Full painting video (stream record) - without cuts ;) and with adnotation which colours and mixes were used :D

pots77

Maznislav

I'm really enjoying the Trench Crusade aesthetics lately - would love to see you painting one of their models.

Peter G

Perhaps there is a job in freshening up some of the older tutorials, where the models are no longer available without going to the black market. I personally like to follow along with the same model, then take the learnings into my own work. Perhaps revisiting some topics would be good.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Hello! I like the idea but I find it difficult to show you all the hours of recording I do, as they are very many (think that I paint 8 hours a day). I'll give it a try and discuss it with the team to know what we can do.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Yes, our idea is to try to make the content more fresh and new. We are aware that some of the projects are already discontinued and the miniatures are no longer available or they were unique projects. That is something that we can not remedy as it does not depend on us directly but we do like to incorporate new projects from companies we have already worked with and also new works of Workshop that we have pending. Can you think of any other way to improve what you said about the miniatures?

Maznislav

All their models are really cool IMO :) If I have to pick one my favorite is probably the Shrine Anchorite.

Pierre Schroeder

Hello Sergio! Would love to see a painting tutorial of Kimera’s Victoria and Charlotte of the Domina series, i got my hands on them at the SMC Kimera booth last year and have been gathering courage to paint them since then, a guide to push me in the right direction would be very much appreciated :-)

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Hi! I am writing down the two models but it is a bit difficult to include them in the painting calendar since I usually work well in advance. I'll keep them in mind.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Hola!

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Yesterday I was talking with the team to see how we can include the idea. We have a preliminary draft that we are finishing shaping. We hope that in a few weeks we can start to include this kind of projects.

Aaron Reynolds

Love what you do already but would also like to see an occasional bust tutorial from you! Whatever you choose as your model, whether it is a bust or model, making sure it's something we can easily purchase is important. Thank you!

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Me gusta muchísimo!

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

I have two outstanding busts that were posted on social media and have videos on Youtube. They are two busts from Kimera Models company, Sa'Helar and Grigore.

Andrew Boggs

I'd love some basing or special effects specific tutorials, as I see a lot of cool advanced techniques you do for things like dripping blood, icicles, carving foam, resin, etc. that would be really interesting as the focus for a video! Like, "here are a bunch of techniques for making snowy and icy bases," or "here's how to make gore and blood look realistic." Or maybe some tutorials on adding environmental effects to the models themselves such as those caught in a desert, in a snowstorm, or trudging through a muddy area.

Markku Manner

Maybe the videos could have tags on what they cover? For example Mozrog Vol 3 could have tags "Orc" and "Skin". Then if you want to find videos covering those topics, it would be easier to find.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

I'll write down your idea because I think that making more specific videos about these kinds of topics will help you a lot.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Yes, we could do it. I will discuss it with Vanessa, to find out how we could implement it!

Steven Marlow

Id love little arrows/circles to show where the colour filters from the airbrush are hitting the model. I often find it hard to see what's actually being done with the airbrush and have to go back a few times as often they're so subtle. Love your guides btw thank you!

Peter G

My original point is really that you have some great early tutorials, which cover topics in depth and repeated on one model, so you really can practice practice practice. For example materials, madax, various leather and fabrics, death night, one main material and how it interacts. They cover material and light etc really well ,but being discontinued its off putting. I personally found the minis, but didnt like how I got them and was low quality. I want to upport the sculptors as much as you do. Maybe simply revisiting some core techniques one big idea per model would help get new people looking for core techniques to the channel.

Clayton Kneip

I would really appreciate tutorials for models that are currently available and likely to stay available. I want to go out and get the models and paint along.

Bo Johnson

Maybe an update on the ”painting with Vanessa”, but with updated materials and following your curriculum you use in your workshops, starting from beginner level?

Bo Johnson

Updated with English also 😊

Mark Austin

Hi Sergio, I'd love to see longer videos where you go a bit more in depth about everything you are doing in that very moment-- such as why you're choosing a particular color for the texture, why you're adding red to the brown for highlighting, etc...

