LET it been known, this was a day of FATHOMING friends. Candy

I'm re-watching this 3/22/23, and laughing my @## off thinking about how you girls are going to absolutely LOSE it when she see what she does with Willow on tour!!!! Getting my popcorn ready for your in depth reaction!

charlie

new patreon member and im watching this for the first time and you guys absolutely fucked me up by connecting the train to being the invisible string leading him home how actually dare you

Berkay Türkyılmaz

it's so strange that at the end of this video, the camera keeps focusing on the evermore album even though you are standing in the front... even the universe is an evermore stan like us...

Willow

Just re-fathoming - when she follows the string from the bottom of the box it reminds me of long story short like ‘i fell from the pedestal right down the rabbit hole, long story short it was a bad time… pushed from the precipice clung to the nearest lips long story short it was the wrong guy’ where she’s literally reflecting on that 2016 - 1989->rep era. AND in the video she goes into that rep imagery with the hood outfit and everything. So that part of the video really reflects long story short vibes for me.

VenturesOfJanee

omfg... train also is also a call back to her song dress from reputation album

Chelsea

I love how Emily says "What if there's some way for her to tell us that this (TS11) doesn't fall into the same as my 10 albums before it... this doesn't have a color."... Then a few months later she BURNED the lover house down. And now TS11 is WHITE. LOL. She was listening to you guys and couldn't have made it more clear!

Emily Warfield

Got to get a re fathoming after hearing the alchemist

Havana Tinker

coming here a little late but, i always thought invisible string was a song so so so important to have in her discography and the way she perfectly played it out with this music video makes me go insane lol, but also the way that the string was always there and somehow links to everything. its so weird to think about she might hint to this string snapping in ttpd im simply not ready

Katie Walmsley

Y’all must rewatch your deeply concerning prophesies about TS11 at the beginning of this video!! 😱😍

Bria Bowen

Re-fathoming post break up and post TTPD and for me that ending scene rather being daylight is now giving "in the shade of how he was feeling" "for just one hour of sunshine" oof crying throwing up. BEGGING for you to take my hand. I'm just thinking of this song and MV so differently now

Deborah

The jump at the beginning is so reminiscent of her jump after the surprise songs on the eras tour!

Brenda1989

I feel like we need a cardigan/willow music video refathoming now after ttpd!!!

Spin and slide

New to all these past fathomings…love but weird to hear Joe and not Travis….lol. So you were asking about the balls and they are crystal balls used by the fortune tellers in the circus.

Jennie 🐍🖤

GURLS. I’m just going back through Patreon content because I simply can’t get enough of your superiority. When listening to the beginning part of the Willow music video I hear the beginning of The Albatross!!!!!!!!

Breezy Bumbles

My brain just exploded with the whole “my train could take you home”.

Ana Clara

This video after torture poets it's fucked up 😂

Sammi

Them talking about what could come next after the lover house… and what it was is that we were actually in a mental asylum the whole time…. And burning it all down during tour… insane.

Derick Mitchell Matthews

14:13 Bonny!!! 🤦😭 The unconscious connections you were making about Joe not really being there really just still destroys me…Stellar video 👏🩶❤️‍🔥

Rebecca

52 minutes on Willow? These are my people!

eshaan tresise

omg plsss more evermore content😵🧡

Ally ❤️

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Anna

<3

Ashley Rohr

I have not fathomed yet so I am so excited to watch tonight!! 🤍

Jack

Yaaas, the serotonin 💛

Iga W.

Omg, I'm so excited! 🤎

Maggie Tindall

PS - Emily, I also have that sweatshirt and I love it sm

Miriam Hart

I love that this is an hour long 😍

Léa

Can’t wait to watch and so excited for the sneaky surprise !! Evermore era is the best 🤎

Emma Baumert

Can you please react to Marcus Mumford (who does background vocals) signing cowboy like me?

erin

EVERMORE ERA YESSS

Francesca Dolan

Purple leaves in a foggy forest? Lavender Haze. 💜💜💜

Axsha

Does the sneaky surprise have anything to do with Podcasts? 💀👀

mieke

you left me no choice but to be a little chicken 🐥💕

Erica

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think her bleachella look was so fucking cool! She looked bad ass and stunning 🔥🔥

Iga W.

