I'm trying to find out how you wonderful people found out about the Sly Flourish Patreon.

How did you first hear about it?

Please help me out by answering the following poll.

Thank you so much!

I’ve been listening to your podcast for Rime of the Frostmaiden and watching the YouTube videos as well. Have continued to listen and watch, so it felt appropriate to support you.

Mark L

I have been reading your books for ideas on lazy campaign building but I'm about to embark on a Numenera campaign and searched podcasts for content - up pops yours wildly praising the rpg in the campaign you ran last year. So I was sold hook line and sinker. :-)

Kuraidoscope

The podcast is a good listen during work and how i found the patreon. I found you from the Lazy DM books. Its rare to see third party books in mainstream bookstores but yours and Keith Amman's books are always on Indigo here in Canada.

Joseph Massey

Professor DungeonMaster highly recommends your work on his channel...I joined after watching several of your videos following PDM's advice.

Shadows in the Mist

Just bumping up my existing sub to Heroic Level. Thanks for all you do for our hobby!

Ben Miller

I think it was when you were interviewed by Colville et all about The Grim Acord in Arcadia - been listening to the podcast ever since, and thought I should finally join!

Stacey

Nicole van der Hoeven on youtube

Robert Fairbanks

Hanging w/you on the KP discord reminded me, "Oh shit I have to get Mike's Patreon going now that it's, - um, a bit ... {*coughyears-cough*},... later". ;-) My SF newsletters kept me reminded enough, that I finally pulled the trigger. Your consistency sir, that's why I was finally present enough to get my can in here.

Kevin Cork

I heard repeated references to your work and site from the Mastering Dungeons podcast, bought the books and found your Youtube material, hearing some great ideas. (Plus you also use Notion)

Annette Smith

My DM linked me to the website when I was trying to figure out how to homebrew a setting for my first game

Glen_b

It was a long time ago but I think I started out watching your youtube videos. I also saw a recommendation for your books somewhere on reddit; I don't remember if that came before or after. I think I started watching you more regularly about the time Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master came out. Eventually I bought some of your books in pdf and subscribed to the newsletter. I decided I wanted to support your work and you had a low priced base tier, so I did.

Florian

I think Fantastic Lairs' kickstarter led me back to the whole ecosystem (discord, patreon, website, etc)

Michael Shea

Thank you! Do you remember which one of those brought you to Patreon? I don't think I posted anything about my Patreon on the Kickstarter.

WhiteRice

It was a dark an storming night....as a DM who was very much out of practice I sat at my desk as I had been for countless hours, prepping the next session of my new campaign. I was at my witts end, lost in flavor text, stat blocks, and so many random tables! I cried out for help to anyone who would listen...that is when, in a puff of black smoke....he appeared...draped in a hooded cloak, the one they called Sly Flourish. His name whispered in hush tones at FLGSs. Clutched in his hand, a copy of the Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master. Setting this tome upon my table with a sly grin, he vanishes! My games (and potentially my missing soul) have never been the same since.....It totally went exactly like that >.>

Doan Brian Roessler

Pretty sure it was the podcast, but I've been following and benefiting from your work in various media for a few years, so it's hard to be sure 😊

George Panaghi

I bought the Lazy Dungeon Master (the original) on Amazon. I didn't really know who Sly Flourish was until later.

Colin Eisele

I was looking for inspiration about Eberron and saw the vids about your Eberron campaign. Your prep steps made sense and helped me cut down the amount of clutter and railroading I was doing (though I haven't been able to cut it down to one hour of prep).

Solomon Foster

I think I ran into the Return of the Lazy DM kickstarter first, not at all sure how I discovered that. Then gradually discovered all (? I think? but there are a lot!) of your other DMing endeavors over the next few years. But I think after the Kickstarter, discovering your Twitter was the main thing that pushed me towards most of the other products.

Lance Reed

The Youtube Videos on running Descent into Avernus. Got me over the hump to start DiA and keep it going for a bunch of new players. Recently bought Ruins of the Grendleroot because of your posts on using it for West Marches (which I started as well, thanks!!!).

Richard Durocher

Essentially found you with a Google search. After randomly buy Fantastic Adventures and loving it, I did a Google search to find more products from Sly Flourish and as a result I found Twitter, Twitch, the web site, and Patreon all at once.

John Bryant

I found the website first, but I think it was a podcast or Twitter that first led me to the Patreon. I answered all 3 since I can’t remember.

asdf

A friend recommended the return of the past dungeon master and I found your site from there.

