hey y'all!! here's our first December episode~ I hope you enjoy :') I talk about current crochet projects, art inspo, and also open up about some aging related insecurities I've been having lately ;; it's a little embarrassing, in all honesty, but I wanted to talk about it especially since it's been taking up so much real estate in my head.

Here are those Yoriyuki Pokémon cards I mentioned:

Like, they are so beautiful it makes my heart ache ToT

I hope you're doing alright <33 sending all my love xx

I'm in my early 30s and have been seeing signs of aging on my face this year and I don't like it either. I also know I've been dealing with stress and that could be making it worse. I've mostly been using different skincare creams and trying to adjust my routine, because maybe my old routine isn't for my age group anymore. I am trying to remind myself that this is a natural process of aging, even if I'm not ready to deal with it. I'm also trying to not spend too much time staring at my face, as making myself feel bad for something that I probably would have to deal with later, even if I can delay the aging signs I'm seeing now. My siblings who are also in their early 30s or reaching 30, have seen signs of aging. I know this isn't helpful, but I saw other women in their 30s had the same condition I had, so I think around the 30s is probably the first time we're dealing with the thought of not appearing as young as we remember ourselves. You're not alone. ❤️

Podcast sounds like a string of voice notes from a friend which i love, thankyou for keeping me company while at work at 6am. I tried to make points while i was listening along - Pepper and soapie pokemon cards sound so so fun!! - Chider actually sounds so good to me rn it is freezing here, perhaps i may look into getting some 🙂‍↕️ - on the topic of aging and learning to like how you are looking as you age, it is so hard. Im 22 and i somehow still find myself looking at myself at 18 and wondering why i dont look the same, but its the remembering that you will never look the same, not even really as you did last week yknow, ans thats the beauty of it. I mainly find if i feel good i will speak kinder of myself when i look in the mirror, the things you talked about like hydration and eating habits really do unfortunately play a role, i wish loving ourselves was easier but we can only try Anyway this is a long enough comment, thankyou for the pod and have a good day!!

I think if you have the means to alter your body in any way then you can do it, aside from all the outside pressures keeping you from doing so. Your morals around it shouldn’t necessarily affect me or anyone else watching because I’m not accessing your content to learn more about cosmetic surgery, so if you were to do it I wouldn’t even have to know (but I would be happy for you hehe). In that same breath you should know and understand boundaries with yourself when it comes to cosmetic surgery. I think the method you mentioned is cool because it’s more natural! It makes it a little less intimidating. And by taking away all the pressures of perceiving yourself in relation to video content and your acting career, at the end of the day it’s something you want to/can do. I think that’s pretty empowering. :,)

Whether you get the procedure or not I don’t think you have to feel a huge moral weight! I think it’s not good or bad and like you said feeling more confident could overall be a better thing. I know from personal experience that if you don’t eat enough healthy fats your skin can be a lot more dry! Not necessarily a cause what so ever but I thought I would share that incase it is a factor 😊 also I never noticed this about you or any differences, you always look so beautiful! love the podcast and love the conversation about this because this is something I think about a lot.

such a cozy podcast and perfect listen for my walk today!! i support whatever you decide to do + agree with the comment above that the procedure doesn't have to have a moral weight to it. But for what its worth i literally have never noticed any changes you talk about here and you always look very very pretty to me <3

just sharing another perspective: it may be helpful to move away from the frame of “is it morally right or wrong to get a cosmetic procedure as a public-facing person on the internet.” And reframe it as “does choosing this procedure align with my own values”

this podcast ep was so so lovely! a couple of thoughts: -my friend went to Prosper Nutrition Wellness in Seattle (virtually) for help with neurodivergence & food and found it really helpful! -i also hardly ever want to cook and finally admitted that to myself and switched from hello fresh to factor (meal delivery service) and the executive function issues around eating got soooo much better re aging and body modification, i know what it feels like to get super stuck in thoughts of the moral and philosophical implications of your choices. those things are important to consider dont get me wrong AND at a certain point its your body and you live in it! 1. if its something you’re addressing with makeup often (either professionally or personally) then all the procedure is doing is reducing the daily work 2. even if you counter aging in some ways, there are still ~plenty~ of ways youll be navigating and confronting it, so its not copping out of the whole process 3. i actually think by addressing it and discussing your feelings (so much of which i related to), you’re setting a wonderful example! tw weight loss talk i had a moral and existential crisis for like a year about going on weight loss meds to help treat some health issues and when i finally did i told a trans friend about it and was basically like “ill understand if you judge me” and she said “why the hell would i judge you, i take something to change my body every single week!” all that is to say, participating in societal narratives can feel bad and also be a morally neutral decision for you that has positive impacts sorry for the novel, had so many thoughts! sending you care!!!

I am shocked by how much of this podcast related to me (even the crocheting a hat, realizing my tension is too tight, and needing to block a few wool projects). Which I'm trying to say is, you're not alone. While I don't record myself, I'm on zoom calls constantly and find that I stare at my face all the time and pick apart the changes life has made to my face; and what I've noticed, with myself, is that these thoughts can have seasons to them. Sometimes they are so loud and feel so pressing, and I'll make a plan, start to save up for my solution, and then.. two - three months go by and I find that my perspective has shifted. It feels like making a loaf of bread. You knead it, put a lot energy into a thought, and then you let it rest, let it develop. Did it rise and stay full of energy? or did it just stay a flat lump of dough? Not to solutionize the thoughts you shared, just, I guess, sharing my own perspective on such a relatable podcast for me.

Wanted to share this writer/journalist who really interrogates beauty culture and skincare. Her name's Jessica Defino and she has a substack, but she's done a lot of interviews on different podcasts. (If you just search her name in your podcast app, a bunch of episodes come up). She's really helped me reshape my thoughts around aging!

Not sure if this is just a me problem or an Apple/Patreon problem but for some reason this episode showed up in my Apple Podcasts as an episode from October. The audio was this episode but all the posting info was from “moms in town” Also wanted to rec a video by Leena Norms about skincare (“Lies you should unlearn about skincare”) that is very good and I think you would like. She talks a little about anti aging and what the feelings behind it are for her, that she’s done a lot of work to like the way she looks, but when her looks keep changing how that work is continuous.

For the crochet tension, I find that my slip stitch and single crochet tension is tighter than my double or half-double crochet stitches. I find it much easier to get in the groove of working with those latter two, kinda interesting. Also, Republic of Tea makes a really good apple cider tea and I would definitely recommend trying it! I'm going to be trying it with my chai now, so thanks for the lovely idea. :D