I like the theory that the source of the invisible string is Joe. Also the image that Em talked about - "one night a few moons ago I saw flecks of what could've been lights but it might just have been you", I think you're on to something. These balls of gold ligts just floating around being a methaphor for Joe (especially that we know that Taylor considers him "golden"). And as she leaves those lights we can see a full moon on the night sky. ✨💕

Ileana Isabel

I am NOT OKAY WITH ALL OF THIS FATHOMING 🙈🙈🙈 my brain cells stopped computing halfway through the video lol

Carly

Love this! Willow is my fav music video so I had already fathomed everything you mentioned except for the "train" info. Wow! One additional thing - when the kids are in the tent, it is giving Everything Has Changed mv vibes.

mieke

em‘s little rant about the evermore fringe being straight 🤣🤣 this is why i love you guys. always paying attention to the details 🤌🏻✨

mieke

also, i agree about the evermore fringe being superior in its curly version!! it was kinda giving 1977 stevie nicks and i‘m absolutely obsessed with that

gracie

Loved this video!!! I, too, LOVE when music videos complete the story...They help to fully immerse yourself in the world of a song or album. Lizzy McAlpine's album, Five Seconds Flat, might be the best example (besides Taylor) in recent years. Anyone who loves Taylor should give Lizzy a listen!!

Vanessa

Can't wait for a surprise!!!

Ally ❤️

What an incredible breakdown! I feel like the fireball dance represents her “Masterminding” and “brainwashing (Paris)” and casting a spell “to make someone love you” - and then he followed the string to her - she is truly a world-builder!

Charlotte Nixon

keen for the surprise! whatever you guys do i’ll always be HERE FOR! ahhh! this was such a good video! i’m pretty sure that instrument is a lyre 🥰😍

Clash Fan

Loved the video and can't wait for the surprise! There was part of your conversation that made me want to refer you to an interview she did during the 1989 era. It was her first appearance, if I'm not mistaken on Graham Norton and the full show is posted on youtube it's S16E03 with John Cleese and some guy who plays cricket. This also happens to be the very first thing I saw Taylor Swift do. I was not a fan and originally watched because I am a fan of John Cleese. There is just some interesting discussion around dating with some by play between guests about divorces and alimony. It's hard to describe but what's interesting is Taylor's response. I believe this is pre-Calvin as she says she is single at one point but who knows. The whole interview is good but the best parts come in cross exchanges between guests so clips don't really capture it. I remember being very impressed with how she handled herself the first time I watched it and again I didn't really know who she was at the time. I mean I knew but I didn't know if you see what I mean. :D

Miriam Hart

I hope the surprise is that they got Eras tour tickets for a us show!!!

Ash

I'm so excited for the surprise!!

Brittany Phelan

WHY DID I NEVER KNOW ABOUT THE TRAIN LINE

Brittany Phelan

also when she goes into the rep hole it reminds me of the lyrics "fell from the pedestal right down the rabbit hole"

Aracely C

Me too!! I loved her Bleachella look! I’m sad she has said she didn’t like it. But maybe it has more to do with associating it with her life and mindset at that time.

Aracely C

I’m sorry but I just fathomed the beginning of that video. I was thinking of the fact that she literally just got out of the piano and then just goes right back in. Which to me is crazy. But it made me realize that both times she follows something into the piano. However this time she looks first! 🤯 The first time she does look but it’s more of a wonderstruck look, and just goes in. This time you see her very obviously checking what it might be. So she’s not gonna let what happened to her keep her from pursuing those adventures but she has learned to be a little bit more cautious!

Aloha Record Sargent

Thank you for this fathoming! Do you think the hood outfit in the Bejeweled video is maybe just a nod to Evermore, and not to Reputation? In other words, the first part of Bejeweled MV is a nod to Folklore, then she goes to Evermore, and then she starts her re-recordings. She was in "exile" down in the dungeon because she was exiled from her albums? But then exile ended and she could start re-recording or "reclaiming" her albums (her "jewels"). And those albums "polish up real nice" when she re-records them?