Tom Clarke

Nearly sure I heard your name on another YouTube channel, think it may have been Matt Colville's? And you ranked pretty high on a Google search for DM tips.

Florian

I am not really sure unfortunately. By digging a bit in my emails, it might have been the Kickstarter's update #17 (29 september 2020) which mentioned the Discord server; that might have been my entry point (or what made it click in my head, I probably read some articles on the website previously, that sort of thing). What's certain is that I backed Lairs before becoming a patron.

Sara Shepherd

Purchasing my digital copy of TLDM on your website led me here!

Ryan Roat

Voted for youtube, as it's most likely since I first started consuming content by catching up on older GoS game prep videos. Now I try to watch via Twitch (live when possible) to enjoy the chat, and catch the preshow and outtakes. -rsr70

DM4Life

My wife found your book online and bought it to me as a gift.

Michael Shea

That's by far my best marketing strategy but it doesn't scale well. The plane tickets are murder and that hooded cloak is hot!

AvocadoKenobi

Found your patreon after starting my sly flourish collection, but originally was referred your way when I asked Johnn Four about adventures good for beginner DMs.

J.Daniel Nobel

I may have first encountered you and/or your work through the Dragon Talk podcast. Either directly or indirectly via another reference, I couldn’t remember (a lot of names are tossed around often enough in this community!). Ultimately, I got into the DM Deep Dive podcast and binged all the back episodes. You and your guests had enough good things to say to pry $2/month out of my pocket.

Lodane

I found your books first, your website second, your youtube from blog entries and your mentions of patreon from there. I appreciate your brief mentions at the start of episodes. I loved the Icespire Peak solo games. Delighted to throw a buck toward hosting costs for the family of Shea content.

Nicole Sparks

It was linked from a blog post I read when I was looking for help/inspiration planning my next session.

Mark

Stumbled onto your Twitch and was hooked!

SnivGrits

Purchasing Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master led me to Google your name, which led to your newsletter, which led to your Patreon, which led to your Discord. What a tangled web you have woven.

Snuffles the Bear

A friend of mine forwarded me a couple of your newsletters.

Jennifer Leigh

I think Google? I decided to get back into roleplaying two years ago, and realized I would need to do that as a GM. I had only been a player back in the 80's, so had zero skills to help me, and was looking for resources. I am now writing my own adventures, and they are heavily influenced by your methods. I have your audiobooks, and re-listen to them occasionally.

Matt Sullivan

The Kickstarter for "Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master" I think?

timothygutierrez

I literally found out about Sly Flourish’s patreon at the beginning of a Sly Flourish video. I can’t remember if it was on twitch or on the YouTube channel. I’ll just say YouTube. I vividly remember when you mentioned the patreons supported the purchase of your new chair, so maybe that was the time. I decided to become a patreon of your channel when I made a decision to support some D&D creators I felt brought value to my game. That was January. I found out about your content in general from a Web Search for “How to DM” or something to the effect when I started to run LMoP for a group of friends last summer. I think the youtube video series on using Return was the portal to everything else. Since I deal with lemmas and corpus in my professional life, I found those tangents interesting as well.

Andreas Zwettler

First encountered your work via a DnD beyond article. After that YouTube/ newsletter i think...

GMKit.io

For me I was searching youtube on tips on being a good DM as I am just starting that part of my journey. Once I found a video (can't even remember which one it was now) you mentioned one of your books, so I grabbed that and thought "oh man this is really good; I should watch some more videos". Now I'm hooked in... Compared to other content creators though you had a few key differences: 1. Immersive: YT and other medium for getting your content out there. 2. Obviously spent a lot of time to organize your thoughts into a system. (THIS IS #1 best part as its easy to follow. 3. It met me exactly where I am at, and has been giving me what I need i my journey. This being said I know that when I re-watch these videos in a year I will find something new and just as important to my growth as a DM.

Michael Shea

Thats awesome to hear! Thank you! I hope you'll hang out in the Discord if you're able (and assuming you're not already there!)

Theo Traumato

Specifically the patreon was shown to me via your youtube channel, but I think someone on reddit recommended return of the lazy dm, which i bought and found so enlightening for my DMing.

Shane Morales

did a search for dungeons on patreon.

Tyler Brenot

I actually first learned about the lazy dm because I listened to Nifft the Lean on audible and it thought you and the other Mike Shea are the same person. Then years later I found your youtube videos.

toddgrx

friend joined last weekend... I joined today

Jay Kitchens

Looking up DnD books on Amazon and came across Lazy Dungeon Master.

