Miku and KISS (HD) + Simple Miku Proportion Evaluation

Let's talk about Simple Miku!

I have been drawing Miku for years and there have been almost 450+ illustrations of Miku from me right now. Despite the number, I still have more ideas and creativity to realize with Miku. I strive to keep honing my craftsmanship with digital illustration and the more I got into it, the more time needed for its execution. Having ideas kept pilling through my sketchbook and digital canvases while at the time I was busy with work, I decided to design a way to draw Miku in a manner that have very little time for execution.

As everyone probably has guessed, the drive to make Simple Miku came from the popular Rabbit Hole (Pure pure) animation by channel. However, I took a different approach with this mono lineart and flat color style. I combined the inspiration with the Neon Evangelion Genesis character's proportion. Maybe some came from the My Little Pony: Equestria Girl character's proportion where the leg is longer. I want to combine all these feelings into one proportion that captures the essence of how I draw Miku, making it simple, while keeping the beauty of all the mentioned inspirations. So I grabbed my pen and started to give it a go, the first Simple Miku illustration.

To achieve a solid and consistent style, I then do some proportion formulation with Simple Miku. Drawing her side view, how Miku looks when she sits, and the 'Vitruvian man' Simple Miku. The style however didn't get that consistent, the early time drawing Simple Miku, Miku would look thin and similar to the slender man or a stick man. Sometimes I drew it out of proportion and the consistency has derailed. It was too late to realize that this style needs to be exercised carefully.

So here I tried to evaluate the proportion based on the knowledge that I have learned throughout the years while adjusting it with consciousness to make it authentic. The result was surprising knowing the first Simple Miku illustration was the ideal proportion all along. So remember the 'Vitruvian man' Simple Miku? It was already off from there, just because tiny mistake in the measuring.

It is an interesting journey with Simple Miku and I think there is still more to discover. I will keep honing the design though, it is still far from my satisfaction. Maybe in the near time, I will test the design with other characters. You may have seen that I have done it with Frieren, Kiritan, and Luka, maybe I will implement the design with Pokemon trainer characters.
