Good afternoon everyone. I hope you're all having a nice week. Cor blimey is this year going quickly. I can't believe it's already October. My mum asked me for Christmas present ideas the other day. I would like to return to normal time please :S

On the editing front, it's day 17 on my attempt to get three video-essays up onto the channel. And I can report that part 1 (16 minutes 30 seconds) and part 2 (11 minutes and 13 seconds) are ready. Part 3 (40 minutes and 47 seconds) has about 20 minute left to edit.

So that's about 68 minutes of footage and 47 minutes complete. 70% of the way through.

A breakdown of each video:

01 - When early access to too early: (16 minutes 30 seconds)

So after some audio tinkering and a little bit of cutting for brevity, this one should be ready to go. A brief introduction. And talk about the pitfalls of early access when it's too early/not representative of your final product -  https://youtu.be/vqD4kSCAHEQ

02 - The history of the DayZ mod: (11 minutes 13 seconds)

So this one has been entirely re-voiced. As previously I felt I was too imprecise with my narration. Speaking too quickly and flubbing words here and there. Plus a handful of new scenes cut to better illustrate the topics being discussed - https://youtu.be/CXgnAvJKkDM

03 - Evolution of the DayZ mod: (40 minutes 53 seconds)

This is where the bulk of the work is currently going. Here's a screenshot of the timeline. And the link to the previous audio-only draft:

So what I'm trying to do is make a series of important visual compositions in Adobe After Effects. And then sandwich some filler footage in between for things that don't necessarily need visual guides. So far so good really. Alas, I sometimes feel like I run out of ways to say "editing is proceeding as normal".

I am a little worried about that dip towards the end of the timeline there. That's a bit of a complicated bit, cut to music. I may have to get onto that pronto or risk it consuming too much time as QA approaches.

But yes! So far, so good. Thanks again for giving me the time to do this. Let me know if you spot any whoopsies in the first two parts.

Thanks again!

Actually, I may do a quick cheeky re-render of that part 1. I think my voice gets a tad too loud in the last third. I think I missed an audio adjustment layer :S

Daniel Z.

how do you want to release them to the "public" ?? all at once or part by part?

Walter Onil de León Arrambide

I feel like part by part would help ease the "lack of content" people give shit for, but doing it too fast would make people believe you have more content "done and just saving up" which would cause a wrong impression. I'd say either all in one go, or one per week.

I sort of remember watching the early videos some years back and some of my bigger bugbears were the over reliance on Warcraft and the videos, while being informative, weren't reflective of EA games at the time. I would need to watch the original to the new to really remember. That said, from memory, I think you've updated the video rather well showing more EA games and how they were also marketed as one thing but became another, or failed. A good lead into what your showing while also keeping the visuals to what your base expects.

I enjoyed both videos, very well done <3 I agree, around 10:05 in part 1 your voice seems to be getting a bit louder in general, but the music gets even louder, so its kinda distracting... And in part 2, the music transitioning around 3:50 felt a bit weird, it just kinda cuts off in the middle of your sentence... but maybe thats just me :D But I spotted no typos, yey :)

I agree with the audio adjustments you want to make. Otherwise 1 & 2 seem quite well done. Crack on, bud.

To be honest, I didn't watch the videos with an editing eye because:

(whoops) that's not my forte. I was thoroughly entranced by this insight into the game creation industry. Admittedly, I wondered if Darwin would appreciate the correlation between his finches and game development. I think you're selling yourself short if you're saying this video ready is about DayZ. This is a dissertation about the evolution of games that all developers need to see. Thanks for sharing

Hey Womble, looking good so far. However, and this may just might be me, but i kinda feel like part 3: 18.10-24.30 is maybe a bit too much off track, considering you mention you want to go off topic for a minute, and then spend an extra 6 on it. The content is fine and informative, but i think it might fit better in another one of the chapters/parts (tbh can't remember if you touched upon the subject in one of the other parts) Anyways, hope you can use the feedback, and remember to give Lulu lots of belly rubs :)

Well, early access on BG3 is definitely shit so advise against it until the game is complete. I thought it would be similar to their two famous games but no. Nononononot at all. Garbage in its current form.
