Good morning folks. Do you have a moment to give me your opinion on something?

With that Arma bullshittery finished, I'm likely going to create another couple of parts to that Womble's Soapbox video talking about the DayZ Standalone (drafts 1, 2 and 3 are here). There are roughly 6 more parts to go, talking about some of the misconceptions the standalone made about the DayZ mod.

My original plan was to work on segments between bullshitteries. But honestly, I'm now just tempted to disappear for 8-10 weeks to try and get it finished. I'm worried that my constant mentioning of it is over-hyping it and that it's going to take so long people will lose interest. Or the points will lose relevance.

Also, it coincides well with the arrival of my puppy Lulu in 10 days (I'm so excited!!). Who will likely throw my timetable off as I adjust to her routine.

I'll still be around for the regular daily streams. And you'll still get constant updates on progress and release of new videos as normal. It just means that, to the public, I'll disappear entirely for 8-10 weeks.

POLL - Do you think this is a good idea?

Great idea, Womble. Just don't let the "When's the new video" losers get to you xoxo

Mike Roibu

Voted, but: honestly, I don't think it's an issue so long as streams are still a thing (mainly because I watch them). What I do think however is that I hope this isn't a regular occurrence.

Maestro

I think it's a very good idea, yes. The talking points are likely not going to get more valid as time passes and that's a good thing! So get it out "now", otherwise there's going to be another segment clearing up previous segments in light of recent developments.

Lee Gavin

I think it's a good idea to take time to produce good work, Will LuLu distract you too much though? ( through daddy love/new father syndrome) to concentrate on the editing and find yourself in the same situation? And once you do release a video after the period will you have a buffer off work you can release, or will you have no made content apart from the 1/2 videos? But that may not matter (Slendermam_lee)

HeatedPillow

Hey Womble, Maybe do 1 or 2 soapbox parts and then cs:go video? They are pretty popular, and everyone would be happy i guess. Even those ,,when's new video" people :D

Romeo

If I may chip in, I'm not in your position to dictate what is best for you since obviously I'm not the one making the content, but I respect your creative freedom with regards to making videos. If it puts your mind at ease in finishing this, then go for it. I also think having backlogs while making monthly bullshittery videos will haunt you and hopefully getting the backlogs done is plucking the thorn off your side. Best of luck!

General Grudge

I honestly think your strength is making the kind of videos you have been making and getting them out in a reasonable amount of time. 8-10 weeks can seem like a lifetime to more casual followers of your you tube channel and it might suffer if it lacks content for that long a time. Also the longer you take on this DayZ passion project the less relevant it becomes. That said.. I am fine if you do what makes you happy.

RevanFarron

Depends on you really. There's not much point in choosing an option that turns to stress or pressure. If getting the soapbox out the way would be more a relief then go with that. Would also allow you to focus on Lulu. Just dont let the kids bitching get to you. The bullshitteries are always going to be the best received but that doesnt mean you have to be a slave to making just that. Do what you want. Its not like your YouTube subs are gonna drop from you not posting for 8 weeks. Anyone who actually complains will get over themselves.

Dafko

IMHO if you can make some short bullshittery video(s) from "games" (like soldat or fishing planet) that'll satisfy youtube followers and you can primarly focus on these rant videos :)

Emil G

If we get the different parts when they are finished, it shouldn't feel too different for us Patreons with a new video every two weeks or so. Would suck for the public though. Imo, you should shorten it. 90 minutes is just too much.

Lyzair

Even though I will miss your videos for the time being, I'll get a veeery long one afterwards :D We still have the streams so it will be fine. But maybe work 4-5 weeks on the rant and then do a short 2-3 minutes video and then finish the rant. And I expect many Lulu things :3

Thinh Nguyen

I vote No even though it is totally fine for me. I mean to the loyal supporters like me, it should be no problem at all waiting for a complete highly entertaining and informative video. But from a creator point of view, 8-10 weeks might be a bit too long for some people. Views are important for you Womble. I would suggest you to have at least a video between that 8-10 weeks, something that makes people happy and will be able to satisfy them for a while like a CS video for example (hint hint). It might be too much work for you, I am not sure. Anyway, keep up the good work mate.