Axel Cholewa

I’m following your website for years now, backed most of your books, and think that 1 article per week is not enough to keep me satisfied with your awesome DM tips, adventure ideas and campaign inspirations 🤩 Glad I can support your work on a more regular basis now 👍🏻 Keep on rolling them dice 🎲🎲🎲

Tanis Kerven

I found you from the audiobook of Sly Flourish's The Lazy Dungeon Master

Gustavo Campanelli

The 4 videos made with John Four. while technically on youtube, I marked Other because I found it in John's Q&A session in Zoom

Dom Guido

One of your short YouTube vids popped up in my recommended feed. So, I watched it, and got intrigued. I've followed WebDM and Coleville for years, so I guess it was just a matter of time before I stumbled into this corner of the D&D internet. And frankly your Patreon is such a great value that signing up was a no brainer.

Nick

Your lazy dm's guide got recommended on amazon after I picked up some ttrpg stuff. After that, I read a review of the book on drivethrurpg. Found your youtube after searching the book's title and then Patreon.

Grrrbah

i read the Lazy Dm's guide and dug the heck out of it

GROUCH

I have the Lazy Dungeon Master, but I got here from the semi-recent 4 video with Johnn Four

Bill Kehrman

Once I went beyond simply watching the videos that popped up in my recommended videos and started searching for stuff I decided it would be a good idea to support.

Jonas Havlykke

I first notice your webpage. I've then seen most of your stuff on Youtube, and your session 0 video for Rime of the Frostmaiden inspired me to buy Return Of The Lazy Dungeon Master and support you here. Uncovered Secret was also a big motivator. I've been a Lazy DM for decades and mostly run improve, home brew campaigns and after a long DM burn out (also getting 2 kids), I needed a reboot, see what other people are doing and your videos are doing wonders. I especially enjoy seeing you plan adventures and prep for sessions. no-one else is really doing this and its so rewarding for us. I might also take your advice on running a published campaign to avoid a new burnout. Thank you for all your content, hard work and courage to do what you do infront of the camera. You are a true inspiration.

Chromie

You were showing off your table for generating adventures in your past stream on 8/821. But the history of a civilization, signed up for that.

Michael Sawyers

I found your lazy dm book and went down the rabbit hole

jason kiser

Down the rabbit hole here as well when I was on one of those RPG drive through sites.

Kevin Crilley

Love your videos and your approach! Your augmented theatre of the mind ("what's your intent"+minimap) is my new favorite approach to running combat, and your Saltmarsh advice has landed really well so far. Keep it up!

MartinL

I honestly don't remember where I heard about the patreon. I should have joined a while ago.

DM

Kindle Edition.

Parker W

I first found the patreon from the youtube channel, but found the youtube channel from the Lazy GM books.

analog lesbian

Someone from my DnD DMs meetup mentioned your work, which led me to your kickstarter, then website, then patreon.

Walt Winfrey

We've played together in person, and I've followed your work ever since. :)

Walt Winfrey

Chantilly! You DMed my very first AL session (DDEX1-1), and I was also at your table for one you wrote, The Drowned Tower, at the same store.

Mark Kehn

I just joined Patreon for the first time back in July 2021 when I signed up for The Dungeon Coach's Patreon. Since I occasionally catch your YouTube videos I decided to support you as well. Thanks for all you do.

Scott Miller

I discovered you originally from a podcast you did with D&D beyond a couple of months ago. Been following your twitch/youtube and newsletter ever since. You've been invaluable at providing new perspectives for my games, so it only seems fair to pitch in.

Geoffrey Sperl

I first came across you in the run-up to 5E’s release by way of an Amazon recommendation for The Lazy Dungeon Master. I had not only preordered the core books, I had recently read Pressfield on my Kindle, so I’m sure some algorithm somewhere was like “Hey… try this!” So, I bought that, then eventually followed you on Twitter, then YouTube… and here we are.

Ted M

All of the above, this was the last thing I hadn't consumed/liked/purchased

Casey

Technically I heard about the Patreon from the podcast, but I wanted to give credit to The Itch.io Page of "What Crooked Roots" by Cassi Mothwyn. It was included in a HUGE charity bundle for reproductive right they have going right now, and when I was poking through I saw a clip for your podcast talking about the supplement. This led me to start watching your other podcast episodes, which led me here. Thanks for all the content!

Adam G

Return of the Lazy DM popped up on drivethrurpg, then I bought it through slyflourish.com and started listening to your podcast. I don't know if I've become a lazier DM, but I've definitely become a better one!

