Awesome tips! Very much needed as a long-time GM who is rarely a player and experiences the same attention drift.

I've been playing since about 1976. I feel like players have gotten worse over the years. I have no imperical data to back this up it's just a feeling I have. When I started on my TTRPG journey there were no laptops or cell phone to contend with. It could also be that I run a public game in a public venue, I don't know. It's probably a combination of things but it is a good topic to bring up. Thanks for all your efforts Mike. If no one has mentioned this to you but you have a lovely voice.

One thing that made the biggest difference for me was when I started doing Elizabeth's player prep. Making sure you are prepared helps a lot. That way you are aware of where the story is at, it gives you agency. Taking the time to read up on the current situation beforehand, making a plan on what you want to do and being aware of your character sheet helps a ton. Tom Hanks put it really well: Be on time, know your text, have an idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gV_PSbMzSeM&pp=ygUUdG9tIGhhbmtzIGJlIG9uIHRpbWU%3D
