Here's a preview of an upcoming YouTube video on the big shift in power we should consider at the 7th level in D&D. Enjoy!

If this video is marked "private", that means I've queued it up for general release and it'll be back up soon.

Would 7th level be a tier without polymorph and banish? Are those the two big ones?

Gustavo Campanelli

those two particular spells affect pacing (Banish) or difficulty (Polymorph), and I get that the power jump is high for a party with a mage, but how do other characters classes change at seven level? Because that seems almost absent in here. I don't know what happens to warriors, clerics, thieves around that level, and are the feats as unbalancing as those spells?

Michael Shea

Good question. I think there's a jump but not quite as big as those two spells in particular.

You are right, and there is certainly a jump in power from 6th to 7th level. Fighters, Paladins, and Rangers all receive new abilities based on their archetypes, Monks and Rogues get Evasion (making area of effect spells less effective against them), and every spellcaster gets access to fourth level spells. All this taken together will certainly alter encounter and adventure design.
