hi!! happy end of july!! here's our second july podcast~

I cannot stress enough how BIG and COOL this Vasa ship was, I legit yelled a bit when we first walked in, several people turned to look at me, I couldn't deal!! it was SO COOL

also, i forgot to talk about this, but there were these two french teens who came up to me at one point cause i was drawing in my sketchbook on some steps, and they were so sweet; they thought i was 17 years old like them AHAH but they were so nice about my sketches and one of them said they liked my guillotine earrings and said "i'm french, so ;o) it's kinda my thing"

I've also just been contemplating Content in general~ again, not necessarily in a negative way?? but just re-examining my art stuff and career goals and things. SIGH important but scary things to think about!!

i hope y'all have a great weekend! talk soon xx

Do what you need to do to find peace in your process and love of your craft. We will support you regardless. As for the pressure to also put out unsponsored content on YouTube, I personally don't bat an eye at them since it's your job to make videos and I am in no way unique so I am sure none (or at least the majority of your loyal viewers) mind either. Enjoy Just Kids, it's a personal favourite of mine x

Just read this quote after listening to your podcast “Be selective. Protect your time. Not everything that calls your name is meant for you.”

Maggie Coe

I totally understand the video-making issues... I love filming but it's so time-consuming and editing is a pain. I do love your videos but I know there's a lot of work behind the scenes and how overwhelming it is. Take care of your creative self <3 we are here when you are ready!! Fulfilling your creative self's needs is priority! <3<3<3

Ohhh this is so interesting, these doubts about your career! I mean, I'm sorry that it's painful and frustrating navigating this, but also! it's so interesting to have to figure out and introspect yourself about it! While you were talking, I kept thinking about Sibylline, and Rebecca Green, or even Loish. Because they have a very established and I imagine financially sustainable online presence, but which doesn't rely on too personal matters. And that is something I could very well imagine your online presence shifting towards, at least on big open platform. (And ofc right now you're like yeah but I'm nothing like these goddesses of illustration... But! To most of us, there's really not so much difference, and even if you're not exactly where they are, it's the same general part of the road) From my perspective at least, your audience is well established enough that you could shift towards making art on your own quietly, and sharing it afterwards once in a while (like, not making art with the purpose of sharing it, but rather sharing the art you made, for the purpose of documenting your journey), making an occasional youtube video of art process, tutorial, draw with me, or even a vlog when you feel like it, and keep more personal content on patreon and maybe Twitch... I'm also thinking about the path that Fran took with her career the past few years, reframing the functioning of her shop, reducing a lot YT content, doing IG when and if she has time and a good idea, and keeping Patreon as the core of her creative bubble, documenting her journey through life and art... Idk, it feels like the path that these artists took could be a natural evolution for you as well... I hope you'll find your way ❤️

yeah, more and more I'm thinking I may take a slightly similar approach to Fran's stuff...I also like Rebecca Green's whole thing where she gets a little personal on her blog re: processes or times of change/struggle in her career/life, but it still feels distanced enough...

I have a lot to think about !! It's certainly very interesting and also a bit frustrating, but I think with an amorphus career like mine, periods of re-examination like this are super important! Thank you for your kind words <3

I've been to that museum! So much fun to listen to someone else talk about it lmao, everyone i tried to tell about it was so confused as to why i was so excited about a big boat.

Nicole Tihlarik

You probably have answered this like 10 billion times but where did you get those earrings? I get so jealous every time you wear them in a video

the guillotine ones? i got them from an etsy shop called The Felt Forge! They're no longer available from there, but I know there's lots of metal/acrylic ones available one Etsy !

Listening to your podcast, the honesty that you give is something that always keeps me in awe of you Cheyenne. Again you being a light like Sora is. Thank you for the honesty that you always share. Also inspired me a little to start working on a phone little story where the hero of the town is overwhelmed and ends up going away for a while to find their value in the story. Something really Zelda-esq, dnd-esq too. Just wanted to share that with ya.

ooOOH that sounds like such a lovely story!! i love the idea of link just being crushed by the responsibility instead of shouldering it wordlessly like he always does, and him just leaving on a journey of his own ;; SO GOOD and ahhh again that comment makes me all weepy TT thank you <33

I am (finally) listening to this, and I just got to the part where you are talking about how exhausting it is to constantly have the thought of “this could be content,” and how hard it is to always have the pressure of other people’s expectations of you. This made me start thinking about parasocial relationships, which most people consider from the perspective of the consumer (that feels so capitalistic and weird to say but idk how else to say it). Listening to you made me think about parasocial relationships from the perspective of the creator, how it’s all give and give and give and there is no (or there is very little) reciprocal giving back. I cannot imagine how hard it is to get to a point where you are essentially marketing your life (obviously you have boundaries and don’t share everything which is super healthy, but with your “brand” built on authenticity I get the feeling that it can become almost all-consuming). I think getting the studio space probably has helped with the “this is my work space/this is my home space,” which might help with the separation of work and personal. Honestly though, I have no idea about anything here, I don’t have social media because I get so stressed about “how much is too much” and “am I lying,” because I too am super into authenticity (which is part of why I love you so much). Anyway this is a really long and rambly way of saying that I support you, that you should do whatever makes you happy (and if taking time off from youtube is that, then I will keep rewatching your old videos because I love them, and they get more comforting the more I watch them) (lol I really hope that’s not creepy 😂). You are a wonderful and marvelous human being, and you inspire me so much to do things that scare me and to put my anxiety-ridden mind into perspective. ☺️💖 (Also you got me into video games so THANK YOU I love fire emblem 3 houses soooooooo much and I only got it because you talked about it, Dimitri is my man lol)

Seriously I have cried because of fire emblem and how good the relationships between the characters are…..

Listed to this episode during my breakfast and it really helped me to slow down a bit. What a good start into the day! The vasa ship is really really cool, i was there when i was really little so sadly i don’t remember it that much, only that it is HUGE :D Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, i really appreciate it ♡

Hi Cheyenne, thank you for sharing your thoughts and I hope you are able to get some clarity/answers for how you want to continue to grow moving forward. You have made a huge impact and have grown such a lovely community, so please take all the time you need to make your decisions. <3 I have a few friends that have careers in the art field and they have also run into the same problem of their art becoming their job and finding joy again in creating. Some continue to have side projects, while others have found other hobbies to replace what art used to be for them (like cooking, building things). I had a similar feeling when I was in art school and it just felt like I was making art to show to my professor that like 'hey I'm making art, I'm working and being diligent' and it did not feel fun making art at the time. I ended up working at a corporate job after graduating and I just quit that job a few months ago after being there for years because I was just unhappy. I've picked up painting again and I'm happy about the progress I have made so far, and definitely am much happier making art now than I did when I was in school. It sucks that there are no clear answers to navigate how to move forward, but I'm sure taking some time to re-evaluate what you want to do will come naturally and this of course includes what will make you happy. Thank you once again for sharing some of your anxieties about being an artist and being open about your concerns. We are rooting for you!
