apostles or oracles the full truth - like Ben said, they can keep the charade for now. Secret cant be kept if they spread it to any mortals at all. Maybe when he next meets Yuzu and she flips at the new blessings from previously unknown pantheons and all the other stuff. And the Grey! They saw his banishment, and surely saw his return as well. They will connect some dots.

Sauce Master

Bought the meeting to a close?

Kronos blood

More i need more now dont make me waiting for more chapters

Dustin Friend

They just had a massive lesson dished out to them that they should have listened to the proverb, "Give your enemy a thousand chances to become your friend, but do not give your friend a single chance to become your enemy." Had they left Ben alone he would treat them well and wouldn't have done anything to harm them, heck for his closest friends amongst the gods he probably would have eventually gifted them ways to reduce the disparity between them as a sign of good faith rather than just being kind to them. Nare, Heloise, and Myriad have all gained a significant boost to their own voices by simply being friendly and reasonable, which honestly will serve as a key example for the other tier three mortals on how gods should behave

Mare Matthews

Everyone is focused on what it’s costing them. I wonder how many of the gods not in the Coward Pantheon realize how reasonable Ben is being? Because “Let Myraid eat each of the Defeated Pantheon” is very much a possibility he could have pursued without offering a choice.

Mare Matthews

We all know he’s willing to do remodeling! 😇

Mare Matthews

Re: The kids not knowing what went down: “Ben, why do you have so many new Blessings, Skills, and Titles?” “Ah, you know Mora, things happen.” “…. What kind of things make your Soul look even more like Dewdrop’s?” “We’ll tell you when you’re older.”

Mare Matthews

“You don’t need to sell me on Thera, I’m crazy about her already!” indeed! 😊

Mare Matthews

I agree, there should just be a pinned post with the most recent Stat Page on the Patreon. Marked spoilers for anyone not paying, but I believe it should be free just to let people have stuff to anticipate. 😈

Mare Matthews

Well, she knows Bind went back up, and it’s possible Anailia is giving her some real time updates. But also telling Thera where to head for the reunion (aka the Communal Church) is good.

Hellophi

Tyftc, he has far more control over them than I thought possible, I mean he made them shut up and sent them home. Also eating the ear and snout went hard af. Also does this mean no Thera getting [Queen of Sacrilege] :(.

Mare Matthews

It’s nice to have textual confirmation that gods can have multiple pantheons. This makes having Delair in the Myriad Pantheon and Jagal Pantheon inevitable. 😊

Mare Matthews

Torturer has never been a Job yet, right? Torturer needs to be a Job chain!

Mare Matthews

The raw hypocrisy here. “This mortal is kidnapping Apostles, Oracles, and High Priests!” “Because their gods murdered an Apostle.” “What does that have to do with anything?” Anytime a ruling class thinks being in the ruling class makes them more “people” deserving of respect than those they are supposed to be serving, heads really do need to start rolling.

Mare Matthews

I don’t even think this will be a surprise. Bind came back up? Gonna get some Blessings, Ben always demands Blessings. The pantheon names will be a shock, though. 😊

Mare Matthews

Brought the meeting to a yeeting back home. 😈

Mare Matthews

Ben needs to get Yuzu and Elvat into a nice, comfortable, quiet room, show them his soul, and let them have a breakdown uninterrupted for an hour.

Hellophi

Ben with all his titles should be getting another title holder title eventually, I hope it's either something like that or like: bike rider extrodinare, or some other relatively unimpressive title

Michigo

Patreon doesn't like text in > and < signs without spaces.

Preston Bowers

Should have named one of them the "I'm fine Thera, no need to worry" pantheon. Just bc it's the most badass way to send a message

Michigo

Miriad just became the most powerful regular God, after Ouan (+ the wildcard primordial Gods out there). 20% of around half the worlds Gods faith? That's ~10% of the collective faith power from ~1000 Gods, aka he is ~100 as powerful as the average God there.

Skrublorde

Patreon isn't properly sanitizing their inputs, about what I'd expect from their development team

Skrublorde

When did he get Fan Wielder? Also, I dunno how I feel about the Defeated Pantheon being spared. They clearly have even more reason to despise Ben, and a near unrivaled level of ego and foolishness; I worry for what might happen in a few decades when the pain has faded a bit and they come up with another "brilliant" plan.