Vor Arlberg

It would be great to have a video that shows how to do the blending with a brush instead with airbrush. I know you love airbrush but for various reasons I only paint with brush.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Hello! We have prepared a new section here on Patreon (which will be released soon) where we will see many techniques and will be focused for people who are just starting to paint and people who already have a good base and are looking to consolidate their knowledge or learn new techniques.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Hi! We will keep this in mind so that we can emphasize it in the videos and show more clearly where the paint is being applied.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

I understand it perfectly. Sometimes it is difficult because I paint it as a novelty but after a few months the company has decided to discontinue it or it has been limited editions. What I will continue to bring, because they seem to me very interesting projects to see my painting at the highest level are projects of unique pieces.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

This is what we will start publishing in the next few days. This is a kind of “academy” where using both new and old material you can begin to have a guide to turn to when you want to paint specific things, as well as see projects without cuts as you have asked us and strengthen painting knowledge from a basic level to the highest level.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Hi! We are starting to make these kind of videos, we hope to be able to publish them in the next few weeks.

Nelson Horton

This is what i have been waiting for. Thank you and cant wait.

Ruben Swagerman

Hi sergio I would like to see a video specific for filtering and colour theory behind the choices. Maybe also some recommendations about literature?

Piotr Kaczyński

Can you provide links to models which you are painting? Those from GW are easy to find (if in stock) but I struggle to find other models.

Muchas gracias!!

Jesús Jiménez Lorenzo

You can always try Google Lens on your phone or any other image based search engine.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

In the information box of each of the collections you have the company to which they belong.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Hola!! ^^

Aaron Reynolds

Hi Sergio! Really loving your content and lessons! Would love to see you tackle a Star Wars Shatterpoint model sometime. Thanks for considering!

Dani Roman

Fairly new to painting but really like the academy videos - have looked a number of different content creators and nine really do this effectively - difficult balance as either wayyyy to long or lack detail. These are just about right and really easy to follow. Thanks.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

I'm very glad you like the content and find it useful. That is precisely the reason why we are making this kind of videos.

opponenttheory

Hi Sergio I really enjoyed your capibases explanation video. Seeing you paint a single part is really helpful for understanding how to progress with each layer. Could you do something similar with different shaped surfaces? Or surfaces at different angles like a bent leg? Thanks!

J. Taselaar

Hi I would like to see more advanced techniques explained, and using more paint mixing color theorie because I'd like to have less pots of paint and use more unique colours. And not really long vids, 10 minutes max or longer ones chopped in parts.

Peder Thomas

I'd love to know a range of your favorite paints from AK. I started using them and love them and would like to pick more up and have a good place to start. I already have a couple blues, magentas, reds, and greens.

Jonay Brito Aguilar

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Yes, it could be done, but anyway, as we publish more content you will have more examples.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Hi! The problem with using few colors and resorting to mixtures is that the pigments used in acrylics are not as intense as others, so when we mix them, the pigment does not always maintain its saturation. That's why I always recommend you to buy the colors that you like, regardless of whether they can be made with a mixture or not. The important thing is always the quality of the pigment, since that will determine whether the paint works well or not.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Hi! I recommend that when buying colors, always focus on a project that you want to paint. This way with each project you can buy colors and not make an excessive outlay.

J. Taselaar

Thanks a lot that makes sence, keep the creativity going!

ArTrodes

Thomas BECK

Hi Sergio, I really appreciate your tutorials. Currently, Kimera Models is offering Raja the Dragon huntress for pre-order. I find this model absolutely gorgeous. Do you think it would be possible for you to make a tutorial? Thanks.

Kostas CH

Hey Sergio!!! Super happy that you have created this channel with all amazing content. I would kindly ask for a complete Academy breakdown of manipulating paint: from how mush you put on your wet pallete, different kind of paint bottles (hi GW...), loading, mixing and cleaning brushes, amount of water and best practises on brush painting, control and taking care of them. Thanks!

Rémi Romano

Hi Sergio ! Maybe something from neko galaxy ? 🤔 Thank you so much for all your video !