Deadmw84

if you keep up the streams and post lulu videos everyone will be happy with that. but if you fully dissapear on us then we are not happy... i voted too early before thinking more about it and i voted no. But like i say if you keep the streams going and post lulu pictures and videos... people will be happy with that

Karl Pedersen

I say go for it. If you feel like people are harassing you for more content maybe start slowly creating another Arma video or just ignore them. To me a good idea would be to say nothing about it for a few weeks, blame the lack of uploading on Lulu and then boom! Rant video. That way, people wont be so annoyed that they waited for 8-10 weeks to get a video they think makes you LeafyIsHere and dislike it and give it a bad rep. If you dont mention WHAT you are working on people will go into the rant video more unbiased instead of going in with an opinion already formulated in their heads. But thats just my opinion, do whatever you feel works :)

Tina Stormcaller

I like the Soapbox content so far. The more serious presentation counterpoints the more comedic videos you release. I would say, take a hiatus to finish everything, but folk on the Internet are impatient assholes, so make sure your communication to your followers is clear, concise, and provide periodic updates to make sure subscribers know that the channel is still active and content is still being developed.

chris courtney

I think its a good idea to get the big project done :) although it would be nice to get a short video of you playing with lulu :)

Vague attempt to sound smart and unique in a single line username

So the main issue from what I can see is youtube presence itself. Obviously patreon is what supports you, but people come to this via youtube. Not having new content for nearly two months is a long time for youtubers and I'd be careful of that as it might have a long term effect to the channel

William Booth-Clibborn

I think you should have a go at finalising the first episode and posting it and asking thr question to the YouTube audience as well since that would be a much larger demographic compared to your patreons

Sebastian Aschwanden

Dear Womble, firstly I would like to congratulate you on your newest bullshittery. Definitely one of your best works so far! I especially enjoyed the fact that the video was mainly driven by your personal humour and wit. Although we all adore your ZF friends and love seeing them in the bullshitteries, everybody watching your Twitch streams knows that you're an extremely humorous individual who's able to create hundreds of hours of joyful and funny material. Regarding the progression of the soapbox videos, I have voted yes (REMAIN) on the poll mainly due to the arguments you have made above and I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes of the soapbox video. Nevertheless, a few people voiced their concern about your yt channel becoming less and less popular when disappearing for 2 months with which I partially agree with. YT attention is kind of important and I personally want you to be become bigger and more influential. I do understand that since you're financing your content through Patreon and Twitch donations, you don't have to care about YT hype as much as other creators do. However, I personally would love to see shorter videos taken from your current Twitch streams at least during that time period. They do not have to be bullshitteries but rather 2-3 minute videos, as an examples summarising the life-and-death struggles of your past and current Rimworld colonies (the streams were fucking hilarious tbh). Whatever you decide to do, I know it's going to be great and eventually end up being prime entertainment. Love, Sebastian

Reading the comments, it also sounds like you'll stop streaming in that time too. If this is the case, I vote Nay. But if you're gonna go YouTube silent for that time, then I'm not sure. Remember when you were gone for a month and you got a fair amount of flack from the community. We were okay with it, but another patron here mentioned that it's not just us you have to appease, even though we're paying for you content. Even it's just minor highlights of the weeks that were funny and stitched together (not a full-out bullshittery), it would satisfy those who want content. It's instant gratification and spoils the audience, but for the non-paying public who made your channel more well known, it will keep them happy if you want them to be. Best compromise than to go all dark might be to only have night streams (you probably want to play some causal games in the down time anyway) and work the mornings. We're excited for the soapbox, but as patrons, we're patient. But I don't think it would be great for you PR wise. This is all if you care about what the public thinks of you, but since your ZF, this might mean nothing.

Yehu Poop

Do whatever you feel like doing! I could criticize this decision and give you a bunch of advice why not to not do this, I could also do the opposite, but it eventually just all comes down to whether you actually want to do it or not. I do think that if you basically dissappear from YouTube for normal viewers (those who don't watch twitch streams or are patreons) you owe them an update video.