Erica

Yeah that makes sense! It wasn’t a good time in her life.

Alice

The camera kept focusing on evermore 😂

Rose

The whole witch "source" part is giving *mastermind* casting a spell to make him fall for her.

Kenna Galloway

Love love getting all this beautiful content! This is not a full formed fathoming, but something about the scene in the woods dancing around the “fire” seemed religious to me, like worship. And we have lots of lyrics that connect Joe to her religious experience and that their relationship is what she worships. So maybe her turning away from the crowd worshiping the “fire” is a reference to her in search of Joe in that sense

anntallogy

I`m absolutely ok with uou in Evermore era now bc I`m in it like since December 2020^_^

chatsandreacts

December is for evermore my friend 🤎 we love her and we are celebrating her

chatsandreacts

We hope you love the surprise when it comes 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 we are excited about it

chatsandreacts

You shouldn’t expect anything less from us bestie, always too much to say 😂 xx

chatsandreacts

It does not 🙈 but it does have to do with us being in evermore era 🤎

chatsandreacts

Same bestie I literally bleachella’d my own head because it’s so iconic 😭

Alice

Every bait and switch was a work of art

Alice

Omg that TRAIN thing fucked me up too! Never thought of it like that. I also thought it was “choo choo” train 😂

Alice

Wonder what the surprise will be!!! Merch??

chatsandreacts

Love you 🤎🤎🤎 the bangs being correct is I M P O R T A N T !!!

mya brown

I AM UNWELL!!!!!!!! This was an absolute fathoming session y’all have fucked me upppp….. WHAT DO YOU MEAN A SPECIAL SNEAKY SURPRISE WHAT ARE YALL DOOINGGGGG

chatsandreacts

Ohhh Ally that’s an OFFENSIVE thing for you to say!!!

Alice

So curious!

Monica Gaura

wait WHERE is Emily’s sweatshirt from?? I’m only like 2 mins in and I see she said it’s cowboy like me merch… does that mean it’s official merch that I never saw?? Or is it from an Etsy seller? Cause I loveee it! And I rarely ever buy merch.

chatsandreacts

Ohhh YES this is the “died dead” interview I’m pretty sure! I haven’t seen it in a while, hmmm maybe we will do a video on it when we re-enter 1989 era when she announces Taylor’s version 😍

chatsandreacts

I can let you know now, my friend, that we did in fact get tickets for a US show… which means it’s not the surprise 🙈🤎

Monica Gaura

Also THANK YOU so much for doing evermore content 🖤🖤🖤 it’s my favoriteeee album and given that Taylor immediately forgot it existed, the content around it is severely lacking. This is filling a huge void I’m eternally grateful 🥹

chatsandreacts

VERYYYY possible, I think we assumed it was a Rep throwback because the evermore hood is also a Rep throwback in itself, but it definitely could be a nod to evermore era ending and her moving into midnights & the new re-recordings!

Clash Fan

Exactly that same one!

Miriam Hart

Yay!!! That’s exciting! What show?!?

Alice

Nothing better than a bon and em breakdown video!! I can’t wait for the midnights one ❤️ hope it’s ten hours long 😆

chatsandreacts

Hi bestie!!! It was OFFICIAL merch during evermore era! Who knows, maybe she’ll bring it back one day, what with all the holiday collection era stores on her website right now, and all the old Lover & Rep merch coming back! SO GLAD you are happy we are doing evermoreeeee era 😍🤎 she deserves a true moment in the spotlight ✨

Miriam Hart

What if Taylor gave them a secret session?!?

Clash Fan

I think that’s a brilliant theory!

Joe Weaver

Just occurred to me "HER BIRTHDAY" can mean both evermore & Taylor. I read it as Taylor but then remembered plus as it's written it means evermore anyway. Nevermind.

Aloha Record Sargent

I do think you are on to something, I just can't piece it all together. Maybe Rep represents regained confidence, so she is regaining her confidence to take her music back (rerecordings) and to return to pop (Midnights)? Just like it was her coming back stronger than a '90s trend in the Willow MV....

