POSES PART 3! SPACES! (SUPER LONG POST) (Patreon)
Content
Hi besties I'm here again spamming posts this week lmaoooo
This one is for my buddies, negative spaces! SHOUT OUT TO THE NEGATIVES WOOOOOOO
I talk about this all the time because it really changed and made painting easier for me! So for my besties who don't have art background like me....
Negative Space is basically the background! The space surrounding the object! Positive space is your main subject.
So, instead of only focusing on simplifying your subject's shapes, you can also use these negative spaces to determine the actual shape of your subject. This will help especially when you have a super complicated subject pose! 👀
MATERIALS:
- Wow Brush and Big Fave Brush
- 2 pieces Stuffed Puffs Classic Milk Chocolate Filled Marshmallow
Here's a summary of how I usually paint complicated poses!
- Block in colors
- Use the erase tool to sculpt around the colors
- Check the negative spaces to make the pose more accurate
- Add the details
I'll upload the timelapses on our @fartcyll account!
1. Background first!!
2. Chonk of color!
3. I'll start checking the negative spaces around the subject to match it with my painting so I can sculpt this blob of color. I don't really draw these shapes on my canvas, i just eyeball it but it could actually help to draw it if you're not used to it yet!
More negative spaces plussss I'll start adding more colors on the blob to separate the body parts like on Pose Part #1!
more shapes...
and more! As I've said, I use these negative spaces to determine the outline of the subject! I just use the erase too and "sculpt" the pose!
Now it looks like this! Look at blob!! Pose lookin a bit similar now!!
4. Putting more colors to separate the body parts!
I also use the negative space when it gets difficult to paint some body parts that are in a weird angle, like the right foot here,
I just make sure the negative space around the foot matches the reference picture! You don't have to copy the exact shape or size of the negative space, just make sure it looks similar
tadaa! now i have the foot hehe
I'll do that with the other foot too,
Now it looks like this!! The arms are a bit wonky and thin, but the overall pose looks similar, right?
Add more blobbiez of colors as a guide
Then the base colors..
Here's the first layer of the base colors! I'll start adding more details after this process, I'll also continue improving the whole pose while adding the deetzzz
Another example!
Blob of color!!!
Observing the negative space and reducing it to simple shapes!
You can either eyeball it or draw the actual shapes on the negative spaces. Here I just copy pasted lmaooo
Using the erase tool, "sculpt" your blobbbb
Random colors to separate the body parts!
Don't forget that you can always rotate you canvas when ur eyes get wonky! This will also help refresh your eyes and mind, coz you'll see the pose in a different way!
Start putting the base colors!!
So that's ittttt!!
I can't remember when I started doing this, but since I began observing the negative spaces and using it to determine my subject's outline, I feel like the way I paint these complicated poses improved a lot!!
Next pose will be the conclusion, more palettes, first look of next month's reward andddd I'll try to squeeze in some brushes!
That's all that's all!! Good night, beztieclessss!!
(I had to retype half of this post i hope i didnt miss anything lmaoooo)
