Sorry this took a bit longer than anticipated. I've finished the rework to the first chapter of the DayZ critique video-essay series: 01 - Introduction & Early Access. And it can be found here for those interested.

Structure wise things should be greatly improved. As now there's much less of a reliance on list-making, owing to the experience I've now accrued creating video-essays. And I was able to play with After Effects, producing some more advanced visuals. Plus the narration is much less monotone than it was before. I'm confident the quality is much more in-line with the later parts of the series, bringing it all one step closer to completion.

Additionally, on reviewing section 02 - History, I realise that it's not too bad structurally speaking. To the point that I don't mind unlisting the draft once again. I definitely want to re-voice it again though, bringing my narration down a couple of octaves, trimming out some silly jokes and tightening some parts here and there.

The real pain point is the third chapter, 03 - Activities in DayZ.

That one was one of the first chapters written and my inexperience really shows. I need to set a side some time to re-do that entirely, as the quality is well bellow an appropriate standard. And of course, 04 - PvP Balance and 05 - Farming will need some tightening also. But that'll be at a later date.

So to surmise, for those interested, eight of the thirteen chapters for the video-essay are currently available. And you're welcome to leave any thoughts in the comments. And thank you kindly:

As for right now, I'm going to make an immediately start on the next Space Engineers bullshittery. I'm currently in the process of moving the footage onto the main hard-drive and well get started right away.

Once again, thank you for indulging me as I fiddle with the crayons on my wee passion project :) And if you have any feedback do let me know.

Oh, I think I caught any mistakes. But if you spot any whoopsies feel free to let me know. It shouldn't take much to do a quick-cheeky-rerender. Fresh eyes will certainly be able to spot things I've likely not noticed. And thank you!

The current YouTube title doesn't mention anything about DayZ. Not sure if the public title does. Otherwise, love the vid. Glad you're doing something for your own sake to stay sane rather than burning out trying to keep the whining masses appeased.

A good start to the video essay series. Really enjoyed it, all clips timed perfectly, little animations work very well, and the audio is clean and crisp with clear enunciated dialog. Very very good! One note though, the clip at 4 mins in when you're talking about the uniqueness and open world with no rules, the clip showing someone seemingly tense, we don't really see why, and at the end of the clip, a bug of a dead persons gun, 10 feet in the air. Just thought maybe roll back the clip a second or so, then we can see the thing that made the person tense, and not the flying gun at the end. Just an idea. Overall, great work sir

Hey that was good, i really enjoyed it! Is it still going to be divided in roughly the same way? Felt like that 16 min flew away way too quickly

Hi Soviet, I personally don't understand why you want to get all 13 done before releasing them. Most video essay channels don't complete an entire series before releasing the first episode. I think if you wait until you get all 13 episodes done it might be an entire year before any of them see the light of day. I think the longer you wait to release any of these videos, the less relevant they will be when they finally do go live. That's just my view on the matter, and I understand its your channel and you're free to run it however you want. In either case, i really enjoyed the first episode and I think you've made a lot of progress in your video essay skills. Thanks for the great work, as always

noooo~! If you somehow fail to release the entire thing you'll never hear the end of it!

Feedback, just about audio: At around 05:31, with the word ´afterwards´, got a feeling of it being added afterwards the original sentence was recorded. The part around the 8-minute mark, it differs in the sound (quality?), when “highlight bugs” is said. Or that you were closer to the mic. It’s like, after you said “feedback to the dev.team” that it move to another recording of listing what kind of feedbacks. At the end, 16:39, hard cut in audio is noticed and when saying “floodgates” the audio quality is bad/close to the mic. ------- Loved it. So much better at explaining the problem with early access, than I’ve ever succeeded with when trying to persuade friends not to jump on the train, and why defending early access as “not complete” is wrong. Side-minirant: Just as the same with games that have open Betas a week/days before release. People seem to think that “it’s just a beta, they’ll fix it when launched”.

I'd love to see a separated video about programming which digs deeper into programming methods like agile, scrum, programming structures / modules and planning of larger scaled programs - not based on source codes or specific programming languages. For me it was and is a hard step to plan new programs to be later adaptable to larger scales with more functions right from the start.

All links are private now :( Any chance we get the Development stuff back online? Especially the SCRUM video? It was awesome and I'd love to re-watch it.
