Hello Dragons, First, WELCOME to the influx of new patrons I’ve seen this month! I hope you enjoy your time here and please check out the MASTERLIST to scroll through any old content and get FAQ info.

As many of you know the mid season finale was posted last week so I thought it would be a good idea to fill you guys in on what’s been happening behind the scenes since SZ returned 1 year ago. (Warning - this might get somewhat dark at times) I won’t lie, these last few months of uploads have been ….rough to say the least. It’s been a combination of overwork, unsatisfactory management decisions as well as trying as well as trying to top what I’ve done in the past.

As soon as the mid season finale was posted, about 1 day later came the news that the author of the popular Solo Leveling Webcomic had passed away from a chronic health condition (likely due to stress and overwork). I thought about the day prior as I was finishing the finale and had only gotten about 1 hour of sleep in 2 days or how I randomly cough or have a lump in my throat for what feels like no reason.  I think a great deal of my stress comes from this awesome yet constantly changing landscape of webcomics. About 2 years ago, webcomics would launch about once per week/per month and get weeks of promotion and exposure on the front banners.  I think a lot of comics that consistently rank in the top 10-20 were ones that launched during this time. Those of you who follow the app have seen a constant influx of comics where new stories hardly get 1 day of exposure. Having all these new series to promote, it makes sense why older comics like SZ don’t get as much exposure as they used to, but I have to say…. It’s been really hard trying to keep myself motivated when It feels like the platform ignores SZ to push content that only performs well for an initial period of promotion before falling off (This is my perception at least). The majority of series no longer get promoted when reaching exciting story beats and instead only upon launch of a new season or finale. I guess what I’m trying to say is that… despite trying to stay resilient though 150 episodes, pushing myself to make longer chapters, creating exciting/intense story beats, I don’t exactly feel…appreciated by the platform. (FYI I love you guys, this has nothing to do with the amazing readers who continue to support me!) There are also other things that contribute to this sentiment but I would rather not go into it.

Aside from reaching some low points during this season, It did make me go back to my roots and work on things that I deemed to be fun and entertaining. I found that being in a good headspace is what drives me to create fun storylines and enjoy my work the most.  I’m still very passionate about telling the story of SZ and sharing some exciting news with you guys (including a possible physical version of SZ cough cough, hints of a new story, etc.) but I’m really going to try to focus less on trying to stay relevant/popular in this climate and telling the story I enjoy! (There are so many things that will happen, I can’t wait to get to them). Overall, I’m very happy with what I’ve been able to accomplish with SubZero and I have you all to thank for that!

Now that I’ve gotten some rest, I’m going to go back to working on SZ stuff and sharing them with you guys here. I will be doing another Patreon give*away next month with shiny prints, stickers, etc, so stay tuned for the announcement.

Finally, I just want to say THANK YOU to those of you who continue to support me through my ups and downs. I always said my dream was to be a comic artist, but you’re the ones who make it possible for me to do so.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you <3

NOTE: I made this Nouris Doodle on my ipad! You can watch the PROCESS VID in the attachments!  :D

June, I am so happy you are taking the opportunity to rest and rediscover your joy. While I'm sure I'm not alone in being eager to find out what happens next in the Subzero world, your fans will always cheer you on and want what's best for you and your team. I hate that the platform has contributed to your low points and burnout. But talent like yours and your team's will always shine through. Whenever you feel discouraged or unacknowledged, just know you have created a beautiful, complex, and intriguing universe that drives away my Sunday scaries :) And I'm sure there are many, many more who feel the same way. I hope you are able to enjoy your break, and we will love to read what you have for us upon your return! 💜

Xeybhls

Hugs! We love and appreciate you and your story. Everything you going through is understandable. I seen many other creators feel the very same that the platform has seemed to abandon them. I

This is exactly why I have art and graphic design as a hobby and not a profession. SubZero is by far one of, if not my favorite comic on WebToon, and out of all the other comics I've read from across numerous platforms. I love SZ and the entire storyline, world building, characters, and their development. But I would hate to see SZ's story continue if it was at the expense of your health, and fiscally and mentally harming you. I hope you have an enjoyable break, it is definitely well deserved and overdue. 😊💖❤️🐉🔥❄️💜

Take care of yourself June! Do what makes you happy. You will still have loyal fans. SZ is my first and all time fav WEBTOON. ❤️

Real talk, I have such a deep respect for all of the webcomic creators out there 🙏🏻🙏🏻- the grueling hours y'all work so we have a bright spot in our week, it still breaks my heart 😥. Webtoon is a great platform from the reader perspective. But the more I learn about the process that they put y'all through in originals, my therapist side comes out and is like "WTF Webtoon, this is NOT healthy and NOT okay!" I wish they gave y'all more flexibility to make episodes at your own pace or at least offer a couple of different scheduling options. There is zero reason y'all should be getting so little sleep. And then to not promote your comic after working so hard? Not cool at all. 😤😤 I hope you're getting some rest and a breather. Please know we'll be here to support your story. 💜🙏🏻

Take care of yourself and remember that we love you so much and appreciate everything that you do for us from just updating us on yourself to sharing you story and imagination with us. Blessed be and stay healthy

Stacy

We love you, we appreciate you. Take care of yourself and do what you love!! Long live the dragons 🐉🐉

I am so sorry that you have been feeling this way and that the platform doesn’t treat you how you deserve. We will still be here if you need to take more time for yourself and we will continue to support you! Please listen to your body and take the rest and time you need 💜 Your artwork and story telling is amazing and I’m very excited to see where the story goes but also any future work that you do!

