UPCOMING TUTORIAL:  Friday 15th August: Sketching A Street - Alternative Focal Point

This week we'll be going to New York! I'll be creating a tutorial about city scenes with the focus on focal points 😊. I have made a tutorial in the past about one point perspective with the vanishing point in the middle of the page but that means you would have to sketch from the centre of the road! These photos were taken from the foot path so a more realistic angle. I plan to simplify these scene so they are not so detailed and challenging for beginners!

Let me know below in the poll which reference you think would be best to sketch for this lesson 👍🏼.

WHAT'S COMING UP:

Friday 22nd August: People Sketching - Poll

Friday 29th August: Urban Sketching - Inside a room

Friday 5th September: Sketching Insects!

I’m all for 4.

Laser Cups

I like the way the road in #2 serves as a diagonal leading line but I also like the guy walking in the foreground going direction of the 1 way sign along with the taxi in the middle in #4.

Kerstin

I would like to see how to deal with the „falling“ buildings. Idk how to better explain. I guess its cause of camera that tall buildings look as if they would fall.

Barbara

Im looking forward to the insect tutorial in September!!

Jennifer

I’m voting for #4 because of the detail in the foreground.

Anna

4 please. I like the variety of things in the foreground and the people in the scene.

Mr. M

#1 for me, possibly because the detail is not overwhelming....But of course I'll try the majority choice...

Margaret Day

I’d love to know how to properly draw #3

Lorna Graham

#4 looks good. Like the yellow taxi and the people. Nearly chose #2 but I think there are too many windows ☺️

Scott

I love the look of them all, but no. 4 catches my eye due to the people in the scene and variety of things in the foreground

Tammy Lee

1 & 4 have a more NY look, as I think I see the Empire State Building in each. 2 & 3 could be any city, nothing distinctly screams NYC

dave

All look intimidating. Should be a good lesson in perspectives and simplification.

F829

I voted n. 3 because the perspective of the building looks more intimidating.

Birgit

I choose 4, the car and the people, the perspective are a challenge

Thanks everyone! Number 4 wins this time. Now on to practicing so I can work out how to simplify it 😁

Madeleine Doran

Perfect timing for my NYC trip in November! Look forward to this one

Sadie

Nr. 4 for me as the various elements are typical of NY. Although, I would love to see a tutorial (sometime) featuring those lovely brownstone townhouses with the steps. Looking forward to the September tutorial on insects too!

4 because we have layers of depth.