Marissa

YES literally was just about to type this

Marissa

Also, personally don't really notice or mind the missed focus, but if you have a DSLR you can always use manual focus since you're sitting in one place :) and then the focus will just stay there

Naomi Stern

Yay love it! Will you finish lover era also? There are more live Performances to fathom!!

Madeline

Evermore in the background constantly stealing the focus from you guys because she’s like „I’M STILL HERE, mom stop ignoring me“ 🤣❤️‍🔥 Loved the video 💫

Chloe Amelia

I feel like she uses the idea of a circus, or circus artists a lot!! The whole vibe of this video and the setting reminds me of lyrics in mirrorball and in karma, "I'm still on that tightrope, I’m still trying everything to get you laughing with me. I’ve never been a natural, all I do is try try try, I’m still on that trapeze, I’m still trying everything to keep you looking at me" and then the line "Karma is a cat sitting in my lap cuz it loves me, flexing like a goddamn acrobat, me and karma vibe like that." So interesting to think about the continued use of specific talents like doing trapeze, walking the tightrope, acrobats, etc.

Chloe Amelia

and how all of those talents tie into being a performer

Arne Cabigas

wow coming through with the new airpods pro

Cole Jones

I always assumed that the gold orbs represent her songs/music. The witches dancing around them represent the industry as well as our culture that worships celebrities and everything they do. Similar to a cult. A cult that she participated in and contributed to throughout her career (unknowingly; she was just “going along with” what other people were doing and what she thought she was supposed to do) up until Rep era. Joe also dabbled in the industry as well before figuring out that it’s a shady messed up place. The 2016 Met Gala seemed to be the turning point for them both. That’s around the time the world decided they hated Taylor and simultaneously she decided to leave all of that behind, return home, and focus on what really matters. Joe followed her away from the scene and that’s when they find each other. They both were following the thread of gold that led them to each other. But it was invisible to everyone else.

Mariana Rocha

I really hope the surprise is merch. I want to buy it. 100%

Adam Moore

the music at the start of willow is from the (moonlit witch version) of willow

Amanda Mittelman

So excited to watch this!!! I literally named my golden retriever Willow, so obviously I’m a huge fan of this song 💛

maltyyy

Love my evermore girlies😭🥰 Are you gonna talk about the apple music interview?🥹🥹

forevermore

Em is making me wanna drop even more $ on Taylor’s merch. I need this cowboy like me sweater in my life.

Erica

And you look badass and stunning too!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻💗

Nicole Hunt

I’m so excited for Evermore MONTH! Because Midnights is brilliant but Evermore is still my #1.

Zoe

I need a 10 hour sleep to process the fathoming that I just witnessed

MsWaldo2009

I actually think the beginning sounds like bejeweled. Especially as in the beginning of the bejeweled video you can see that golden string on the floor leading up to her and then she says “this is some of her best work ever”… isn’t that what the media said about Folklore and Evermore??

Jenna Aguirre

For the witchy part, Taylor has said in the past that Willow feels like casting a spell to make someone fall in love with you. So, I think that’s what that is. She got all her witch friends (lol) together to manipulate the source of the invisible string. It’s very Mastermind!!

Jenna Aguirre

And her following the invisible string after is like she didn’t need to do all that witchery/mastermind stuff because Joe already loved her and the invisible string was tying them together without Taylor’s manipulation. Also very much gives “you knew the entire time” from Mastermind.

Jenna Aguirre

With the context of all of the Joe songs we have now, I feel like he was very much trusting the process and trusting the fates that him and Taylor were meant to be together and was willing to wait it out. Whereas Taylor was fighting the process in some moments and then trying to manipulate the fates in other moments when really all she had to do was trust the process like Joe. But, obviously, she has demons and skeletons from her past relationships screaming from the crypt. I feel like it was meant for her to go through that though to be able to get past those old relationships that have scarred her.

Jenna Aguirre

Ok also the ending - gold was the color of the leaves when I showed you around centennial park 🍂

Cierra Golden

To me the ending of cardigan sounds like the beginning of willow but played in reverse.

