– Nanobots that block nerve signals. (Nanobots are introduced into Carla's body, where they affect her nervous system. They can trigger pain or block certain actions, forcing Mark to follow the scenario set by "Alternative.") 

– Psychological conditioning with trigger words. (Carla has a hidden psychological setup programmed to respond to certain words or situations, which her roommate—an "Alternative" agent—can use. For example, when she hears a specific word or sees a certain object, it triggers an uncontrollable urge to act as "Alternative" planned.) 

– Both methods combined. 

– No apparent control — only psychological pressure with the threat of “disappearing” forever.