Grant Mills

I bought the Lazy DM's guide years ago on a whim and loved every minute of it.

Matt Oliver (Grimm)

I honestly don't remember where I first heard you, but it was most certainly from a podcast mention by another DM. I've been casually following for awhile, but this week I've been down the rabbit hole watching all your DM tips videos and have gotten so much excellent advice from them I had to subscribe. Thanks for all the work you do!

AprilLynnJV

This guy above me recommended it to me. ----^ I was struggling with running large groups of mobs in Avrae for my players and he pointed me towards the Running Hordes YouTube video.

Scotty Gman

well, I had bumped into your stuff before and already had the Lazy DM book but I was watching your youtube channel and you mentioned Patreon so I said, "Let's go check it out" and for $2? what a deal!

Cary Price

I came across The Lazy Dungeon Master on the net when I was looking for DM tips for my first campaign. That led to buying a bundle of your books and watching your video's on YouTube. You've given me so many great tips and idea's that I felt the best thank you was to become a patreon!

David Macauley

I found The Lazy Dungeon Master books/Your name via a few blogs/D&D searches, followed that back to your site, and to Kickstarter.

StellarX

First stumbled across your fabulous content on YouTube then followed the rabbit hole! :-) Finally committed to be a patron - happy to support YOU, supporting US!

GalvinZoo

I heard you on (and mentioned on) Dragna Carta's Twice Bitten Podcast.

SirReal

I have the Lazy Dungeon Master Books and found this while searching for D&D content on Patreon.

Kathleen Smith

I literally searched D&D pages on patreon and picked youuuu :)

Kaylee

I searched for DM podcasts on iTunes and found your Icewindale series. Loved it and have been a fan ever since.

Rick Seigmund

Definitely YouTube, but you may have been referred to by other youtubers when I first heard of you

Bent Goblin Press

When I started to run D&D for my kids, I looked for advice on the Internet and found the Return of the Lazy Dungeonmaster (which sounded just right, since I was a dungeon master returning to the craft after a long, long time -- and I am lazy, as well :) I very much appreciate that you turn your videos also into podcasts -- I am spending enought time in front of a screen as it is, so I give Youtube a very wide berth, but the podcasts are great for jogging!!!

barry mcwilliams

I've bought a bunch of your PDFs already, but have recently been deep-diving on the Eberron prep episodes, as I'm running an Eberron game right now.

Christopher Byler

My wife and I watch you together every week for the D&D Talk Show, and often session preps, and we love it all. You have the sort of attitude that meshes very well with our family, and you have become a fixture in the sound landscape of our home.

Michael Shea

Thats so awesome to hear. I'm glad you dig it! Thank you!

Benjamin M

Love your content on youtube, I would like to support you further. I run two games, one with my friends virtually and one with my wife and kids. Cheers!

Mage vs. Monster

I found you a few years ago through Audible where I found your Return of the Lazy DM on audiobook. I love the podcast/youtube as well!

Dan

I have been listening to your podcast for about a year, backed your most recent kickstarter because of it and now subscribed because I feel I can afford to do so. I believe, if memory serves, and it rarely does, that I first came across your work from a reddit post.

smallfish

Publications > YouTube > Reddit > Patreon

Chris Hallberg

When I took over DMing for my veteran group, the previous DM highly recommended the Lazy DM Guide, which I purchased and loved! From there, frequent references on Twitter led me to the newsletter, which has been invaluable! Time to put my money where my gratitude is!

Matt Bourque

Hey Mike, I originally heard of your book, bought it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. When I later found you on YouTube, I was equally excited. After enjoying your YT content, I decided to sign up. Thanks for the great work!

Jeramie Cooper

I listen to the The Lazy D&D podcast. I heard about the Lazy DM Generator and it's something I want access to. I also heard about the Rolling Lots of Checks table. Both of these will be useful for my upcoming adventures in Kobold Press's Dragon Empire. The cost is very low for the content provided.

Peter Hohenstein

Been following the youtube channel for some time, got myself the recent 8 (?)-book bundle of holding and thought it was time for some more actual support than just a thumbs up... ;-)

James Payne

Met you years ago on Twitter and in person at Gen Con (2011 or 2012 I think....somewhere around that period). Been following your progress for years and really appreciate what you have done for the hobby. Your work very much helps me run my games.

Artes Belli

I love your videos, and the Lazy DM books, and I figured now is the time to start showing independent creators some love!

Alex Huggett

Resubscribing. I've stopped playing 5e but you latest newsletter in which you said your focus will be broader encouraged me to resub.