MsWaldo2009

LOVE this theory!!!! It does give Mastermind vibes

Adyson

I'm soo scared about the suprise, what if you have met Taylor fucking Swift and you are gonna tell us this!!!!!!!

Sofia Luna

Yaaay for Evermore month! This video was one of my absolute favorite, the fathoming!!!!

Elis Llinares

This is FUCKED UP! Hahahahhaha! I aways thought the part where she’s around the “fire” is very Outlander-ish, but in my simple brain all I could think of was “oh she must like Outlander to use these visual”. I’m ridiculous. I feel like I don’t deserve Taylor’s genius.

Laura

this was too much oh my god. When emily said "into the daylight" I shed a tear!! Taylor's mind is too much, absolute genius. This was so eye opening thank you for this!!

MarkH

There are so many comments here, I'm sure someone has said this already, but when she comes out of the tree at the beginning in the brown dress, it is actually giving a Lord of the Rings hobbit vibe to me! Some hobbits lived in hollow trees if I remember right. But also the scene with all the balls of light is giving a "cast a spell to make someone love you" feel, which is what she said the track sounded like to her. Anyway, great job as usual.. Never did I think of train like the train of a dress, but that makes sense--he follows the train of her dress home.

Chloé

I love how you kept saying offensive things one after another at the end ! About the scene with the little kids under the tent I take it as Taylor not having friends when she was a child, being alone and on her own and having literally her destiny (the invisible string) in her hands, which then leads her to the box which is the metaphor for her career and her fame. And I find it interesting the fact that after a while she realizes she's trapped in this box like she must have felt trapped in her status, in the fame...

Rachael Peroutky

I think of the gold string as them following their own journeys. Throughout the video they come together and depart again, each following their own path that inevitably intertwines.

Rose Ellen

Watching this video again with you guys really made me notice how the first scene when she comes out of the tree, feels kind of like albums 1-3 - there's the green and water of Debut, the gold of Fearless and the purple leaves of Speak Now. In that scene she's dreaming about finding real love, but it's all in her imagination, she hasn't found it yet. Then she dives into the water and becomes the little girl in the tent...very similar vibe to Everything Has Changed video (there is literally a tent scene) so this could represent Red. She thinks she's found a great connection, but then the boy vanishes. Also notice how the string ends in the tent, she has to go back the way she came. So like the relationships in that era felt like the real thing but were really just dead ends. Then in the 1989 era she's in a glass box, on her own...which gives us vibes of Frightful Adam and how even though she was technically with someone she felt alone and like she said in Miss Americana 'I didn't have a partner that I could high five'....and then she 'high fives' the representation of Joe through the glass. HELP.

Maria Carmen

I will need 3 to 5 business days to recover from this!!! What an absolutely offensive video! So much fathoming. I appreciate your insights so much and it’s incredible how deep the references and the callbacks of Taylor’ songs are ❤️❤️

Mark James

I was just about to add this comment! I agree

Samskie

Omg I have fathomed so much 😱 thank you for this. Also, going down that trap door from the 1989 glass cage to the witchy Rep scene - and I fell from the pedestal right down the rabbit hole...... There is so much Long Story Short in this video.

Bobhog

Maybe the string she follows from the "fire" was his part of the string. As in they were supposed to meet at the "fire" but missed each other (I go back to wanting dudes who give nothing etc). But he followed her train and they met back home, or something...

Michael

PLEASE say the sneaky surprise is you guys bringing us some Evermore fathoming from Long Pond since she hasn’t had her Long Pond moment yet 😂

Dalton Daugette

The instrument you guys were wondering what she was holding was a variation of the mandolin, a stringed instrument that traditionally has been used very prominently in country music 🤠

Brandi Brock

This was superior fathoming ladies. I am unwell.

Grace Jackson

Friends just a note maybe turn off your auto focus once your in focus so it doesn’t keep going in and out. Love you all 💖

Alyssa

Not Bonny calling a mandolin a banjo 😂😂

Alex H.

