Hello my dears!! I hope you enjoy this podcast ep! The first of our September ones~~ It features me talking about how I've stopped doing The Artist's Way challenge and why, my first foray into pottery, and lots and LOOOOTS of me talking about DnD and Baldur's Gate 3. My brain is filled with rangers and vampires and druids and magic and goblins!!! And it's such a joy!!

I hope you're well! Sending all my love <3

Homing pigeon who can't find his way home because he's forgotten? Chey, I'm going to cry Also ranger/druid multiclass is so cool, even just to get Shillelagh (I built a character like this recently and could take about them all day)

oh, no, i was making a primarily melee ranger because the rest of the party was squishy. i stand by the multiclass slapping, though 😅

Cheyenne, i initially started the artist way due to your influence, but also stopped myself. I could barely get through week 2 without feeling like i wasnt gaining what I need too. i loathed getting up earlier for doing the morning pages but i might also try to start doing them later in the day. youve inspired me alot with my art journey and i appreciate your honesty with life things. things dont always work out, and thats okay :)

i think it's amazing that you even start to do the artist's way as well. but when it starts to get overwhelming, i am always one for just prioritising what is needed. the journey is supposed to give you warmth and motivation, and it's fine if it doesn't. that's just how it is! you're so real for this and i love that!

i will say the morning pages definitely help the most when i do them within the first hour of waking up, but having any kind of journaling practice is invaluable i think! follow your heart!

Omg Chey yeah I also can’t stand the vagueness of the Artists Way tasks either 😭😭 (I also wondered if it was a neurodivergent thing). Just tell me what you want from me Julia and I’ll do it!! 😂 It sounds like you got a lot from the experience, and even if you didn’t it’s your life and you made the best decision for you right now! 🥳 huge congrats for getting as far as you did. ⭐️

the challenge is also definitely meant to be ~challenging~ but i feel like it was challenging me in ways that julia didn't intend/anticipate lmao. gotta spend my time on what serves me!!!

mystikmisfit

woooo! doodled in my sketchbook while listening to this ^-^ D&D has always been so fascinating to meeee! I love how you share what brings you joy cause it always is just so inspiring & gets my curiosity going. Yay for character / world building and story telling ToT <3 so super cool.

I’m in love with Francis. If you ever do any doodles of him and feel comfortable sharing I would Like To See It because cowboy pigeon aarakockra? Yes??? (No pressure, of course!) Also Francis’ backstory with the loss of identity is giving Taako’s “who? What if who’s gone?” From taz balance / the stolen century in the best way. I’m emotional

don't!!!! remind me !!! of the infamous "who?" moment!!!! that's absolutely what this is oh god why have i broken my own heart like this

Highly recommend The Great Pottery Throwdown if you like pottery and GBBO vibes! It's my comfort show lol. Also I'm so obsessed with BG3 it consumes all my waking thoughts

the CHILLS i got and the TEARS I shed listening to that for the first time (and on every re-listen since then tbh). unreal. Classic D&D making me feel things about a silly wizard named after mexican food or a cowboy pigeon

I liked the Artists Way but I really struggled with all the journaling! I think you can take what works for you and leave the rest. It's good that you can recognize what's not working.

LOL. I find that crocheting is my spiritual practice. Whenever I have to frog something my husband says it's my Buddhist meditation on non-attachment!

do you know what time on friday the shop is opening? i want to set an alarm haha

Pottery classes sound so fun! And session 0 of a DnD campaign? Lots of amazing things ahead of you! I really want to join a campaign with my bestie but we're both much too busy to commit to one. I'm planning to get BG3 (and a PS5), and I keep thinking of making a ranger/rogue multiclass with gloom stalker or a druid/barbarian multiclass. (Also, no shame in romancing Astarion. He is SO hot)

i'm a gloomstalker!!!! it's so fun!!! thinking about maybe multi-classing as a druid but i kinda like really fucking stuff up as a gloomstalker hehe

I really didn't enjoy the artists way at all. Maybe it's the severe untreated mental health issues lol, but it always made me feel inadequate because even tasks that you're really supposed to commit to (like the morning pages) were basically impossible for me to keep up with every day or really regularly at all. The whole 'your job is to show up, it isn't your problem whether what you produce is good or not' wasn't encouraging because I couldn't even do that. And after years of going back and forth on the whole 'am I just lazy/undisciplined or can I really not do this' I know for a fact that it's an executive functioning issue not laziness. But it feels like Julia treats the morning pages and a lot of the stuff in the artists way in a dogmatic way, like her methods are completely full proof and completely accessible to absolutely everyone. I really didn't enjoy that vibe and it felt consistent throughout the tone of the book. I couldn't even get past chapter 3 even when I was just reading it lol. I'm glad it's helped so many people but it's defintely one of those really popular phenomenons that just isn't for me. Everyone has at least one!

Is the artists way something you could do over like 2 week periods instead of doing it weekly? I would definitely struggle with trying to do something like that weekly as well. I’ve had to tell myself at times that when something tells you you should do a task within a certain amount of time it’s okay of I adjust it to a time frame that works for me. But I’m not sure if the artists way could be structured like that.

Sarah

I love hearing about baulder’s gate because I have a friend playing and send them fan art of astarion because they’re so good. I like getting gameplay context.
