TUTORIAL FOR THIS WEEK:  Portraits - How To Draw Hair

This week we are focusing on how to sketch hair! What do you find the most challenging when sketching hair? I'd love to hear from you in the comments below. I want to practice a page full of examples and go through all the tips you need to know.

For me, it’s adding just simple but not too much detail. Also when long hair falls randomly like the last girl, I have a hard time with the bottom.

For me it’s placing the hair in relation to facial features and how to bring depth into hair in your sketchy loose way.

Outlining the shapes hasn't worked for me. I never seem to fill the inside correctly. I do better just using the dots.

I have trouble with kinky-type curly hair as in Afro styles. Also, on the other hand, I have trouble with fine short men’s styles, like crew cuts or balding men.

I have trouble with short, closely cut hair. I put too much hair on the sides and back of the head. I can’t draw a short, tidy haircut.

My main challenge is not making the head too large when adding the outlining of the hair. I have to reduce it sometimes ☺️

For me, there seems to be no happy medium between making it look realistic or loose. If it looks too realistic on a loose portrait and vice versa, it's weird-looking.
