Yadong vs Gutierrez

While Gutierrez is a competent kickboxer, he is not as powerful as Yadong. Further, the grappling and wrestling edges should also go to Song here. Yadong may choose to strike which would make for a fun but potentially challenging bout. His power should still be enough to get him by but the kicks from Gutierrez are a concern over five rounds. Either way, I favor Yadong here, but he could make it closer than it needs to be.

Rountree vs Smith

In his prime, Smith was never durable. As he’s regressed as a fighter he’s become even more vulnerable. Rountree is inconsistent with mental game issues but is a dangerous, powerful kickboxer for the first round or two. In the early going, I expect Smith to be in a world of trouble. The question is if he can get to the later portion when Khalil begins to tire. My guess is Rountree dummies him with powerful kicks and punches en route to a stoppage.

Elliott vs Mudaerji

These two are each the krypotnite of the other. Elliott has the wrestling and grappling advantages while Mudaerji is the better striker. Elliott has inconsistent performances and doesn’t always fight to the best of his ability. If he’s on, I expect him to be able to wrestle his way to victory. But an off night from him entails poor striking, sloppy takedowns and subpar cardio. On paper, I favor Elliott, but he’s not particularly trustworthy in this spot.

Haqparast vs Mullarkey

The striking of Haqparast faces the grinding non-offense of Mullarkey. Haqparast will need to keep this standing and get his punching volume going while avoiding the constant clinch and wrestling entries. Mullarkey, meanwhile, has limited offense in all areas including the mat. Even when he gets on top, there just isn’t much to offer. This is a tough one because neither is trustworthy and even if Mullarkey has success he may not land enough offense to win rounds. I hesitantly pick Haqparast.

Park Jun-yong vs Muniz

Yet another striker vs grappler matchup here as Park is mostly a brawler with limited technique, especially on the mat. Muniz is the reverse, with rudimentary striking and mediocre wrestling but solid top position BJJ. Muniz doesn’t seem to have much heart and wilts under pressure while Park is better at enduring a battle. Muniz also seems to gas quicker. Park by TKO.
