TUTORIAL FOR THIS FRIDAY:   Portrait Sketching - Smiling faces (Available 6th Dec)

The tutorial for this Friday is all about sketching smiling faces! It's often mentioned to me that smiles are very challenging so I thought I'd do a tutorial on the subject specifically.

What smile would you like to learn? Please vote in the poll below and let me know what you find most challenging about sketching people smiling.

WHAT'S COMING UP:

Friday 13th December: Urban Sketching - Church / Christmas Scene

Friday 20th December: People Sketching - Family group with different ages

Friday 27th December: Urban Objects - Vespa (Complex Shapes Made Simple)

They all look so happy 😃 It was between 1&3 for me and because I love sketching hair #1 got my vote. Thanks Scottie

Sarah Bradley

I like #2 best. I like the expression in the face and the shadows in the hair and face. I’d like to see how they’re interpreted in pen & watercolor.

Roz

I was leaning towards #3’s huge smile, glasses, slight facial hair, but then I read Sarah’s comment and realized she was right about the shadowing on #2. I need confidence in shadowing faces and I liked the highlights in #2’s hair as well so #2 got my vote.

JusPete

There are so many lines in @1 and shadows beneath the lips and in the hair. Eyebrows, wow I would have screwed that up if working from a picture. So much to learn from #1 (Yeah, I do like #2‘s hair though)

Bruce Jones

I have a hard time with smiles and teeth. They always look really odd, looking forward to the lesson

Carol

#2

Marie Cornelis

Génial Scottie les 1,2,3..merci beaucoup

Jennifer P

I personally voted for three because the tongue is visible and we never had one of those to draw. Maybe someone showing their tongue into the camera for the future would be nice as I am outvoted here

Mary L Doty

#1 and #3 both have a really open mouth with upper and lower teeth besides the tongue showing. I like #1 best because he has so much facial expression. Thank you for the lessons!

Simona

I choose #2, it s seems to be more simple to me, hopefully, and i'm a very beginner😅, too many teeth in #1 and #3...

Karen Ericka Newby

Gosh I think 3 will be the biggest challenge. Bald head, stubble, glasses, how to keep him from looking old.

Glenn1

I prefer 2, but the others would be interesting.

Petra

I like face Nr.1 , he looks so happy and for me it`s interesting to sketch his facial expression.

Scottie... I`m sorry, I don`t have time to sketch now your great tutorials because I make my own Christmas cards and bookmarkers for my family and friends. Baking cookies and other Christmas Events take a lot of time. I still like to see what great sketches you and the community paint.

1 for me scottie, I want to have a go at the hair. they all look hilarious I wonder if we' ll all be laughing at the end of it.

Michael Coleman

I'm thinking this choice would have been better for Halloween. Yikes.

Phil Lum

1 for me also.
