Good evening there dear Patrons. I hope you're all well. An update on the next Youtube video for those interested.

So with PUBG bullshittery out of the way on Thursday I've been free to begin the next project. And since that's now 3.5 bullshitteries in a row I was rather hoping to take another good stab at my long-term side project - the DayZ Critique.

I'm hoping to script, record and edit the 10th and final chapter. And either complete the whole video, or at least get to a stage where I can present all ten chapters in draft form to you. Then hear your feedback and let you assess whether you think it's a hit or a miss. Either way I hope you find it interesting. Or at the very least...different.

For the unfamiliar, over the last couple of years I've been steadily chipping away on a passion-project in the background, once every few months. A video essay talking about some of the many elements that made the DayZ Mod so interesting and how a lot of them were not well represented in 2013's DayZ Standalone. Leading to a lot of people's dissatisfaction with it.

I'm doing this because:

a.) I love video-essays. I watch them all the time. And I really wanted to give one a shot. I feel I've been inspired.

b.) I'm keen to diversify the content on the channel so things don't get stale.

c.) I was always dissatisfied with the "hurr it's taking too long" criticisms from my Youtuber peers. Such a great game deserves a more in-depth analysis.

At the base of this post I'll put a link to four of the working chapters for those curious. The others are still being reworked I'm afraid, bear with me.

So for this 10th and final chapter, I'm looking at the development process of DayZ through the lense of my own experiences as a Senior QA Analyst for a software company. Prior to becoming a Youtuber I worked with much of the same development methodologies that Bohemia are currently using, with many of the same processes. Even dusted off my old textbooks from back in the day :) So what I'm hoping to do in this chapter is properly explain the challenges they faced, their solutions, whether I think they made the right calls, and identify where I think they made obvious errors and what they were, hopefully whilst being much more rational than the typical horde of screaming Youtubers who have dominated the discussion about DayZ despite zero qualifications in actual development.

And so since Thursday I've been reading through and digesting the projects development blogs, stand up meeting notes, preview videos, press talks, and the standalone change-logs. And that process will continue until late this week, at which point I'm going to start working on the script. But already I've got SO much I want to talk about. And have been voraciously absorbing text over the weekend.

For those interested in some prior draft chapters to see what this project is:

Chapter 6/10 - https://youtu.be/We44N3Oubjk

Chapter 7/10 - https://youtu.be/H4JwoSQOZ0w

Chapter 8/10 - https://youtu.be/olbZbbGE4qM

Chapter 9/10 - https://youtu.be/RIYjA5nBhA0

TL;DR - I'm on pre-production for another DayZ video essay. By the end of this week I should be entering into a script and working out its structure and points/counterpoints.

Oh, in other news I'm properly doing the tags now. Those interested can click on the tags to see all previous posts for say...'bullshitteries' versus 'video essays'. Eventually cartoons, etc...if I can do multiple D&D ones and the planned Star Wars thing. Sorry I should have been doing that sooner tbh,

Nicky

Isn't it difficult to get back into doing these essays instead of working on it continuously?

Is there parts 1-5 in an earlier post? I know this is sneak peak/ critique and you may not want to show all beforehand, but I watched part 6 now I'm interested. As someone who's never been into video essays, my intrest is peaked

Nur_be2l

For how long have you been working on these videos ? It looks very interesting anyway, I hope people will like them as well

MrVengeance141

Sounds good Soviet, keep it up! I think it is the right move to move back to the DayZ critique.

Really looking forward to finally seeing all 10 parts of the video essay. Every part so far has been fascinating. It will be great to see all the parts done.

T8Mars

Sweet! I've been looking forward to the final part of this series! Take all the time you need on it, these kinds of videos can't be rushed or they end up shit :P

PizzaDiPasta123

Just finished watching part 6 and even as a girl who never played the game or anything I have to say - I kinda want to know more. I shall give the other videos a watch sometime this week possibly. Please carry on :)

I feel like this Joseph-Anderson-esque side of you is going to surprise a lot of people when these videos do go live 😀

OK, might I start off by saying that your voice in these videos is as smooth as silk. Quite the departure from the harsh angry voice that you get while shooting people in the face! Having not played the DayZ mod, nor the standalone, nor really any zombie or survival game whatsoever, I think these videos could really start to turn people onto the idea. To keep an audience though, you totally need to have those little jokes put in, be it in the background or just straight in front of us. Does it need more or less then what you put in? Unsure. Too many could distract us from the points you are trying to get across. Too few would just leave us with a boring documentary of some nerd on the internet spouting words at us. Having watched these 4 videos (mostly sober) it leads me to so many questions on your opinion on this or that on how they did things. Unfortunately, YouTube is a really horrible place to hold a discussion (IMO) and it makes me wonder what to do with all these words in my head now! So yeah, umm, that's just a couple thoughts I had about them. Keep up the hard work, and just ignore all those demanding more bullshitteries.

I really love this idea Womble its a "fresh breeze", not that I was getting tired of your other videos they are still hilarious <3, but it really glows through that you enjoy doing this type of videos as well and I think that all of us who really support you don't care how long it takes or what kind of videos you do because we all know its worth the wait in the end cause of your hard work and dedication.