Dastardly Daoist

Beautiful, just *chef's kiss* positively cathartic. Really hope what happened gets around and we see some reactions from people like yuzu or nare's kid

Emily Gurnavage

Thanks Michigo, I didnt realize I messed up the first brackets and thats what saved that one. I redid the coward one with intentionally wrong brackets.

Emily Gurnavage

Good idea! Yours made me think of him simply bringing them up to the divine realms while they sleep, and getting to greet him while he uses several of the traitor gods as a flesh throne while the rest serve on him hand and foot. Yours is prolly less panic inducing though.

Dotakiin

The way you worded it makes me view it as a grain tax, and 20% is pretty low for historical grain taxes.

Dotakiin

Even just offering a trade of blessing Ben and Thera for Ben to bless their important followers would be a fair trade all around.

Matías Rojas

Less than 20 chapter ago, I think. It's quite irrelevant, at least for now

IdolTrust

Myriad is going to be an uber god with all that faith.

Emily Gurnavage

I mean im sure the kids will somewhat be told or find out, but I mean that he will be back before they even knew he was gone. So there isnt a need for a heartfelt reunion with them. The only people in the entire world who know what happened are the gods and Thera. Not even her victims know wtf was happening.

Slicedtoad

He should have at least killed one god.

Dangit it's supposed to say ACQUIRED FREDERICK'S BLESSING. AUTHOR FRUSTRATION LEVEL INCREASED.

That would have been hilarious

As enjoyable as these chapters have been, it feels like this also marks a notable shift in Ben's character. While I'll readily that Ben has always been willing to get revenge, his actions with the "Coward Pantheon" in particular felt much more along the lines of extortion rather than revenge. It's hard to put my finger on exactly what feels different. Maybe it's the fact that Ben is now punching down rather than punching up? When he got Soulcraft he refused to take skills even from demons or enemies, but now he's happy to force a bunch of people to cut off parts of their souls to empower him all because they were either his enemies or opposed to him? Because that's what the gods are and always have been to Ben: people. So why is gaining power from the souls of THIS group of people who harmed him ok while gaining power from the souls of OTHER people who harmed him not ok?

Mare Matthews

How do you tell your kids you were dropped into the infinite hells by gods that hate you? … Ok, Delair will be fine about it, but still. 😂

Silverraider05

I kind of get what you are saying, Ben has had somewhat of a tonal shift. I think what's important to consider is that it has not come from nothing. He has tried being diplomatic. He has tried to show that actions against him have consequences, when he just wants to be seen as equal. He has now been pushed to the point where the only diplomacy that they can reach is by pointing a figurative gun at the heads of those who oppose him. Its also important to note that although yes, a blessing is given by the gods by using their soul, they negate the damage using faith (citation needed). So in actuality, they are not having their soul damaged, but there will have been a considerable hit to their faith reserves. *Edit* I wasnt quite right. But they use it to heal faster. Chapter 862, "... you should know that removing pieces isn’t pleasant and we use faith to heal the damage we sustain doing it quicker."

Glitter Rabbit (C)

I wonder if killing all twenty would have given him the fourth tier of king of sacrilege. That seems to be the skill that will evolve during his battle with the demon god, as others have reasoned a few chapters ago, but a part of me was still hoping

Mare Matthews

Re: Defeated Pantheon I’m not worried. There’s literally nothing they can do in the next few months, and after unmaking Ouan to particle sizes previously unknown to this reality, Ben will have nothing to worry about from anyone. “In a few decades,” if they so much as blink in the direction of anyone Ben likes, he can just have the Monkey King crowns they’ll be installed with tighten.

Mare Matthews

Myriad being labeled King of the Patchwork World Confirmed! [Half Life Meme] But seriously, I look forward to that. 😊 Ben may be the powerhouse, but he has much more experience making other people do the religious jobs than doing his own religious job. 😂

Mare Matthews

He wanted to prove he’s reasonable. I suspect he’s at least a tiny bit surprised no one took the “or death” option, but since no one did he’s going to be honorable and stay by it.

copperspike

fuck that's satisfying edit suggestions: You live without any for thousands of years. live > lived “To do what? Phixth asked add end quotes after question mark As of now, I have the rights of both mortals and gods. clarify what this means, is he claiming ownership over all individuals, merely the right to dictate how they are to treat each other, or something else? Myriad will simply pay the faith cost using whatever he gains from you what faith cost? i assume he means like, whatever planned defenses against the demons that require faith, but i can't really tell

copperspike

oh is it the faith cost for recovering their souls after giving the blessing?