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Ordering specific miniatures is a difficult thing for me to do. I know that many of you ask me according to your tastes but because of my agenda I can't always include projects. Sometimes they coincide but I can't make that kind of promises as much as I would like to!

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

All of this will be posted in different videos through the Academy. From time to time I also conduct surveys to find out which topics are the ones you want to know more about to upload them in the list (since both Vanessa and the editors are in charge of the layout of the videos and organizing the content to be published soon).

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

I would love to but because of my schedule I don't see it possible. I would love to be able to paint all the miniatures you recommend but sometimes I don't have time and I have to finish other jobs that have been waiting in my drawer for a long time!

Ben

hey Sergio, I think mortarion would be an amazing model for you to do. It’s probably the most popular 40K models, would look amazing in your style too! I think it would get a lot of views on the channel too

tiziana vignini

I'd love to find a Patreon with some sort of online course that ranges from lighting management, skin tone, hair, skin, and fur, with increasing difficulty, all the way up to NMM and OSL—basically, a continuation of the topics covered in the academy. Thank you for your kind attention.

Cog

Hey Sergio! A bit late to the party but, Thank you for what you do. I do have a suggestion for a different ‘type’ of video walkthrough. Of course we hear your thoughts and commentary in the videos you share, but for those such as myself; I think it could be beneficial to do sort of a ‘coaching’ type of video. Where for example; you could pause the video and explain your thoughts for that segment. What you were thinking, what you were trying to achieve, etc. Something to help the visual learners understand your thought process throughout the paint.

Eric Duran Romeu

Hola Sergio!

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

I really like the idea you’re proposing. I’ll take some time to think about how to create that kind of content through an interesting project. It might take me a while, but I’ll do my best to get it started and see how to bring it to life. Thanks so much!

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

It’s quite a big project , I’ll think it over, since it would take me several months of work.

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

We’re preparing videos that include all that information for the online academy we’re creating. With a bit more time, you’ll surely be able to see each aspect in detail. Thanks for helping us improve!

Marcus Hibell

I would love to see a compare and contrast between the same model in two different scales (eg 75mm and 32mm), and see what differences you would make in technique, colours, highlight placement etc...

Lex

Hello there ! I'm sure you get this all the time, but here goes. First of all thank you for sharing your knowledge. Learned a lot from you and I'm continuing to do so (: I have one request, a video based solely on brush "techniques". For example, you blend with an airbrush, and I know it's the best tool put there, as it makes life easier and faster. Yet, the same could be achieved by brush, as you say in a few videos yourself. Yes it will take more time but it is achievable. These techniques are a bit advanced for some of us I know. So a video solely on brush techniques would be brilliant. Thank you (:

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Hi! I think it’s a great idea. I’ll create videos like this for the academy we’re building. Have a look at them, each one focuses on a single topic to help all levels right from the beginning :)

Marcus Hibell

I was wondering (as I really don't know) if there are any differences in the way you would paint a face/skin for example in the different scales. Your filtering with the airbrush works great on a larger scale model, but is much harder on a small scale. Is there a different approach ? such as more glazing to achieve the same effects, or just not bother? Is light placement the same, or much more concentrated to one area the smaller model? Is the paint colour selection the same, as on a smaller scale I imagine the jumps towards the highlight would be bigger. I would just like to know your thoughts when approaching the models in the different scales. Maybe show whatever aspects you think need to be different (eg the face, nnm) and paint each part, then compare them so we can see the difference but achieving the same results.... or how the small scale technique does not work as well on the larger scale, etc..

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Okay, I understand what you’re saying. I’ll summarize it briefly first, and then go into more detail. Yes, the same painting process is used at all scales. It’s a personal method that I designed and refined over many years. The key is to work with strong contrast between layers, because later the airbrush will soften everything. If there’s no prior contrast, the result looks flat. So the real key is how much physical space the figure gives you. On a 28mm face, you might only have room for about four highlights, there’s simply no more physical space. Everything else is just smoothing. On a bust, if you only paint four highlights, the “trick” becomes obvious, so you need much more smoothing. That forces you to paint the same level of contrast as on a 28mm figure, but using maybe eight layers instead. With the airbrush, I always paint starting from the shadows, whether that’s a mid tone or a darker shadow. First come the saturated or mid colors, and finally the dark tones, leaving pure black for the very end. This is because we rely on color transparency, and the more light colors we have underneath, the better the final result. You can see many examples where I use the airbrush on 28mm Warhammer figures, or even smaller ones. Take a look at the Mangler Squig project and also the Untamed Beasts. I hope that clears up your question. In any case, I’ll keep painting and bringing more Warhammer content to the channel, since many of you keep asking for it.

