Spooky Milk Life: Reborn — Test Build & Development Update (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone,
Today, I’d like to introduce the test build of Spooky Milk Life: Reborn and share where development is heading.
Reborn is a new project that reworks the original game’s core systems and takes its story in a new direction. It is not an update to the existing game.
As the original game grew, its underlying structure made recurring bugs harder to fix and new features harder to implement. I decided to rebuild that foundation so I could move development forward more reliably.
I understand this may be disappointing for those waiting for the original game’s next chapter. This post explains what’s changing, what’s planned, and what you can currently experience in the test build.
What to Expect from This Test Build
This is an early gameplay and systems preview, with very little story content included. The goal is to let you try the new mechanics and help shape them before more content is added.
The features and controls shown here are still being developed and may change. Let me know what you enjoy, what feels awkward, and what you’d like to see improved.
Your feedback will help me identify what needs work, refine the systems, and address problems before expanding the game further.
A New Direction for the Story
The story will take a different approach from the original game.
Previously, each character’s story was woven into one overarching plot. In Reborn, the plan is to give each character their own separate storyline, with more room to explore their individual stories and relationships.
These storylines are still in development and are not the focus of this build. For now, the priority is testing and refining the systems that will support them.
Combat — From Turn-Based to Real-Time
Combat has changed from turn-based battles to real-time action. You now move your character directly, attack, and time your parries during combat.
The current test build uses the following controls:
- WASD: Move
- Arrow keys: Attack
- Shift: Parry
These controls are temporary. I plan to move attacks and some other actions to mouse-based controls in a future build. Feedback on responsiveness, ease of use, and the overall feel of combat will help guide those changes.
Adult Scene Rework — Spine Animation & Improved Physics
The adult scenes are being rebuilt using Spine, replacing the previous sprite-based animation system.
The old approach had limitations when adjusting playback speed and movement, and file size was another concern. Spine gives me more flexibility to create smoother animations and more responsive physics.
One of the biggest improvements is more natural breast physics, allowing movement to react more convincingly to the character’s motion instead of relying entirely on fixed animation frames.

-AFTER-
You can also control the animations directly by clicking and dragging within the scene, giving you more control over the pace and movement.
The animations and physics are still being fine-tuned, so let me know how they feel and where you think they could be improved.
Name Your Protagonist
You can now choose a name for the protagonist.
Writing dialogue around an unnamed protagonist sometimes made it difficult for characters to address them naturally.
The new system allows characters to use your chosen name in dialogue, helping conversations flow more naturally.
Lockpicking & Exploration
I plan to add locked chests and areas that you can open through lockpicking.
This mechanic will give you more things to discover and interact with while exploring, with content built around it to be added as development progresses.
Please Read Before Playing
Dungeon content and story progression are currently incomplete. Some areas are inaccessible, while others are empty or unfinished.
Please treat this build as a preview of the available mechanics, rather than a complete gameplay or story experience.
You may also encounter incomplete features and unexpected bugs. After playing, feel free to share:
- What you liked or disliked about the new systems
- Controls or mechanics that felt awkward or unclear
- Bugs or issues that prevented you from progressing
- Anything you think could be improved
For bug reports, please include what happened, steps to reproduce the issue if possible, and any relevant screenshots. These details make it much easier to investigate.
For now, I’m focusing on fixing bugs, improving stability, and refining the core systems. Your feedback will help me identify what needs attention before I expand the story and other content.
Give the build a try and let me know what you think—both what works and what doesn’t. I’ll keep you updated as development progresses.
Thanks for checking out Spooky Milk Life: Reborn!
