TUTORIAL FOR THIS WEEK:  Urban Sketching - Building Elevation

This week we are sketching a building from front view, which is called an elevation. It is the best place to start for beginners because we can practice our skills in proportions and line work without the complication of perspective!

(Thank you for all the nice messages when I was sick with covid last week. I'm starting to feel much better 🤗. My beautiful wife kindly looked after me and kept our girls busy so I'm very thankful.)

Please vote below and let me know if there is anything you'd particularly like to learn.

WHAT'S COMING UP:

Week Starting 1st August: Portrait Sketching - People Wearing Hats

Week Starting 8th August: Urban Sketching - 2 Point Perspective

Week Starting 15th August: People Sketching - Action Poses

Bernie

Looking forward to this, but Scottie you have provided so much and so many options to work on that you need to make sure you get a full recovery before rushing back to work. Take care

Lorna Graham

I’ve chosen Amsterdam because my last sketch on a row of houses there did not turn out too good. 😊

Wendy Rowe

So pleased yr feeling a bit better, love the Amsterdam photo but not sure about all those windows 🫣

Eris Gillis

I think we should do them all....but not all at once! 😜

Rhonda MacDonald

I like the 5th one with the reflection of water hopefully to be included as that add a tricky but lovley component to the picture.

Xaviera Rabenjamalala

I like #5 because of the water. I always find it difficult to make it Look good and realistic.

Petra

I like them all , but I decided on # 5. Get well soon and thank you for still thinking of us and preparing sketches.

john connell

I like 1 which is good for a beginner but love to see 5 due to refection.

Emily C

Sorry to hear that you were sick. Hope you are on the road to full recovery. And thank you for always preparing such great content. Appreciate it very much!

Lilith Uhler

I chose #2 because I love the look of it the most. Can I put a bug in your ear to add a French Creole townhouse to your options once and see if anyone else is interested? I live in the old south (Mobile, Alabama USA) where these beautiful homes are very common, but they’re so intimidating to try and sketch or paint! I’d love to see how you tackle them.

Roz

Let’s hear it for all those reflections!!Yay!!

carroo

I’ve chosen #3 because I’m interested to see if the mystery of that abbey would take form in my sketch :) Hope you make a full recovery soon

Karen

#5 but would be happy to wait another week so you can get the rest you need. Besides, I’m a bit behind and need to catch up.

Michelle Lang

I'm relatively new. Do you do old buildings like country barns and historic ruins (like Cinberland Island, GA's Dungeness ruins)

Cindy Baird

#2 if poll is still open