Richard Ball

Shorter 15-20 minute videos are great for my schedule. I don’t watch 1-3 hour videos. I don’t have the time. Love your work and content. I struggle with detail painting on miniatures, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Giovanni Garcia

Hi Vladimir, In this video (Phobos Lieutenant, part 1) Sergio explains the water/thinner relation in detail: https://www.patreon.com/posts/92871412?collection=1422225 There are several other videos where he also talks about this topic. The more thinner you add, the more control you’ll usually have over the paint, especially with an airbrush. Thinner: Used to dilute paints. I personally use thinner only with the airbrush (I believe Sergio as well). When working with a brush, I just use water. As Sergio says, these are acrylic paints, water is all you really need. Mediums: Not really necessary in this system. Each paint already contains pigments and a medium (the liquid where the pigments are suspended). Adding extra medium is basically adding more of that liquid without increasing pigment load. This gives you less coverage and slightly more control, but it’s not essential. Varnish: A transparent protective layer applied over the paint. • Gloss: great for crystals, gems, wet effects, etc. • Satin: works well for fabrics like silk. • Matte: for non-reflective surfaces. Also useful if a surface is too glossy and you need more “tooth” for additional layers, especially when airbrushing, since very glossy surfaces can cause spidering. Washes: They’re not really part of Sergio Calvo’s painting system. They’re generally used to shade recesses and panel lines, but the system focuses more on controlled layering and glazing instead. As a tip: every one of Sergio’s videos is packed with small tricks and key theoretical concepts. I highly recommend taking notes in a notebook and consolidating them. That’s what I do, and it has helped me a lot. Hope it helps, take care!

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Yes, we try to create different formats to suit everyone. The Academy videos are great for learning specific concepts, while the miniature projects show you the process of creating that miniature. The videos are between 10 and 15 minutes long, with a few exceptions, such as special videos that we have made that are several hours long. We understand that, ultimately, it's about enjoying the content regardless of the format, but it is a limiting factor because we all have a lot to do every day!

Joona Jaakkola

I would love a long form video of you displaying all your techniques with the airbrush: pressure, proximity, paint consistency etc. You show these off in different videos but I would love for you to have a single technique video for the AB. I would also like an Academy video for basic techniques such as glazing and layering.

MIKEL LASS

I second the glazing and secondary techniques like wet blending tutorials! seria excelente!

Adrian Pfleger

Thank you very munch for your awesome content. My wish would be: Pls do always a pdf tutorial and when the miniature is finished it would very helpful to see the finished miniature from every angle. Especially the reverse side

Victor Ruiz

Adrian Pfleger

Yes, at the end of the Pdf a look of the finished miniature from every angle and not only from the front or side. that helps a lot because you can see how every angle looks and where i missed something to paint

Mik

it would be very nice to see some "how to choose a proper color" tutorial

Teofrey

If possible, I would like to expand on this idea. I would love some more insight into how you plan the project. Do you preplan your color selection, base, light etc before you even get started? If so, how to approach it without getting overwhelmed? Or do you have the main idea in your head, but you make decisions on the fly? For context - Ive been mostly painting things like warhammer armies so far, and speed and simplicity were the main focus. I find switching to the mindset of focusing on one miniature and pushing the quality on that a bit scary, and Im trying to figure out what sort of „planning work” would you recommend. Hope it makes sense :)

Gilles Dhooghe

+1. Sure there are different ways to approach a miniature, but I'm also in the "I want to have a plan before I start" part of the spectrum. Color choices, effect of surroundings on the model, etc. I feel more confident when painting when I do.

M. Nieves

Soy nueva (y novata).