Holy n Evil

Me wanna more movies and stream :P

David Løvsjø Viken

I get more and more hyped for every part i watch of the DayZ video. I think it will be great and well received, seeing how much work you're putting into it. With that being said, I think you should schedule your time as you feel it benefits the video best. It has already been in work for a relatively long time (just my opinion btw), and while I don't doubt your skills, it would be a let down compared to the hype if its rushed at the end. So to try and round up my thoughts; take your time, adjust your schedule as you see it best, make sure you're happy with the result. I don't think people won't abandon your fan base because you're focusing on a project for a bit :)

HankJMoody

I agree with some of the other comments here, in as much as I'd like to see you continue to do whatever the hell you like. But, I also think it'd be interesting to see a different style of video from you. Up until this point, it's been pure Bullshittery and the occasional odd .AVI video (the bath mat one is my favourite, as it never fails to annoy my lesbian). But it'd be cool to see what else you can do, and given the previews we patrons have seen, I think it'd be pretty awesome! Edit: Also, yes. Lulu videos will tide most of the masses over if you do decide to do the Soapbox video.

Niax

It might be a good idea to get part one out to the public to set up for the series Womble's soapbox, then at the end have the patreon link and add a small thank you for everyone's support etc. That way you encourage people to visit the patreon and if they support they will find out where your plan are. Love the comedy and ideas presented in the soapbox. I look forward if you decide to take an analytical look at other games as well.

Dear Womble, I would like to emphasize on an issue not many people have talked about, the puppy. Don't get me wrong, it is an amazing experience for you and you this pup will become your best friend for life. But i just want to make sure you know that pups take a lot of time and care. Pups have a small bladder and almost no bladder control so you will have to teach lulu how to go to potty which can take some time depending on the dog. That's without mentioning that pups really like to explore and it will take you some time to adjust your home for it so it doesn't hurt them somehow. My first pup liked to chew on electric cables so it took some training to stop that. One more thing, you need to establish a routine for your dog, and not the other way around. This will also take some time getting used to but you should be fine with a little help if this is your first dog. Don't be afraid to consult vets and dog trainers whenever you feel like you are facing some issues. I've been training dogs for some time and had 5 in my life so i'll be more than happy to help you with that. Now onto the video thing: I believe that 8 to 10 weeks is a lot of time for people that keep looking for new content to enjoy. I think that even a small video would be enough to keep the public entertained for a bit. In the end of the day, you do what you're good at, but i believe this will hurt your PR a little bit.

Cawky16

Your videos have always been extremely fun to watch because they were never forced. You aren't just churning out content for the sake of making content, every video has some sort of meaning or purpose. Whether it's a project you're working on, or just a game you're really into at the moment, they always come out with an air of authenticity. I'd say just keep doing you. Maybe over the next 8-10 weeks you'll stream something you really want to get a video out for, and your direction will change for a week or so to get it done. Perhaps you could release shorter montages of funny stream moments just to have the odd video release if the moments present themselves. Otherwise you could release a video to the public stating your intent to try a longer series that will take some time, that you'll still be streaming regularly and will send updates on Lulu, but that the Bullshitteries will stop for a short while as you make this big release. Just keeps your fans in the loop with what you're up to and sparks some excitement for something different. Just my 2 cents, just make sure you're enjoying whatever you're producing because that's half the reason they turn out so good.

cathe

Definitely do the break. You'll keep streaming so the majority of your activity will still be going on. Streams are what the youtube videos are made of anyway. The only downside to all of this will be the increase of people turning up late to every stream asking the same question; "wheres the youtube videos?". Despite you explaining it every stream beforehand. Besides that theres no negatives, as long as the streaming stuff doesnt completely disappear and stuff. I honestly don't know how you deal with so many repeated questions tbh

Mattlob

What Cawky16 says is right, you especially need to release a video to the channel explaining the situation to slow the amount of questions about it. You also seem to need to do this personally so you should because it may make it easier to make videos. I simply mean because then the extra videos aren't bugging you because they aren't made yet.

Alexander McCormick

I think it is highly likely this is a bad idea, and I think you should really take a middle road here. Rather than disappearing completely, I think you should do one small video or smth after every 2 parts you finish. It just seems bad from an activity standpoint.

AndyLamb

If you stop, numbers will drop, and it will be difficult to get back up again for a while, keep the momentum if you can.