Mechanist Grimm

This has been wonderful but I hope he has done something to reach out to Thera cause she gonna stab him for making her wait and the last person you want to encourage stabbings from is the person that can perfectly reverse that damage as an afterthought. Really changes the meaning of "We don't know how many times he was stabbed but it looked like a lifetime's supply."

Alik9999

It makes much more sense that his character change so much when you know that his conception of time is highly distorted, something that people see for a few moment can seem to be hours if not years for him, add to that all of his evil inclinations that probably have an effect on him.

copperspike

the latter wasn't a great blessing, as the faith/soul cost for each of the relevant gods was how it would be for them to give out a tower blessing, not a full blessing

copperspike

no, soul enhancement was previously base tier, so this should be tier 2

Andrew Nichols

LETS. FUCKING. GO! ABOUT TIME THINGS GOT OUT IN OECKING ORDER!!

posiedon11

I still think Ben should introduce his soul tiles.that could shut down any argument as he could theoretically generate the most faith over night. It’s not like he really needs the 20%,

Mare Matthews

Getting all those extra levels of Sacrilege really paid off. Plus whatever bonuses he’s been getting from, you know, cannibalizing everyone… that deserves it.

Mare Matthews

Ben made a bicycle. Which is actually kind of impressive, the gears for making a bicycle are no laughing matter and it’s something he had to do from memory a long, long time ago. And by riding it he created the Cycling skill.

Demolug

Gained it when introducing the bicycle to this world oh so long ago.

Mare Matthews

I felt the escalating Myriad Statue of Expensiveness was punching down, and really hated how Ben was playing that up. This really feels like a redistribution of resources from people that, as Ben said, tacitly approved of an absolutely horrible waste of power. The Blessings are a tithe to improving the, completely inarguably, strongest and most versatile mortals on the planet, and the Faith being placed in Myriad’s control for spending during the war effort.

Mare Matthews

Also, while it serves Ben he’s also punishing people who were approving of BREAKING THEIR OWN LAWS. Rules about interacting with mortals exist on the world for a reason, and the Coward Pantheon actively wanted to keep the crime CENSORED to protect their own interests.

Mare Matthews

“Coward Pantheon” is punching down, but also completely in character for Ben and quite frankly mild compared to what it could have been.

Mare Matthews

So, there are separate rules for mortals and gods when it comes to divine interactions. Gods can’t speak directly to another god’s believer, for example; Ben asked Myriad to talk with Thera in an emergency, and it was a thing.

John Vistica

The deal was if they were to live or die. Nothing stopping Ben from visiting their realms occasionally and having a fireside torture session or two.

Mare Matthews

What Ben’s saying is that both sets of rules apply to him, because he’s both mortal and able to interact with the gods on equal footing (unlike normal T3s before ascending). But Ben also gets to pick which set of rules to live by: He’s treated as an equal when it benefits him, and gets the protection of a mortal when it benefits him. And Phixth approved of this.

Mare Matthews

Stabbing Ben is sadly meaningless when he willingly puts himself through worse pain on the regular for training. She wants him to suffer? He’s going to have to run on his treadmill several real-world hours. Multiple versions of him.

Mare Matthews

He doesn’t need the 20%, but he wants Myriad to have it. It’s several layers of message. One, Ben can demand and get something this important. Two, Ben’s supporters are willing to acknowledge it’s appropriate. Three, Myriad deserves the Faith more than the Coward Pantheon.

posiedon11

I was saying that Ben could make infinite faith with his soul tiles, so the 20% is a punishment, but not really a benefit. Unless there are downsides to the tiles I don’t remember

John Vistica

Ben will be visiting each of the Defeated on a regular basis for a casual torture session. They only agreed on whether they would live or die and then the faith thing. Nothing in there about leaving them alone.