Rose Bear Killer

You are an amazing artist and storyteller! Please be sure to take care of yourself. Just remember that the platform that you update your story to wouldn't be where it is today without artists like you. You are amazing. Keep telling your story and enjoy telling it the way you want. Always remember your fans love you and want what is best for you. Again, take care of yourself, take all the rest you need to be healthy. ❤️

Anja

I totally understaffed what you're saying and agree totally! Your health is the most important thing, so please take care of yourself!

Kristanya Lyonette

Take what rest you need and do what is best for you! Your artwork and storytelling is masterful, and I will always support it as I have from the very beginning when I opened up that first chapter and was captivated by what I saw. Stay healthy and wishing ya the best!

Alison

Please always take care of yourself first! We will be here to support you no matter what! Sending lots of love!

Slap Banana

Please rest as much as you need AND always take care of yourself first. I'm not going anywhere! Lots of love, dear author!

SOPHIA A

I hope you get some rest and relaxation. Your health both mental and physical are what's important.

I agree with your view of the webtoon platform. I feel like there’s been favouritism for certain webtoons, and despite already having considerable media coverage by fans…the management still gives significant promotion. This takes exposure away from other creators who don’t have much social media backing. I’ve seen more Tiktok creators promoting webcomics more than the app. I always just assumed that like Facebook and Instagram, creators had to finance there own exposure through fees (ik I’m wrong). It’s disappointing that you feel overlooked, under appreciated and un-thanked by management seeing as your comic is always hitting the top 10 in my country, and that’s significant as Subzero is a webtoon original and isn’t being published on other apps. I’m glad your standing your ground and taking the rest that you need. Subzero is in your vision, and you’re right in not letting people exploit or undervalue the effort you put in. Thank you for the sincerity and wonderful artwork. We are all looking forward to the recovery of your health.

I want to thank you so much June for your perseverance and sheer honesty at this. I have been a reader since around episode 25. I have stuck around because your story and your art is original and filled with details. Not to mention that the level of detail never appears to go down at all. Not many creators have that level of talent. I know that churning out things on a weekly basis at your level is absolutely insane and I wish Webtoons would allow creators to have an update bimonthly instead. No creator should have to be sacrificing their sleep and health every single week to meet the weekly deadlines. I too have noticed how a lot more of comics that I have been a long time reader of have gone down in promotion. They need to fix that because many of my favorite creators have been doing this multiple years at this point and deserve the recognition that they have rightfully earned. But I want to thank you so much for providing us a beautiful story and how appreciated it is from your readers. I have been a patron for awhile because fast-passing just never felt like enough for you and your hard work. I hope you have a wonderful and well deserved hiatus June!

Abigail_Rose

You are awesome June! And we'd love to keep you around for a long time!! There's no subzero/beautiful artwork if you're not around. So please take care of yourself and know that we are always with you in the heart ❤️

Novelist Nickie

I love your art and story! I completely understand where you are coming from as a webcomic creator myself. Keep doing what's best for you and your health. Keep doing what brings you happiness. You are truly amazing. I look forward to what happens next.

Fallow

I do really worry about how hard WT pushes its creators and doesn't appreciate them :( I feel like I've seen a lot of chatter about this on Twitter and I hope they're taking note. We love what you create, but your health and wellbeing should be #1. You're not a machine to push out content, you're a human being that's kind enough to share your imagination with the world.

Yanette

I’ll support your work, regardless of digital or printed, regardless of the platform, and if it’s SZ or not. You’re an amazing artist and author ❤️ take care of you first then the rest can follow 😊

Michele M

I see the large amounts of content uploaded and can understand the frustration you must feel —-and it breaks my heart to think that such talented creators get overlooked so quickly; I adore SZ ; it was one of the first WEBTOONs I ever read and is still one of ab favs - get excited each week to fast pass! Take care of yourself though- YOU are more important thank your creations

J-Tee

I have a noticed a change in Webtoon and I am so sorry you are internally going through all of this. I just came back from a mini vacation (but not really because I was still checking emails and will be working when I am supposed to be on vacation because I am not feeling the support). Never apologize for taking care of yourself and know that there are so many rooting for you and supporting you in your work and imagination. You bring the characters to life and we would not be here if it were not for your storytelling and attention to detail.

Alaina Kramer

We all love you and your work!! We also want you to be happy and healthy too though so make sure you take time to relax and enjoy your passion!! 🐲

✨Star_Idol✨

I’m sorry you’re not getting the promotion you GREATLY deserve! This entire series deserves a wide audience. I hope one day I get to hold a copy of your work in my hands. I’m the mean time, I have noticed other artist pull away from Webtoons and more toward Patreon. If that were the case I wouldn’t mind upping my monthly pledge. I enjoy the updates, videos, and community. I say your mental/ physical health is most important. I’m here for the long haul. Please don’t feel guilty for putting yourself first. And thank you again for the amazing series ❤️❤️❤️

Katie Julian

I just discovered SubZero and it's truly an amazing comic. I recommend this webcomic to everyone I know. It's a shame they don't promote your comic like others I see ( and just saying I think SubZero is way better than the top ranking webtoon in every way. No shade intended just sayin). The art and story you are telling is incredible and I will stay a dedicated reader no matter how many breaks you take. I'm counting down the days till the story resumes in November! Till then, your Patreon content will hold me over 😅
