Reverse the Negative Effects of Heat (Patreon)

Excess heat can cause a lot of long-term negative effects in the body and mind. The main ones are:
Kidney damage. This is one of the best-documented. Repeated dehydration and heat stress can cause lasting kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. There's a well-studied epidemic of this among agricultural and outdoor workers in hot climates (often called 'heat stress nephropathy' or CKDu - chronic kidney disease of unknown origin), affecting people like sugarcane cutters in Central America and South Asia.
Cardiovascular strain. Chronically making the heart work harder to regulate temperature is associated with higher long-term cardiovascular risk, and repeated heat stress may contribute to hypertension and heart disease over time.
Cumulative organ and metabolic effects. Repeated episodes of significant heat stress can leave lasting damage. People who survive severe heat stroke sometimes have long-term consequences, including neurological effects, and elevated vulnerability to future heat illness. There's also evidence linking chronic heat exposure to metabolic disruption.
Reproductive effects. Sustained heat exposure can impair male fertility as sperm production is temperature-sensitive, and chronic heat (occupational or otherwise) is associated with reduced sperm quality and count. Some research also links heat exposure during pregnancy to adverse birth outcomes like preterm birth and low birth weight.
Skin. Long-term heat exposure (not just sun) can cause a condition called erythema ab igne - a lasting mottled skin discoloration from chronic heat contact - and heat also contributes to skin aging.
Mental health and cognition. Prolonged exposure to hot environments and repeated poor sleep from heat is associated with chronic fatigue, ongoing mood problems, and cognitive strain over time.
The idea behind this field is to reverse all the negative damage of heat stress you might have experienced.
