First off: sincere apologies for missing the mid-month post for January. That one turned into a crazy month for me. And for my country, turns out. Ugh. But hey, things are better now! At any rate, I'm just going to confess life got a little too busy and before I knew it I was well past the 15th and figured I'd try to make up for it at the end of the month...

...and then I had a couple migraines. BUT! Here I am!

I'm still working on my Good-Intentions-In-Space space opera story. Kelly Toki continues to provide great reference material for my aliens, so I thought I'd share some finished stuff. Here we have more of the Yiseeph and Gankriid, this time developed into their natural color variations and some fashion hints.

You know what's hard about writing space opera and sci-fi settings? Fashion. I never know just how much or how little to describe. Sure makes it a lot easier when an artist can just show me what's in my own brain.

Good Intentions short story incoming for the patron tier! Thank you all for your support!

For fashion in writing sci-fi, I totally agree. It's so hard to see what someone is wearing when so much brainpower is going into just having a clear sense of what an alien and/or the sci-fi setting looks like. Then there's the problem of what to even call clothes. Is it a shirt, a harness, a wrap, a bandoleer? Is simply calling stuff "armor" good enough? How do you convey the way clothing looks and an alien's silhouette? How do you describe something that doesn't fit the known human forms of clothing? I've wrestled with all that. And then there's the materials bit. Like in that third pic with Gankriid clothing, on the far left. Do you call that gold, brass, bronze, or something else entirely? You don't have to answer any of that. I'm just empathizing with the challenges.
