Good evening folks. I hope you've had a lovely weekend.

I'm very pleased to see that the Holdfast Bullshittery is well received. It was always going to be hit or miss, as it's a little bit niche. But I'm very glad to see that people seem to want more highlights. I shall absolutely provide.

Since that bullshittery I've been swimming through the hard-drives and text files. Doing a bit of data-management. It's all very unsexy. But it needs to be done or it all becomes a confusing mess of "wait, where did I save those streams?"

Before I delve right into the the next bullshittery I wonder if you'll permit me to work on some video-essay stuff for a bit?

I was hoping to take a stab at getting the first three pieces of the DayZ Critique public on the channel? Doing so would be a good way to gauge interest for the rest. And counter the burnout that naturally comes from editing the same thing all the time.

If you'll permit me, I'd have three goals to do on three videos:

01 - Introduction & Early Access - Just polish up a couple of fixes. Not much.

02 - History of Arma and DayZ - Re-voice as my narration was a bit pants, to be honest. I mumbled in places. Already recorded last night, just needs to be cut. No change in visuals.

03 - Evolution of the DayZ mod - Audio already done, just need to do the visuals for about 40 minutes of video. Should be fun.

Please let me know what you think in the comments. For those not familiar at all, I recommend you have a look at the post I made just prior to the pandemic, which explains all about the DayZ thing, and contains a links to a bunch of draft renders you might find interesting.

Have a lovely upcoming week everybody!

I think that’s a brilliant idea especially with dayz having the wider audience at the minute with Xbox game pass and the pc game

Miles Berthiaume

This sounds like it would be great you definitely have the voice for it

Zombiekrabbe

I always found the DayZ drafts fascinating. So I‘d say go for it.

Lewie Camp

Hell yeah! It’s always nice to change things up for a bit. We all look forward to it!

You should not ask us for "permission" to do anything related to your youtube content in my opinion. We pay you for the privilege of getting early access to it and of course support your work at the same time. If you feel like you want to work on the video essay do so and we will gladly follow along in the process. I hope I speak for the majority of the community with this statement. Cheers!

TheDerangedWatermelon

I'd say absolutely make the video essays! I know I've been hoping for some since you first started talking about it, so there are probably a fair number of your fans who would like to see them!

PizzaDiPasta123

Go right ahead. You've been working on these for so long, should be a nice feeling to actually finish some of the essays. I don't really understand much about DayZ because I've never played it and it's not my type of game. But I've really enjoyed watching the drafts. And I like listening to you talk. So... yeay :D

The Ferret

More DayZ critique sounds like an excellent plan, those are always really fascinating fun.

Salt Titan

Work on the DayZ essays for sure, I know you've been wanting get those out for ages.

Blindasabat67

I already love the essays so cant wait to see the finished article. Crack on Soviet.

Trevor Bostian

Passion projects are important to everyone, especially to people who are creative for a living. Please work on them for a while.

Joe Elliott

Id say go for it, definitely!

As a guy who spent close to 10 years as a sort of figurehead in the DayZ community (head admin of DayZ Underground for almost its entire existence) I have been dying to hear your thoughts on the game. You came from the Mod like I did (though you seem to have enjoyed Epoch more than I did, I was Vanilla guy) and I'm really curious how some of us old-timer DayZ players feel about the current state of the standalone. My own position is one of disappointment, which was one of the major factors in me leaving the whole thing behind, and I feel like we'll share a number of the same opinions on the game whether or not we come to the same conclusion. By all means homie, do it up!

Dylan Dubach (Banker)

i love your day-z bullshittery video's and anyhting to do with that game so go for it

Dear sir, I rarely write here or on Twitch bc I'm a lazy socially awkward hermit. :) But the point is I also think that working on (maybe finishing, haha) this project is a good idea but please reconsider a voice do-over. When you released the "almost finished" versions I watched everything and I have to say you did a good work. When I finished I had this feeling that I really missed something not playing with the Day Z. It was informative and interesting so what's wrong the voice? Well, you sad a year or 2 earlier and you also mentioned here that you had to record these during the night because of the background noises. It makes sense of course but -I believe because you didn't want to yell late night- your voice was a bit flat/stale, it lost all the PASSION what you feel towards this game/genre. And if somebody who watched one of your stream when you talk about Day Z can immediately spot the difference. (And for fuck's sake it's not a rant if you passionately talk about a topic which is close to your heart and making a valid point! :D ) Of course maybe I'm wrong but maybe it's worth to ask the people here or ask somebody whose opinion is matter for you about this. Tl;dr: Yeah, go for this project it's fucking good but maybe do a more passionate/ more 'you' voice record. Cheers :) PS: I'm pretty sure that I fucked up the spelling, the grammar, etc somewhere but I'm old / It's late / I'm blind / the dog ate my homework / I'm tone-deaf / English is not my first language / insert random excuse which explains "everything". Well, sorry about that

It would be awesome to see the DayZ video essay start to make it onto the channel so I am 100% for this plan!

Christian Rowland

Go for the essays soviet. I personally enjoy your video essays alot.

Justin Cox

Episode 1: Oh, ok, not long. Episode 2: Alright, just some cutting. Episode 3: FOUR-TENS of minutes to record and edit? By jove, it'll be 2030 before the next Bullshittery at this rate! In all serious, I enjoyed the video essays and wish for you to press onward with them, as every year that passes muddles things and more difficult to properly keep context and relevance. (He says, as he queues up another Mass Effect related video series.)

xynz

Sure you can go ahead with the video essays, just fix your upload schedule 🤣. Personally I don't really mind you taking your time to release your videos, just keep doing what you're doing.

JPJones

Yes! Get those videos released! Aside from the criticism, they provide some great insight into the fundamentals of software development in addition to pointing out many of the most common pitfalls in a lighthearted, entertaining way. You already have a wonderfully refined narrating voice and 'stage' presence thanks to all the practice you have streaming (It's a radio show, as you put it). Throwing a video essay project up now and then seems only natural at this point.

Sarah

sure, go ahead, that sounds good! if you need a proofreader or sth like that, just let me know :)

youngstormlord

Will you tell a story how you met Cyanide in one of those essays?

drslagathor

Go for it Soviet! I’m really looking forward for it to watch. I was wondering if you’ve ever considered going on vacation for two or three weeks compared to the „only“ one week break between the projects?
I know two or three weeks is quite a lot regarding the upload schedule and due to Corona this isn’t an option at the moment.
But at least in my opinion a longer vacation would be long overdue.

Gumbojones

Spend a whole month on them bud, its about time you finished one of them

Palatine Joe

How do I share the dumb art i made in 2017 that birthed my dumb meme name? Some one younger than me cough’Soviet’cough refuses to get hip and create a Discord server

Zombiekrabbe

Just saying. That Holdfast vid, blew up the Playerbase MASSIVELY. It really refreshed the community and filled many servers. It's much more chill, banter and fun. Like the old days. So cheers for that. Looking forward for the DayZ things.
