Mike, I --literally--just sat down at my desk, opened up the Return of the Lazy DM to pg. 20 (Define Secrets and Clues) when this video popped into my email. Good timing, my man! Thank for the inspiration.

Gustavo Campanelli

Cool, I always thought sentient items as comic relief, mostly, but if they've been around or if they tap any kind of common item knowledge field they can work wonders as secret dealers.

Jordan Thompson

I've always struggled with finding opportunities in-game to place my secrets and clues, so I appreciate that you listed some specific examples of how they might manifest. A lot of the time I default to revealing secrets via NPC dialogue, which can start feeling a bit info dumpy if it's used too often. I'll definitely try out some of your other suggestions to vary the forms of clues in my future games.

Malcolm Wolter

All great ideas, thanks Mike! Additional ideas for dropping secrets and clues into the environment include the architecture of the space the PCs are exploring, tapestries, objects d'art, and recently dead bodies or ancient corpses.

Michael Shea

They really are the gift that keeps on giving.

Michael Shea

Absolutely! Mine is far from a complete list.

Andrew Houghton

Hey Mike, would you include 'rumours' in this?

_Octain

Thanks Mike, again, you make me realise that isn’t not hard to dm. This happens every time I am about to prep and watch your videos. On a side note, what are all those books on your left? Just curious

Michael Shea

Bunch of D&D books. DMing isn't easy but it can be easier than many of us make of it I think.

Michael Shea

Sure. I tend not to do a lot of rumors unless there's some truth there, but sure, this is a great place fo rumors.
