Sweet Owl

My suggestion for next show: Outlander. It's another show in costume, settled more or less in the same colonial era. It has 7 seasons till now, it didn't end yet. It's very well written, costumes, sceneries and acting are amazing, it also has what it is for me the best love story I've ever seen in a show, movie or book. DISCLAIMER: it has sexual explicit scenes like GoT and Black Sails and it also has more or less the same level of violence. It also has strong rape scenes, but what I want to say about that is that they are not there for pointless shock value, those scenes are meant to be disturbing because through them you can feel even more the story, the characters and the consequences. In this case, at least in my opinion, just tell or imply something happened wouldn't have had the same result.

I love the conversation they have in the forest. I think it's important to remember something about Silver: he's much younger than Flint and doesn't have the same experience with England that Flint does. I'd say season 1 Flint and season 3 Flint is what Silver is describing in that scene, the rage, the need to make sense of things. By the finale, Flint has evolved past a lot of that, I think his conversations with Mr. Scott, Madi and her mother made him see even further. I don't think Silver sees that yet, and he remains a selfish character at the end of the day (I love him, don't get me wrong, but stopping a revolution, especially one involving slavery, to save one person is a fundamentally selfish act). He makes decisions for Madi against her will. Everything Flint says in that scene is true, and it is very much reinforced by the way he is portrayed in Treasure Island (I do hope you read it, and ask yourself: How would you see the characters without having seen Black Sails? The show recontextualizes that entire story. It's a tragedy now, when it was a goofy story about evil, greedy men before. This isn't a good ending for the maroons either, they have to accept the treaty Rogers proposed to Madi earlier in the season. Flint and Madi see the bigger picture, and I personally don't think Madi ever forgives him. I don't think Silver will be enough for her. Fun fact: the distance between Silver and Madi in the last scene you see them in is intentional and represents the divide between them now, according to the creators of the show. I think it's a big motivator for his actions in Treasure Island: to bring back something to the camp, to Madi and her people. The ending is ambiguous and you can choose what you believe: Silver killed Flint and invented that story, Flint was reunited with Thomas, Thomas was never there to begin with (was there enough time to send a man to Georgia and back before the Spanish arrived?), etc. You get to choose the ending you want to believe in, and I change my mind all the time. The romantic part of me wants to believe the ending with Thomas, the realistic part of me knows it's too convenient, and Silver probably killed him.
