Good morning everybody. Thank you for taking part in the poll. I'll do a follow up post in a moment about that :)

Over the last week though, I've been doing something  completely different. Attempting to fix a very problematic piece of the DayZ video-essay series.

For those not familiar, I occasionally disappear to work on a semi-private series in a completely different format from the bullshitteries - a video-essay critique on the DayZ Standalone. Partly because it helps reduce editor burnout by doing something new (just as I did with the horror thing), but mainly because I've been so dissatisfied with the dialogue on Youtube about what happened back then that I wanted to eventually fix it.

Over the last week, I've been working to fix part 3/10 - Activities of DayZ, which proved in hindsight to be woefully constructed, due to my inexperience at the time.

I've made a draft version that you're welcome to review. In which most of the audio has been complete, but the visuals are still quite bare bones.

I've spent about 1 week on it, but it needs at least another 3. I was going to do lots of fancy animations and diagrams. Add lots of background music. That sort of thing. But it's presentable for now, though please excuse the jank.

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have any. Particularly when it comes to the broad structure and whether or not you can follow my points. And thank you in advance, the feedback is very helpful :)

Hi! I was looking to rewatch the Patreon only drafts of the video essays but the links don’t work anymore. Is this intentional?

Hey Soviet! I'm just curious as to if all the links that you have provided, wich ones are complete, and wich ones are still open to constructive criticism. Thanks and keep making your amazing content!!

Daniel Z.

first of all, thanks for the Links (again), now I know what to do over the weekend :D while watching Part 3, I really miss the good old times, playing the DayZ Mod. In those days, it was special... Don't get me wrong, I still love DayZ Standalone, but the mod had a special feeling, I miss it. Thanks for keeping us up to date on your video-essay :) I'm really looking forward to the day, this essay series will be finished :) greetings from germany and please give Lulu a nice saturday belly rub with my best wishes :) xoxo P.S. I really love your voice :D it's so relaxing to those essay videos :D

I live for these essay videos, thanks for the update Womble! I hope these can be a lesson for the next DayZ like experience, if there ever is one.

Part 3 has some really good points and analogies, and there doesn't seem to be any gaping holes in your reasoning. I would however restructure the last part to a more "Here is what could happen to Minecraft," rather than the current "Listen up Microsoft." The reason is that in certain parts of the essay you sound like you are telling the developers what they did wrong. Not explaining and exploring the reason for the mistakes they made. Wich in this case comes of as a bit self centered, wich doesn't really fit the video essay format in my opinion. But hey! That is just my take on it, looking forward to the next stream annyway.

Hi Soviet! Do you plan to make subtitles for essay videos that could be turned on / off in the settings? It is in case you have written text that you are voicing.

GumballBob

oh wow this one is really interesting, very strong opening and ending, much better than the old version. Bloody well done Soviet.

I've watched the first two and I really appreciate not only your humor in it, but the way you carry ideas and information across. It's brilliant, Womble!

Midnight Matter

All the lovliness. I almost wonder if one of the episodes you do a patreon-only livestream and collect community thoughts on the standalone. I have no idea how that would be done or if that'd be too chaotic, but t'is just a thought.

Just got around to watching all these, damn dude I knew you were a clever chap but I was so engrossed in what you had to say and I felt like I learned more of the development process!