John Vistica

What transpired is best for the Ben and Thera. If Thera went on a killing spree and wiped out all the people she petrified and then Ben comes back, she can't just go 'Oops, my bad'. For Ben to start killing off gods right and left kind of doesn't make him too much better than the evil god.

copperspike

they give low quality faith, but we haven't really been shown quite if that means anything beyond just needing more of it to constitute the same amount of power

Silverraider05

I believe he reactivated bind. Now, whether in her rage she noticed that, or whether getting the blessings will snap her out of her rage enough to see bind is working again, we wait to see!

Nicolas

Is soul enhancement now 3rd tier?

Mare Matthews

If faith tiles were the answer to Myriad’s strength, Ben would have already made enough that Myriad wouldn’t have lost against the Defeated Pantheon. It sounds like they’re more a linear solution compared to the exponential gains of Faith from multiple mortals. Especially now that Myriad will be getting basically 10% of ALL the Faith on the planet, out of thousands of gods (who would be getting maybe 0.1% each).

Mare Matthews

Napkin math numbers for the amount of Faith Myriad is about to receive from the Coward Pantheon. Say a strong god like Anailia gets 100fp per cycle. Myraid before Ben got 5fp per cycle, and an average god gets 40fp per cycle to lowball. Say there are 3,000 gods, and lowball the Coward Pantheon to 1,000. Assume a lowball average fp. That’s 1000 x 40 x 0.2 8,000 Faith Points. To Anailia’s 100. Ben knows how to negotiate! (I left out the Defeated Pantheon because that’ll be negligible pretty soon…)

Slicedtoad

He should have killed a god just to see if it does anything for his status. The other gods would care far less that he killed one of the 20 than they do about how he's treating the rest of them.

frosty

i feel like bens been slowly treating people that help him worse :/ he didn't do anything for all the gods that stood up for him other then the "right to continue to not feel my wrath" and he continues to bully and not pay or compensate a certain bookworm with good eyes for his time when thats the exact thing ben himself hates and complains about (he only made the guy good food ONCE)

Joshua Schneiders

I must have missed it a while back, but what does the "corrupted" prefix indicate beyond a more effective piercing resistance? I can get how "unnatural" can indicate its grown in a way that doesn't make sense for nature to have any hope in replicating but corrupted makes it sound like its grown in a way to recognise things that are only technically piercing and not actually piercing as something to resist

juneboi2

We saw it demonstrated that the skill automatically leaks some Destruction magic when something attempts to pierce him.

Joshua Schneiders

oh! I see, thats interesting, I guess corrupted means the method it uses is partially broken/subsumed by other magic?

Michigo

Let me get this straight: getting revenge on a group of people (in this case Gods), after surviving their murder (plus condemnation to hell!) attempt is ONLY ok if you not punching down? Newsflash: A main character that comes back with vengeance on his mind, usually got a training arc or power up first. To serve extra sweet justice to those that wronged him. Ben wasn't even all that brutal. I mean who here would have minded Eneth and Co getting drained of everything worthwhile, before being fed to our favourite lil "housecat" or put into time dilated super-hell prison? He went easy on them again and again, but they refused to wise up. Instead they upped their commitment to mess with him. And now they finally understand what the word "regret" means, there is no medicine against it. 😊

Michigo

Ben was making it clear he doesn't appreciate it when the Gods of the world are fine with breaking their OWN laws to murder him. Lets not forget what happened: 20 Gods conspired to murder a mortal apostle of another God, murder and condemn to hell. They got caught and argued their case with "what's done is done, don't be crazy here fellas, we got a war to win"... and plenty of gods decided that's fine and wanted to let them off the hook. The actual neutral gods, and those that wanted to uphold their own laws are fine. It's only those that were glad Ben was dead and those that wanted a minimal punishment for the murderers. Meanwhile the gods he is actually on good terms with like Helori and Annalia can without a doubt ask him for a favor or two and he won't say no.

Silverraider05

Realistically, Eneth, or Eneth and Olensia should have been killed. They were the two most antagonistic gods against him, and will never NOT want to get back at him. They will try to do something at any chance they get. I am curious as to whether Duna was one of the 20 gods, as their name has not been mentioned.

Enxes

Yea Ben's treatment of Verbum could use some work but to be fair he is asking Killi permission to use Verbum.

Kallisti _

Delair will start lobbying for a field trip and you know it!

Kallisti _

Ben's going to need assistance once Steph finds out what happened...

