Hello again!

Writing a book never feels like it's going fast enough. I wrote the original Good Intentions on Literotica at lightning speed, as it turns out—because I had no idea what I was doing, my expectations were low, and I was getting constant positive feedback on the internet. (That part is basically crack, if it's not obvious.) Since then, everything has felt... slow. Too slow. Slower, too, when I consider that these days, my writing creates my income.

Time is money, and everything takes too damn long.

So it made me super happy the other day when I remembered a good measure for my progress on Grand Theft Sorcery. I recalled telling my editor I was at 51k words, so I looked back at our chat and found the date: Jan 15th.

As of Feb. 29th, I'm at 91k words. That, by my standards, is really good progress... and I feel like I'm picking up steam. In considering all the ground I still want to cover, the book may only be at its halfway point, so I don't know when this book gets done and printed. Regardless, it's moving much faster as I get into it. For a book with lots of chase scenes, that feels appropriate.

Here's Chapter Seven. Enjoy!

Good stuff! Glad to hear that you’re racing along. Although I hope you haven’t put “professional vacation” aside. I’ve really dug it so far

Every Chapter makes me even more excited for this.

Every writer I know of writes at their own speed and with their own pacing. I know writers who can push out a novel in a month, but then it's a (by today's standards) shortish 80k, and it doesn't include any downtime afterwards. Just because someone can write 3k in a day doesn't mean they can write 3k every day. But to borrow a mantra from the Lois Bujold mailing list: Write Elliott, write! Now I have this amusing picture of you researching the street racing culture through trolling internet forums.

And now my OCD for checking details hit. Assuming Grand Theft Sorcery is set after Past Due, sunset in Los Angeles is at the latest at 7 PM (assuming March 15). That leaves at most half an hour for Sunday's resurrection, going through the remnants of her life, she and Evan talking, going to Sofia, cat cuddles, and the talk between the three.

Really enjoying GTS, I can't wait for the next chapter.