One of the first things that came to mind when re-watching the scene where the "witches" dance around the glowing orbs, was the 3 fates in Disney's Hercules. The fates from Greek mythology are three sisters-the youngest would spin the thread of a new life when a baby was born, the middle sister uses her ORB/globe to chart people's fates, and the eldest sister can determine when someone dies. So I see the glowing orbs and strings attached to them as many different lives, and when she follows the one string out of the circle, we think it's his, but really it's her string that leads her to him.

Leilani Willcox

Loved this so much! Willow is such a special music video and I just loved fathoming everything deeper with you guys! <3

Marie Guidry

When y’all were talking about the string leading him rather than her, it reminded me of Mastermind because while there were all these coincidences that led them to each other, she also kind of planned out meeting him and wanting him, therefore her creating the invisible string and leading him to her because she’s a mastermind!!

Katherine McClintic

I've always interpreted this as learning how to make your own invisible string/being the creator of your own fate, the orbs, and after mastermind I can't NOT see the orbs that way, The hood in this and bejeweled both happen when she goes into hiding, or is sneaking out, doing something secret, so it's reputation/hiding in plain sight "meet me at midnight" /"wait for the signal and I'll meet you after dark"

Katherine McClintic

Yes making your own destiny that's what I always thought this was, and doing that in secret!

Katherine McClintic

absolutely!!! Also meet me in the afterglow, like making fate out of the ashes of old things!

Kristen Batye

45:27 '..was that your key in the door? Is it okay?...is it you?' 🥹

Derick Mitchell Matthews

So I have this thing ;) where anytime Taylor drops a new album, I always do a once over on it and then relisten to her whole discography because immersing the new album especially Midnights amongst her other glorious albums gives an entirely new look and feel on her music overall. Evermore is just that album I can turn on any given day (especially now during the holidays) and just drift away into bliss/content poignancy so totally with you Emily about the lack of acknowledgement on what I consider perhaps her best album ever!!! Her talent is just unfathomable!! I also love how you two preface your vids/reactions with a reflection and conversation of what you're going to be watching. SUPERIOR!! Edit/Intepretation of Video: I seriously just came to this epiphany (all pun intended) right now but I believe that Folklore and this whole album particulary was a tribute to China and the Eastern World during the pandemic due to all the hate, blame and racist/xenophobia that their people recieved from America particularly! The non-linear storytelling approach that she uses is reminiscent of how the Eastern World passes down stories to younger generations and the mythology that surrounds their narratives. Taylor is EVERYTHING!! I'm going to try not to go into a whole tangent or thesis but this whole video and the concept of Willow has many ties to Eastern and specifically Chinese cultural traditions and mythology. She starts off with water visuals which in Eastern civilization is the cradle of life and society, then with the willow concept she is making the connection of immortality and a rebirthing through him. The circus and medieval scene has a Barnum and Bailey feel while also displaying tarot cards that portray a telling of everything she will go through in her life, another tie in to the mythological aspect/horoscope witchy aspect. It is also worth noting the love interest looks to be a person of Asian ethnicity or descent and also the idea of the Butterfly Effect which she mentioned in "Bigger Than The Whole Sky" so as to the notion of everything she did was a step of leading her closer to him and vice versa. I also want to mention the way she is dressed is very akin to Rep but also with the people behind her seems to be an ode to Shamanic Witch Spiritual Practices which if you research it is related to Wicca Witchcraft and the idea that Taylor is conjuring up her own good fortune and healing (also the concept she made of her being a witch to everyone who turned against her). The question you both had about the orbs of light to me give the visual of Chinese lanterns which in their culture symbolizes starting over/new beginnings and good fortune this of course representative of coming out of 1989 into Rep era, which also in keeping with the Willow motif along with the invisible string and her meeting Joe. Our girl always does her homework :)

Alice

It’s evermore’s birthday now! Can’t wait for our surprise 😄

Paige

I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY. I just watched the Grammy performance of Willow and the moment she sings "you know that my train could take you home, anywhere else is hollow" she grabs the TRAIN of her dress and spins around HELLOOOOO.

Nin Reckermann

all your theories about the fire actually fit so well to what I said in my greatest fathoming document: the fire is the party and the string is her hand and the train is maybe the elevator

Marla April

Maybe the next ERA is... "MANIFEST" (from the Midnights release week calendar?)