Spicyice101

Well, in the god’s view, he was being very evil, but not really destructive. Now if he went for murder instead of imprisonment and taxes he might’ve gotten some destructive titled skills, but he didn’t, so he didn’t.

Kallisti _

He's saving them for Thera to kill, once that's a possibility for her. Such a sweet and thoughtful boyfriend!

Kallisti _

@Silverraider05: I was curious about that as well, since Duna was never mentioned by name during the Defeated Pantheon's meetings. However, even if Duna learned to not fuck with Ben and is *not* Defeated, I am 100% certain that they're in the Coward Pantheon as they surely still hate Ben.

demure

Given that he can be in multiple places at once, we could learn he was talking to her dirrectly while this went down.

demure

My impression is this is normal ben, as we have seen the whole time. The only difference, as ben himself said, is that the asshats have run out of goodfaith with ben.

Mare Matthews

“I get to experience WHAT!!! 🤩” “Delair, you need to be able to handle having over a million minds first.” “And you are being extremely stingy about teaching me how!”

Mare Matthews

I agree, and that’s saying something considering Ben was slicing and eating gods in front of them. Taxes are much more terrifying. 😂

Mare Matthews

He can be in multiple realms at once, and can Actualize bodies within his range. His range is significantly larger in non-mortal realms. He had to physically travel to the Communal Church, which is why he delayed letting anyone know he was back an hour. I short, Ben can’t immediately get an instance of himself to where Thera is in the mortal realm.

Mare Matthews

I do assume Anailia is transmitting very proud updates to her beloved daughter, and if Ben had common sense he’d tell Anailia where his body is so Thera the speed demon can head there. So, 50/50 chance of that.

Kevin1245

Not killing those God's or bare minimum taking them as soul crystals for training is a massive fumble. It just makes 0 sense to let these useless enemies live. It doesn't show the correct degree of deterrence and makes Ben look weak. You've set up the conflit with them for 600 chapters and the payoff is so lackluster.

Matt H

@Michigo I think you may have confused what group I was talking about. Ben's actions against the Defeated Pantheon fall pretty squarely under the umbrella of revenge considering they actively tried to kill him. What feels different is his actions with the Coward Pantheon. I don't have a particular issue with him forcing a tithe of faith to someone more likely to use it for the betterment of the world. What I DO have an "issue" with is his extracting a blessing from them. They didn't actively move against him; they "just" didn't act against his (apparent) killers. Does that make them innocent? Absolutely not, but it's disingenuous to put their actions on a similar level to the Defeated Pantheon. I would've vastly preferred to see Ben levy a heavier tithe on them in return for not extorting a blessing from them because that's much more in line with his established views on taking power for himself from those weaker than him (i.e. taking skills via Soulcraft).

Napalm078

'With arrangements made, an emergency meeting was called' >:) 'Instead, before them, another appeared, grinning broadly and sinking stomachs across the room.' >:) '“Silence.” Instantly, all of them stopped talking, and all of them felt the horror behind it. That hadn’t been an act of their own wills, but of Ben’s,' >:D Oh, he's so close to awakenig flavor enhancement. Maybe when he kisses Thera next 'CYCING LEVEL INCREASED' If he's getting these, is it time? 'SOUL ENHANCEMENT HAS AWAKENED TO EVIL GOD’S SOUL ENHANCEMENT' Interesting. 'Having gotten everything he’d wanted and impressed upon the divine that the pecking order of that planet had just changed, he bought the meeting to a close, once more showing the power he had over all of them by sending them each back to their realms, cementing the proper level of fear he wanted in his power as he did.' >:) Thank you for the chapter >:D

Napalm078

"You live without any for thousands of years." *You lived without any "Instantly, all of them felt points at the back of their necks where more Ben’s now stood" *where more Bens now stood Maybe without the apostraphe

Napalm078

He made the Coward Pantheon give what was normally required for a Tower blessing (not too much), while he made the Defeated Pantheon give him and Thera their full blessings.

Matt H

Alright, and why did Ben deserve that blessing? What did he do to earn that benefit? Because as it currently stands, it's hard to see why he shouldn't "borrow" any skill that he doesn't already have, awaken it, get the associated job, and then return it. After all, the inconvenience for the people in question would be "not too much".
