UPCOMING TUTORIAL: Friday 16th January: People in urban sketching

This week I'm going to be attempting another tutorial on people sketching! I've tried a few lately with different versions of my technique. Some were larger, detailed figures where we compared shapes and some were smaller figures where I demonstrated proportion measuring. This week I'm focusing on sketching people from life so the technique is quite simple and quick. It will be an interesting challenge!

Please let me know in the poll which people you'd like to sketch and why in the comments (I've made the poll so you can vote for more than one).

WHAT'S COMING UP:

Friday 23rd January: Building tutorial

Friday 30th January: Color Theory!

Friday 6th February: City/Landscape

Cathy M Dempsey

any of them would be good, but #5 seems most challenging to me so that one

Debbie Golding

I like #1 because it looks fairly basic and I have no experience with drawing people.

Rikki Kusy

I chose 1,3 & 5 for the variety in positioning, they included facial features and I found them the most interesting

Kath McK

#5 - I need additional tips on sketching seated people

Ros B

5 will be the hardest but also really useful when sketching cafe scenes.

Dawn Libby

3, 5 & 6. You know sometimes you come across the perfect spot (let’s say a coffee house) at the perfect time of day, when the gold sunlight blankets the scene…where you see an older gentleman (content, kind & one you’d love to just sit down & ntalk to) relaxing at a table, reading the paper. I want to create more urban scenes highlights such gems. Sitting as well as someone leaving, wearing a backpack. Helps shape the narrative.

LISA

4 for all the different textures, fur, leather purse, flowy skirt & sunglasses. 5 for the beautiful cool tones & a good candid shot

Bekki

I chose #3 even though we just did one similar. I also really like #2 except for the mask on the face. I would prefer to sketch the face. Also, #1 wouldn't be too bad. But #3 is my choice.

Lorna Graham

All of them for me Scottie! I am happy with any, just love sketching people ☺️

Kay Dougherty

I picked #1 because she seemed like a good basic look to be able to draw and someone I might see when I travel - or me!

Shauna

1 for the most common scene on a street, 2&5 for the imagined stories.

Silattahoe

3, 5, and 7. 3 and 7 for the face, as I struggle when it's somewhat 3/4 turned. 7 also for his belly. 5 for the hands. Thank you.

Maike

2 please

Jacob Greenburg

#3: Need to learn how to sketch people who are sitting.

Andy

Number 3 please.
