In-Tune Studios Q&A #3 answers! (Patreon)
Content
Well, here we are at last; the third Q&A for In-Tune Studios!
The first two questions are from Patron Andrew:
1.) Is there an art piece that you would like to revisit if given the opportunity?
A.) Queen Clover. I was on a tight budget when I commissioned it, and it was supposed to be a bit longer and with proper inking. Kim Balance Issue #1 was also supposed to be nearly twice as long originally before budgets resulted in being cut down for the same reason. (I'll also admit I rushed Kim Balance Issue #1 so that others would stop asking me what happened to the project...)
2.) What is the most complex art piece or project you worked on?
A.) Probably Iola's Big Surprise, being a colored animation project and all. As for comics? All the Sizes of the Rainbow. I went ALL OUT on that, and it is to date the most money I've ever spent on a commission ever for anything, period. Nothing I've done for In-Tune Studios since then has come even CLOSE to its cost or sheer scale. Eight pages of full color with two distinct sequences of size changing will likely never be something I'll do ever again outside without the aid of crowdfunding.
The next three questions are from someone requesting to stay anonymous:
Hello, I had a few questions so I'd like to contribute to the Q&A this time. If one of my questions is out of line I apologize but here we go:
1.) I don't quite know if this was answered directly before but how did you get into uneven body expansion/shrinking?
A.) If we're talking about regular ol' shrinking, Disney's Alice in Wonderland. The scene of Alice slowly shrinking while holding the Shrink Me bottle remains one of my favorite shrinking sequences in all of animation.
As for uneven? That I'm not sure. The first time I remember seeing it was the 1936 Mickey Mouse short Thru The Mirror (yes I'm aware of the irony two Alice in Wonderland-themed cartoons from Disney being my introductions), it wasn't a trigger like with the above Alice example. I just thought it was funny, much like Donald's attempt to re-grow after being shrunk in The Three Caballeros. It was actually Xtrem's comic Awkward Growth Spurts done a decade or so back that got me into commissioning comics on the subject itself with cute girls.
2.) I am aware there's a certain comic group that will be left unnamed that isn't in your good graces, is there history behind that or are you just not fond of what they do?
A.) I'll break my own rule and mention said site by name. The site they're referring to is the Fan sites, and this is going to get a bit wordy. But to keep it simple, I have three major problems with the Fan sites as a whole.
First; the pricing model. Instead of offering one reduced sum of money to be subscribed to all nine (yes NINE) Fan sites, you have to individually pay for each and every one. Not only that, but you need to pay separate prices for each one. To give you a rundown on how much a month, provided you only get a single month subscription as of the writing of this video, all nine Sites right now will cost you:
Giantess Fan costs $24.95/month.
Expansion Fan costs $24.95/month.
Muscle Fan costs $19.95/month.
V**e Fan costs $19.95/month.
Shrink Fan costs $16.95/month.
B*****e Fan costs $16.95/month.
Transform Fan costs $24.95/month.
F******i Fan costs $14.95/month.
Monster Girl Fan costs $14.95/month.
So if you just want to download the current archives for a single month, it will cost you right now $178.55! And that's before including state taxes and other possible expenses! There's not even a way to buy individual comics/series.
Second; they've often stretched out the definition of "uneven" content in their comics before. For examples:
Power Patrol: Possession Obsession has labels for both uneven growth and shrinking labeled on it. There is zero of either in the comic. I looked.
Sorority Problems 3 has a bit more growth in it, but it's mostly on feet and fingers, and barely anything else. And I am not a foot person in the slightest, so...
Power Patrol 3's uneven growth not only happens at the butt end of the issue, but lasts seven panels, with only two panels showing any of it in any major detail. The growth is otherwise so minimal it's barely noticeable.
Cleavage Crusader 7; three panels of uneven shrink.
Time for Slime 2; confuses suit inflation with "uneven growth", which is NOT the same thing.
Bitter Dreams 3's uneven growth is a whopping four panels, Elasticity confuses uneven growth for stretching their heroine out and giving her huge boobs, Undertoe and Little Leather's uneven shrinking is just on the breasts not shrinking with its characters (boring)...
I'm sure there's more improperly tagged comics in the other Clubs, as well as other ones on Giantess, Expansion, and Shrink I'm missing, but by this point I was so disappointed, I never re-subscribed to any of the Fan sites again.
Giantess RPG 4 remains to this day the only Fan comic I read with actually fun uneven material in it.
And lastly, a lot of the comics either have, to me, either unappealing art, writing that annoys me, or both. The worst offender of both I can think of is Toonstruck, a comic about a woman who gets shrunken and turned into a toon inside her computer, coming out inches high. It takes this creative premise and wastes it with cringey writing ("don't you go Duck Amuck on me", "cue Powerhouse", "how would Tex Avery handle this?", "too many viewings of Who Framed Roger Rabbit?") and an art style that makes our cartoonified heroine look like a reject anime girl from a 90s "How To Draw Manga" book. Oh, and it ALSO has almost no uneven shrinking despite its advertising, with most of it regulated to one of the heroine's hands and a couple of panels before she's sucked fully in. And if that wasn't enough, it ALSO ended on a cliffhanger, so even if I overlooked the art and writing, I was never gonna get more out of it. Ever.
3.) Is there a character in popular media that if given the chance you'd like to own the rights to that you could use for Intune Studios?
A.) Hand Maid May and its OAV sequel Hand Maid Mai, if only to finally get the latter finally released and out of the lost media realm. And also to see if there were any sketches/story ideas for how May got to be big. The series, as far as I remember anyway, never really makes it clear if it's the same May who grew or her mind was transferred in a different body.
