I have come across a resource that I have been finding encouraging the last few days. It's a free summit over the next 30 days and it's free to join. It's all audio, videos of health professionals sharing their expertise and stories. Some are more on the natural/spiritual side of healing but there are some great ones of people sharing from more a psychology/science perspective and I have found it complimenting the CBT therapy stuff I am doing with my psychologist. 1. Can you do a video on the difference between a suicide attempt and suicidal ideation?

2. Hi Kati, I have a question maybe you can talk about in one of your videos. Do you ever hug clients? If so, when is it okay, and if not can you please explain why? This is very interesting. I often wondered about physical contact in therapy. When I got upset once my therapist said 'I feel like I want to put my hand on your shoulder' but I didn't respond and she didn't touch me. I find physical contact very difficult but at the be same time I really would like someone to hug me. I am not sure that makes sense. I guess some people just naturally hug but for me it brings up complex emotions. other that my infant neices no one has hugged me in years.

most of my mental health professionals have hugged me. Honestly it is confusing to me my therapist now always wants to hug me after a session and a lot of times I don't want her to touch me at all especially if the session was hard. My previous therapist I loved to get hugs from her and if I didn't I would obsess over it until the next session because I thought she was upset with me so for me it is confusing

This was pretty interesting. My therapist and I have zero physical touch, which I'm fine with. I'm guessing when I finish therapy I'll give her a hug goodbye though. Also, I have a question. I really enjoy therapy. Like, it makes me feel good and I look forward to it (although by the time I get there and realize I will have to talk about difficult things, anxiety skyrockets!) but, is there anything wrong with "liking" therapy? I'm just worried I won't want to stop going when it's time. Is it ok to keep going when I'm "recovered" or is that unhealthy?

I second this question and also feel exactly the same way! However recently (after 2 years of beginning therapy) I am finally starting to feel a shift in things and sense that I am getting better and the more I see this the excitement and 24/7 thoughts about the next session, are diminishing too. Yes I still count the sleeps before my next session and I like seeing my psychologist but overall I am noticing that those over consuming thoughts (of my psychology sessions or when the next appointment is), are getting less and less. But yeah I still have issues with it so Kati if you could share some advice about this and also if it is a common emotion for a lot of clients?? Thanks!

Thanks Kati for the video. Interesting I have never really thought about the hug thing before. Now that I think about it my therapist has never touched me at all in the 6 years of therapy. She knows that I don't like to be touched so I am kinda glad she hasn't. I think it would feel awkward if she hugged me. Interesting topic though.

Another question- my therapist said that the diagnosis of PTSD can only be given for six months (at least for insurance purposes or maybe just in general idk). Is this true? If so, what if you still have the effects/symptoms of PTSD after 6 months?

It was my understanding that there aren't any limits to PTSD.. not even a limit to how long you have been feeling the symptoms.. just that it start after the incident. Also, I would estimate that over 90% of those who have PTSD have it for more than 6 months.. so I would ask her more about this. xoxo

I think it's perfectly normal to "like" therapy.. it's when we depend on it completely that it becomes a problem. But you can definitely go even when you are recovered. As a side note, I would define depending on them as needing their input on everything in order to make a decision.. and being unable to cope when they are away. Other than that.. i think it's great to like therapy :) xoxo I know I do!! xoxo

So I three weeks ago almost committed suicide. I now continue to suffer from massive panic attacks and extreme flashbacks. I contemplated crashing my car and all of these flashbacks happen while I am driving. The worst forces me to pull over and try to convince myself I am fine and the car will not hit me. My plan was that I was going to hit a car and it would look like an accident. I am wondering how I can work to minimize the panic attacks and flashbacks being that I am an artist and my life involves going places and driving to take photos???
