Hey, guys, welcome to another “Creative Process” blog, where I let you in on some sweet deets about my audio making adventures.
So, I’ll confess…. I’m an outrageous workaholic. I grew up very poor, and as a result, I have a very high drive to work and prosper. That said, I’ve never had hobbies. I never saw the need for them, or the benefit, and so most of my life has been spent carving my “road to success”. And while I have indeed become very successful in my “real life” career outside of Youtube, I’ve found that my need for a creative, leisurely outlet is very real.
That’s where Youtube came in. I found ASMR by chance, when my girl showed me a video one night. At first I thought it was kinda weird, and I didn’t get it. But my curiosity got the better of me and I went back to it, finding that there was a good bit of the content I enjoyed. Then I came across role play ASMR, and I was even more intrigued. I listened to several, finding that I really enjoyed the stories, and found some of the artists’ voices particularly soothing.
This inspired me and I started my own channel. That was two years ago, and to this day, the channel is my great escape. My release from work is breaking out this laptop, pulling up a Google document and creating stories. Entire worlds. Plots, twists, villains, heroes. And it’s interesting that I would choose the hobby of voice acting, because I have a very delicate voice condition. I went for almost two years without being able to speak much, sing, or do much of anything that involved my vocal cords. And it is a constant battle for me to keep my voice healthy. That’s why I have to take breaks from recording every so often, which always bums me out. I hate the idea of letting you guys down, and I’m always afraid that I’m gonna be seen as lazy, or be accused of using my health condition as an excuse/crutch.
But ya know what? Even my voice condition is, I think, the universe’s way of making sure I don’t overwork myself with my hobby. It forces me to slow down, take breaks, and keep it a thing of leisure, rest, release. Thank you guys (my patrons) for being such an overwhelmingly kind and supportive group. My whole tribe is amazing, and I love everyone who’s subscribed on Youtube as well. But you guys go the extra mile, and I am continually honored and so thankful for you. You guys have made my channel what it is, and you’ve pushed me to go further with it than I ever dreamed I could. You guys inspire me, you have me constantly thinking and asking, “what can I cook up next for those little monkeys?”
You’re a bright spot in my world, patrons. I hope you know that. Be kind, be good, and I’ll talk to you next time. Much love,
-B
